Nintendo Direct had a video clip of the 3DS version of Giants. It's looking good, although the theme of these levels seems to be the same so hopefully it's one of the worlds and the rest change things up. From this clip it's looking pretty good although I'll miss Radience.
I have the PS3 version of Spyro's Adventure and am looking foward to the 3DS and Wii U versions of Giants. I still have not purchased the 3DS version of Spyro's Adventure. I don't think I will purchase Giants at launch because of everything else that is launching this year. I am only missing around 8 Skylanders in my figure collection.
Yeah, I'm pretty curious to see how it turns out. I really hope it's longer than the first game because the 3DS version was so short!

I would advise you sell your figures unless you don't mind this: the new series two figures will have extra upgrades, unfortunately. Once they're out, I garuntee the old ones will be worth less than nothing. Unless you want to wait for a collectors' price rise, which would be very risky, especially if you open them.
But anyway, this is not a rant thread , so I'll compile a list of known Giants characters-
-Tree Rex, Life Giant, big living ent with shooting gauntlet. (Confirmed)
-Bouncer, Tech Giant, large one-wheeled robot that shoots lasers and projectiles. (Confirmed)
-Crusher, Earth Giant, large golem with hammer. (Confirmed)
-Unnamed Water Giant that looks like a whale. (E3 trailer to the right)
-Unnamed Fire Giant with canonlike arms. (Leaked poster from E3)
-Unnamed wasp-like Air Giant. (E3 trailer near the middle)
-Pop Fizz, Magic Skylander that can change forms and powers. (Confirmed)
-Jet Vac, Air Skylander that can fly and shoot with vacuums. (Confirmed)
-Shroomboom, Life Skylander. Powers are unknown but it comes in both regular and LightCore poses (Confirmed)
-Unnamed albino Earth Skylander (? You can see it in the E3 trailer but hardly any of it)
-Unnamed Water Skylander with weaponry (E3 trailer, leaked poster from E3)
-Unnamed Fire dog Skylander (leaked poster from E3)
-Unnamed red Tech Skylander (E3 trailer again- same as the albino earth one. People thought this was a Red Pop Fizz but it clearly has a tech base at the bottom so I'll leave it at that until further is known)
-Unnamed Undead Skylander on a skeletal bird (E3 trailer, art can be seen on some merchandise)
-Possible Legendary Ignitor. Can be seen right on the left edge of E3 trailer.
-Possible Legendary Slam Bam. Same as Legendary Ignitor but on the right edge instead.
This is what Heroes of Ruin should've been like, bar the toy changing.

I agree it's fun to play with friends, but I have no one good to play with... I find the 3DS version blows all the others out of the water, though I'm pretty biased to platformers so yeah...
I wonder how much it would cost you to buy all of the Skylanders stuff.

