Since I'm out of pillow pills to restore energy I'm forced to wait two days to recharge enough energy to 2x triple pull from the Sword Trial for my defensive gear. Since I can't farm Flawless Defense pieces via the Campaign challenge, this is what I'm stuck with. So, in between waiting for energy to recharge I'm tackling 100% exploration. I've spent the past 20 hours just doing encounters, cat play, chess, oddities, chest collecting, madiao cards, old friends, etc...and I'm only two-thirds through Qinghe.
Ugh, the whole AI chat is my least favorite part of the game. But if I want 100% it must be done.

So I made up my mind to go after the Formless Disguise golden aura drip over the weekend. I expected to spend $500-$550. Turns out I came away spending less than that. I spent $220 (2x $100 plus tax) for the 90 I was away from the first pity. Working towards the second pity, 100 rolls away, I pulled the second core. Pretty damn lucky.
Roughly $340 spent (I have 6700+ echo beads remaining) on the drip I wanted. I'm $415 into the game. I've got four more accessory slots to fill, but nothing else jumps out at me from the Draw store (dragons...meh). I think I'm content. Zero interest in reforging weapons. My bargain-bin $10 weapon skins are good enough.

Update 1.2 drops either tomorrow or Friday, not sure which. The last chapter of the Kaifeng campaign. The Nameless General world boss (finally everyone one trophy away from the platinum trophy will platinum the game) will be unlocked. And the Jianghu Martial Games Event will begin.
With the current Battle Pass coming to an end, I assume a new BP will go live with the update. With the current Draw shop banner coming to an end as well, I'm eager to see what the next premium currency drip will be. If it's the Huli Jing-running-circles-behind-my-back drip, my wallet might be in trouble.
Yeesh, I may have gotten lucky with the Formless Disguise, but my 71 gold gear grind has been the extreme opposite. I've spent roughly 1,000 energy since the solo world 10 unlock and I haven't obtained a single gold set piece worth using in my build yet. I can't wait for those chests that require Gear Echo: Fieryheart to be added to the Season shop, because this is ridiculous.
Edit: P.S. - the WWM website uploaded highlights for this month's update.
My hopes have been answered. For every 360 energy you spend doing campaign challenges or sword trials, you'll get enough Gear Echo: Fieryheart to guarantee 1 chest that targets the precise gear piece you desire. Regardless of set or slot. You also have the opportunity to change a piece of gear to whatever set you'd like, although that's limited to 8 times per season.
So, in theory, you should have at least a complete set of gold gear for your offensive and defensive slots inside a couple weeks. They might not be all RCMD tuned because rng still exists in the game. And you'll still have to craft your bow and ring separately. But at least you'll be whole, build wise.
In addition to that. Energy regen has been quickened from 1 point per 9 minutes to 1 point per 8 minutes. And the energy cap has been increased from 500 to 550. Much of the gear grind has been alleviated.
250+ hours in. Just mopping up exploration (sentient beings). Qinghe is done, just wandering tales (side quests) remain. Now I'm a quarter of the way through Kaifeng exploration.
Some other miscellaneous changes with the 1.2 update. Perception Forrest has been added to the Sect dailies, which if done will auto-complete all the other sect dailies. Never mind the fact that Perception Forrest rewards its own currency and drip options. I'm glad that the number of guild event PvP has been reduced from 20 matches to 10 matches.
It makes me happy that the Thundercry Blade can now triple jump. It's...the little things.
I'm $425 dollars into the game after purchasing the $10 battle pass again. The perceived value on the premium bp is good. Five guaranteed draw pulls if you finish the bp in time ($2.23 per draw pull). Plus 30 attempts at drawing additional Lingering Melodies via Battle Pass boxes from bp level 50 through 80. Although I think the chance of that happening is less than 1%.
Unfortunately I think I've made a mistake in the guild. We've grown industries beyond the funds guild events bring in. If you're a solo guild or a small guild with a few friends, leveling Red Gold Boutique is the only worthwhile endeavor. All the other industries are a waste of daily maintenance costs.
I hate being forced into pressing the reset button after two months of effort. But there are no avenues to downgrade industries, and so now we're just watching the car crash in slow motion. Inevitable. I understand that...for the developers daily maintenance costs are an efficient way to clear inactive guilds, but it sucks.
No, I'm not going to invite a bunch of randoms to the guild.
It's a temporary fix that doesn't correct the underlying issue.
300+ hours. Finished up Kaifeng Dark Surge. Over halfway through Kaifeng Sentient Beings. Once I'm done with that I'll be going back to Qinghe to continue work on Wandering Tales.

