I'll also give a shout-out to Ara Fell. I saw a list my phone sent me of the best JRPGs not made in Japan, and they named it number one, so I thought I'd give it a shot (it's on the Switch eShop). It harkens back to SNES RPGs, and it was pretty easy (although there are harder difficulties than what I played on). The story and characters were great, though, with a really twist ending. Well worth it.
Currently still playing Yokai Watch 3 Tempura 3DS.
I have accumulated more than 165 hours gameplay, keep grinding my team level at least until level 90 to defeat an optional boss which there were tough level 90 rank D / C Yokai before reach the optional boss place.
From a story perspective, Nier Automata.
From a gameplay perspective, MH4U (if you're lenient with your definition of RPG).
As an overall package, Xenoblade Chronicles: DE.

I'm still playing Yokai Watch 3 Tempura 3DS.
Have accumulated 166+ hours gameplay and I thought the game was way more fun to play than Pokemon 3DS games in my opinion.

Well, Pokémon 3DS games are okay. At least you get to plant, and grow more berries, and ride on Pokémon.
@LinkxPeach
The thing i like from Yokai Watch is there are more anthromorphic Yokai (or humanoid Yokai) than animal looking Yokai and I prefer anthromorphic / humanoid creatures as my team.
