Xbox series X will be released very soon on this year.
But something that still hanging on my mind was about Fully Backward Compatible on Xbox series X.
What was that really mean?
Was that mean Xbox series X will be compatible with ALL previous Xbox games by disc, including Dance Dance Revolution and Kinect games from Xbox 360 because they said Fully BC ?
Because if NOT, I can consider Xbox 360 E model instead.
@NEStalgia Like I said, I'll be playing at 1080P/30 probably at most anyways so all that isn't the issue at all. It looks good, fun to play definitely wouldn't call it great by any means though. Point I'm making is in marketing/sales the expectations you place in your customers mind beforehand make a huge difference in their perception of your product. By them yelling from the mountaintops for a year + saying "we have the most powerful console ever" then showing off their flagship game, from their most important franchise, that's been in development for years, and has hundreds of millions behind it for it to look not that much better than a current gen game or even a remaster is on them and I can understand the (reasonable) disappointment. It's like a car company saying "we've made the most powerful production engine ever" then showing a video of them riding around town picking up groceries and running errands at 40 mph max lol.
If you think it looks great that's cool, sincerely hope you enjoy it and I hope I do as well
@Anti-Matter No one cares about the Dance Dance games but you lol, they're not going to take the time to make those BC not to mention the licensing headache involved with the music. Kinect isn't compatible with the Series X without an adapter I believe. You should probably just go with the 360 E.
Searching "Xbox Series X pre order" on google comes up with "PRE-ORDER NOW" for the xbox.com Series X page. Between the cancelling of Xbox 20/20, the Series S "worst kept secret" situation and this I'd guess preorders are starting very soon like in a few days for example.
@Anti-Matter Current situation is no Kinect games and no games that aren't currently playable on XB1. For the stuff you want, Xbox 360 would be the best option currently but you may want to wait incase anything changes.
@Anti-Matter Kinect is a legacy accessory. The required inputs won't exist, so no Kinect game can be supported.
Also, x1 bc still has to have a new patch to work, and games with licences (music, cars, movies, tv shows, toys, etc.) Can't legally have that done. We do not know for sure though if that's true on XSeX. It probably is but we don't know for sure yet. But Kinect games absolutely can't be bc because the hardware required is not supported anymore. Just like the reason Forza games like Horizon 3 get delisted (or Golden eye for nintendo vc), they paid for time limited distribution of the 3rd party content (actual car designs, movie characters and brand, and in DDR's case, music. Once the contract expires they can never sell it again.
@redd214 It's just a shame the audience doesn't understand that they're seeing. "Looking next gen" isn't just about gfx. 4k60 takes tremendous power under the hood. Double the pixels of x1xs best. That "is" next gen graphics. But it doesn't showcase like a 30hz game using that extra power for effects.
Heck, in the pc realm people are laughing at 60hz. 144hz+ is all the rage. Granted 4k 144hz screens cost mad money... Most are 1440p VA panels. And it surely takes dialing the effects down. Halo was next gen already, definitely.
@DarthNocturnal yeah, it would almost need real ppc hardware for native non ported bc. And that's not happening... Sony learned that the hard way with ps3 "now it's bc, now it's not!"
Ok so I started replaying the Halo games. I only ever played Halo 1&2 back in the day, so I'm redoing the whole lot with the MCC before Infinite comes out.
Man I forgot how fun Halo 1 is. Really well made game. The only thing that really stands out as being a sign of its age, is how simple and limited the environments are. It's like really noticeable that they could only use like 5 or 6 different textures at any given time.
@Dezzy I'm actually currently playing through the series too. Should have 3 done be the weekend. I can definitely see why folks liked them back in the day, fun games for sure!
@Dezzy not sure honestly, didn't grow up with a Xbox so Halo Fandom is largely a blind spot for me.
@Justifier yeah that "ending" was just bad. I literally played thru the last level 3 times thinking it had glitched or something before reading online and realizing lol!
Lol so it's basically got worse over time. Although you need to take into account that there's a big novelty factor for the first major title in a series. It's the same thing you see with Mario 64.
Turns out the reason Infinite got delayed was to release the game as a full package rather than releasing it in pieces. So probably would've been like Halo 5 where stuff like key multiplayer features aren't present at launch.
When did reach become well loved? It was an internet rage machine when it launched. I still have my launch edition in shrink wrap!
1 can't be replaced it duplicated. The gameplay is clearly dated with repetitive hallways, but what it was when it came out was nothing short of amazing. Even if it's not the best game.
2 was terrible. Anything focusing on the flood is terrible. Bungee thought we loved the flood for some reason even though it ruined the unique tactical gameplay. 3 was amazing. Reach, at the time, was panned. That was bungies exit.
I've always adored odst, honestly. Probably my most remembered Halo. It's the black sheep of the Halo family, but the tone, pace, mood, design was just great and contrasted with MCs shield based melee speed beautifully. It's underrated severely.
@NEStalgia
I agree with Flood. Main reason why I liked 4 and 5 was that there were no Flood in sight. @DarthNocturnal
I remember the rage about Arbiter back in the day. And I kind of agree, I thought that they were weaker levels on Halo 2.
My own personal favourite is Reach. At the moment Reach and 4 is only ones I have completed legendary playing solo.
Turns out the reason Infinite got delayed was to release the game as a full package rather than releasing it in pieces.
I dunno if I buy that. They've had like over 5 years to get this ready for the new console launch, which they've known the launch date for quite a while.
Seems far more likely they're just worried about the response to the mediocre graphics, given that it's pretty much the main selling point of the new console, but don't wanna admit it's for something as dumb as that.
@DarthNocturnal 1 was amazing, but the funny thing with 1 is it was only the beginning that was amazing. It peaked at Silent Cartographer that remains one of the highlights in all of gaming history, even today. However right after that it all kid of fell apart. 343 Guilty Spark was a fun and suspenseful moment....and then you hit The Library and the entire game grinds to a halt. Some people love that area, some don't, but it broke everything that made Halo Halo and turned it into a Doom clone which is exactly what Halo was giving a finger to at the start. And then after that the entire game is just playing the whole game in reverse, but replacing the interesting, tactical enemies with Flood and zombies. So it's like the game ends at 343GS, and then you just get the Doom mod for the rest of the game. The lengthy copy paste rooms like in the Convenant ship, prior to that (and again later!!) show their age though.
2....it was a game about Flood...'nuff said. The rest of Bungie's work was great though.
@Dezzy At this point someone has to admit 343 is a terrible studio that has no idea what they're doing with Bungie's classic. 4 and 5 were kind of messes entirely, especially 5. They did great work with MCC, but that was just tweaking Bungie's work, not remaking their own, and I suspect the whole project wasn't about selling classic Halo but was about "Ok guys, we need to figure out WTF makes Halo actually popular.....let's just remake everything Bungie did until we "get it"" Infinite looks like they finally "get it" well enough to just copy/past Bungie games and add on in ways that make it better, which is cool (still better than Destiny...) but in 5 years they were still planning a piecemeal release of a game. If it takes them any longer to make a piecemeal game they should just be sold to Square-Enix where they belong.
Makes me wonder how much of Xbox's decline this generation was simply down to the fact that they gave their 2 biggest franchises to completely new developers. Ok so 343 technically took over during the previous gen, but they already had huge momentum at that point, and Halo 4 reviewed fairly well.
Seems like a bad idea to do with 2 franchises around a similar time. Halo 5 and Gears 4 are generally regarded as the worst in their respective series.