The recent update also snuck in a preview of the incoming Stonesplit - Strength martial path and its weapons, Phalanxblade and Snowparting Blade. Which looks to be a dps/tank hybrid path. Although...I wonder if Phalanxblade + Thundercry Blade as a pure parry setup would be something worth exploring?
I would need a closer look at the Phalanxblade inner way.

For as much as I'm enjoying Perception Forest, the scoring system mystifies me. It seems that just scoring points via collecting Sin Leaf coins, whether that's through scattered pickups or killing npcs, is capped at 80%? As in, it doesn't matter how many SL coins you pick up or npcs you kill. You either need to kill two players in one session of Perception Forest, or play the mode twice to unlock the reward of auto-completing your daily errands for the sect.
I prefer to play PF non-confrontational. I'll casually walk to extraction, collecting pickups and killing npcs along the way, rather than play to the last person. And every time, whether I play to 20-30 players remaining or play into the top 10. Two non-confrontational sessions feel mandatory.
That said, I appreciate those times when someone attacks me while I'm attempting to extract. I teach them the folly of their ways. So many fools shot in the back with an arrow as they attempt to run away after realizing their mistake, lol. Although some pure PvP'ers put it on me from time to time. I am a filthy casual after all.
Folks are mildly perturbed that the new zone, Hexi, won't be released until March. I am not one of those people. Even though I'm 330 hours in, I only have roughly 25% of the side quests done. So having February be a month of "two new bosses and mostly community events" is fine by me. I'm ready for a new battle pass.
More time to stack Lingering Melodies and/or Harmonic Cores for that Solitary Fox gacha banner drip.
As I'm 240 pulls from 2x Harmonic Cores, this drip would cost me roughly $540 if it were released later this week, not including tax.
Yesterday's update is spicier than I expected. Smithing your arsenal up to level 39 is now slightly time gated by a weekly season shop resource. Solo world 12 unlock is live, which increases the character level to 85 and gear to 81. More nodes in the talent tree have unlocked. Mystic skill cap has been increased to 5.
Never mind the fact that there are 15+ Lingering Melodies to earn during this month's events.
Suddenly there's a whole bunch of distractions between now and the next update in March.
Edit: Crunched the numbers for the Feather Grace gacha banner.
Quite the weekend. 73 from pity, pulled a Harmonic Core. Still have yet to get a majority of the Lingering Melodies from the event as well. With every passing week the waiting becomes more difficult than the price. Between the drip, the battle passes, and the monthly funds I'm $440 into the game.
The event has been fun. Learning how to play mahjong. The fashion frame. The mini oddities and mini treasure hunt.
Edit: P.S. - Looking more into the Dragon drip in my previous post, it appears to be an event gacha much like Snowfall (the dragon accessory) was. Because if it takes 4,500 of the event currency, it'll likely take 3x pity draws at 120 draw per pity (I assume). 360 pulls at most. 360 x 160 echo beads = 57,600 eb.
Thank goodness I'm getting $2k back on my taxes. I think I need to begin stacking $100 in beads every month for the next few months in anticipation of both of these gacha banners. Speaking of gacha banners, according to the patch notes, our next gacha drip is Mirrored Heart. All that silver and blue; not my bag. Money saved, an easy skip for me.
Well, I was excited to bank a couple Harmonic Cores to put towards the Solitary Fox gacha...
...until I found out that you cannot equip its accessory and the Formless Disguise aura accessory at the same time?
Money saved...I guess. I dunno. I'm deeply disappointed I would be unable to equip the thing I potentially spent several hundred dollars on. Shoutout to YTuber Keis3 for saving me a whole bunch of money. Incompatibility shown at 5:49.
