Yeah. Lord Deimos' basic attack because he had a massive friggen sword that outranged everything.

And Al Rashid's Tornado attack.

Someone else remembers that game! YES!

Lol I remember that game as well in fact the other day when I went to my local retro store I was half tempted to pick it up. It was only 5 bucks.

Haha, that's how I ended up with my copy a few years ago.

You want a true hardcore challenge? Do well with that flail-and-shield dude. Most useless fighting game character ever? I think so.

I played it years ago on the the N64 and a few times at the local movie theater. Damit I just might have to go tomorrow and pick it up lol. I use to play the Viking guy all the time.

My siblings hate when I use the fan in SSB. Whatever. If they're dumb enough to get close enough to me when I have it and can use it effectively against them, they deserve what's coming to them.

Exactly.

In SSB when people just keep spamming Meta Knight's tornado attack

My little bro LOVES to use that thing in battles and gets upset when I take it off. I tell him it's cheap but he won't listen.

On the other hand I welcome it when both my sister and my brother are against me with it on. One of them fans me while the other uses a strong move like Kirby's Hammer. The challenge is a nice change from the level 9 CPUs.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution 2. Not well-known. Cheapest move: dissapearing and immediately appearing behind your enemy and slashing with your sword, the moment he gets up you can repeat, and repeat...and repeat...

I guess I'll be one of those guys and say that I don't think any move or combo in a game is cheap. It's all about knowing how to counter the tactic or move, and finding a way around it. I guess it's just me, but I hate dismissing things as "cheap..."

I understand using cheap moves is sometimes called "spamming". Can someone tell me the story behind it getting that name?

DrDaisy

Mabbit

No, spamming is repeatedly using the same moves over and over. Chun Li's lighting legs move in MvC3 is a good example of a spam move.
Or Pikachu's down B move, although spamming isn't really as annoying in Brawl then it is in other games.

Sonic boom is also pretty annoying, I must admit... and Magento's staircase combo

Calling something "Cheap" in a fighting game is just a pathetic excuse for being unskilled, but.
Those who rely on cheap tactics to win are even more pathetic.

They only won because their opponent was weak, if they challenge someone greater, they are know to rage quit when beated.

I dunno if it's really cheap, but in Melty Blood Act Cadenza, I forget his name, but I was able to knock a guy in the air near the start of the round then kept him up there with all his attacks (especially the tornado and the upwards giant claw thing) and emptied his life meter before he hit the ground.

In BlazBlue Calamity Trigger, just to see if I could do it, I spammed Noel's drive attack until I emptied my opponent's life meter. It didn't seem like my opponent could get out of it, so I'd call that pretty cheap.

I dunno if I'm just terrible at it or what, but I find that there are only a few characters with ranged/projectile attacks in Dead or Alive: Dimensions, and as such I find it nearly impossible to beat someone if I get knocked away from them or I knock them away because they can then stand up and shoot lightning and other stuff at me... drives me insane... I don't know what to do.

Characters like Genra make it so hard, because I need to do stupid kicks and stuff to try get close fast enough...

@nonblo601: Using holds dodges those moves, but you have to time it right. I usually just keep blocking and inch closer and closer until I'm close enough for a dash kick.

As for my answer: I hate Nightmare from Soul Calibur's near-unlimited combos. Either that or any of the giants in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Cheapest thing I've executed? Spamming Ryu's Torn Sky Blast in DoA: Dimensions. Takes care of most of the Tag Challenges rather easily.

I'm pretty sure I think I'm funnier than I really am.

Well, whatever "spamming" is, what's the etymology behind it in this case?

It comes from the term "spam", as in email (or other) spam, e.g. lots of unsolicited messages/adverts received via email over and over again. In other words, a continuous repetition of something ... thus here applied to the concept of hitting the same button or combo over and over again.

The ety of the term "spam" being used in connection with email spam and the like is not 100% clear, with some indication that it was coined by earlier BBS/Usenet users as a reference the the famous Mony Python "Spam" sketch (where the word is repeated many many times) and referred to multiple repeat postings. However, the acronym "SPAM" also referred to "Sales Promotion and Marketing", which was used by bulk mail advertisers (those companies that send out junk mail) to describe their services.