My current count is somewhere around $1500, but I live in Australia, where singles are $15, and also I'm a collector, so it's not a fair comparison at all.
How about we share out collections? I'll start: I have one opened of everything regular and an opened Pearl Hex(But missing Volcanic Vault). A sealed set missing only a sealed PC version of the game, four single packs, the Legendary Triple Pack, and all the variants except for metallic Cynder, Pearl Hex, and Chrome Spyro, and opened copies of the PC, Wii and 3DS games. Mincellanious merchandise: Two of the giant store posters, two of the lunchboxes, two of the K-Zone magazines with the watch and poster, the most recent Power A case, the Tower Case, a cardboard poster of the logo, and some boxes of Paddle Pop with the Skylanders promo on them. Also extras of Zap, Stealth Elf, Ignitor, Gill Grunt, Trigger Happy, and Spyro and one each extra packs of the Camo/Ignitor/Warnado Triple and Warnado Single(just 'cause). Not collecting ANYTHING from Giants though. I only collected for this because it's, technically, a game starring Spyro.
I really want the Sidekicks when they come out but I can't get them myself. Would anybody, if they get extras, be willing to help me out and set up a private eBay auction for them, for a reasonable price? Someone put the set up now for $500 but there's no way I'm paying that in my wildest dreams... I just want to ensure I'm getting the batch...
Did you get all the Crystals though? I find it's good to Level Up on 3DS then Upgrade on console. Don't get all the hate to the 3DS version- it only becomes boring if you level up elsewhere, which you aren't meant to do with it. Sorry, I kinda sound like I'm instructing you.
You should try to get the Crystals. It's insane fun, especially on the really hard ones. Like Avoiding The Slicers in Coldburn. If you finish the first four Hektore also chases you around the whole level so you can try to set time records and compete in that
One thing that makes me mad about Giants is that there are two packs in which you can buy the game. The normal starter pack for people who do not own the portal from the first game ( The portal works with both games) and the portal owners pack which does not include the portal for owners of the original Skylanders game. But heres the thing, the starter pack comes with the Tree Rex, Jet Vac and Series 2 Cynder figures. Yet the portal owners pack only comes with Tree Rex. It's like Activision is making you buy the portal version just so they can squeeze that extra $15 out of you for the other two figures. In my Skylanders collection( Have all except the ones I am going to mention, including the for legendaries). currently I am only missing Voodood, Prism Break, Wham Shell, Ignitor, Sunburn, Camo, Stealth Elf and Dark Spyro. I am not going to sell my figures just because I like them and I have tons of progress on them with upgrades and heroic challenges. I also have the flocked stump smash and volcanic vault. I don't have any of the Toy Fair, E3, gold, silver, ice or glow in the dark variants. Looking at the picture from the E3 trailer Nibelilt posted here are the following Series 2 ( reposes) I found. Some of them are lightcore figures which are figures that light up when placed on or near the portal. They do not require batteries as the portal supposedly recharges them.
Trigger Happy has a giant machine gun. ( Behind Pop Fizz)
Double Trouble has a different wand ( Behind the Portal Tree Rex is on)
Sonic Boom has her babies surrounding her and her wings are spread (Behind Jet Vac)
A Drobot looking crature to the right of the screen ( Right of the Portal Tree Rex is on)
A Drobot far in the in the background with lasers coming from his eyes
Drill Seargent has his drills and his body facing upward ( Far in the background)
Eruptor has his arms upward and his mouth is open ( Confirmed to light up in his mouth) ( Behind the pirate ship)
Prism Breaks body and arms are upward ( Crystals will light up) ( On the left portal)
Chop Chop with a larger blade held over his head ( Left of the portal Prism Break is on)
Hex is floating holding a skull upward ( Behind Spyro and next to the air giant)
Whirlwind is facing upward and has a golden horn ( Possible LightCore?) ( Next to the new undead Skylander riding the skeleton bird).
Zook was also confirmed for a repose with him leaning next to his cannon while holding a missile and Cynder with two claws in front of her pushing herself up.
100% agree on the doubles on Cynder and Tree Rex. Tree Rex will be beyond good and evil and Cynder will be fairly worthless- the series one version is even pretty common now. Yet even if you buy the Pop Fizz and Jet Vac Packs separately it'll be the same price! D: The most absurd thing is that the reposes are going to be doubled up with LightCores AND they get extra abilities! But alas... I must cut back on this blasphemy! In any case, I was hoping for the Console Pack to get Tree Rex, Jet Vac, and LightCore Prism Break, and the 3DS Pack to get whatever the Undead Giant will be, Pop Fizz, and Cynder Remodel... Then one, there would have been no double-ups on Elements from the previous starter packs of respective versions, two, there would have been a coverage of all eight Elements across them, and three, if you bought both versions, but nothing else previously, you would only need two more figures. Oh well
While I'm in a whiny mood, I'll just go ahead and admit I wish they had postponed Skylanders for the next gen systems, get an epic game going, and decide to add DLC to download data for new figures. I'm still buying Giants anyway because it looks like a HUGE improvement over the original with harder modes having been so high on the wish list.
The Drobot at the back is actually not going to be a repose and it's just the unofficial articulation by Jin Saotome. Confirmed it himself in an interview.
New Air Giant is named Swarm, confirmed by Nintendo Power July. @Sony_70 - Don't you have that issue? I'm going to watch you now!
Actually, looking at the picture again, the red "Tech Skylander" behind Terrafin is looking more and more like a Red Pop Fizz to me... Just that they angled the base really strangely.
I personally think it is a bad idea that both the console and 3DS versions both have Tree Rex and Cynder in them. While the console versions third cahracter is Jet Vac and the 3DS versions third character is Pop Fizz. I think it should have been three different characters like last time. Maybe for the 3DS version they will have a Dark Cynder like they did with Dark Spyro. I wonder if there will be store exclusives like last time ( Target has Whirlwind until Wave 3, Walmart/Sams had Drill Sergeant until Wave 3 and Best Buy has the Volcanic Vault area item). I really wonder more about a Volcanic Vault like exclusive where it comes pack in with the game at a specific store. It's also worth noting that there three developers for multiple versions of the game.
Toys for Bob/Xpec: Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 versions ( Dungeon crawler like the first console game) ( Developed the first Skylanders game)
N-Space: 3DS version ( Platformer like the previous game) ( Developed Heroes of Ruin)
The Wii U versions developer is unconfirmed. It could be exactly the same as the other console versions by the same developers. Rumors are circling that Vicarious Visions ( The developers of the 3DS version of Spyro's Adventure) could be developing it. Or it could be someone else.
Also Nibelilt could it be that the red Skylander you are wondering about could be the red fire skylander?
They also confirmed that all toys from the first game will work with Giants. Normal figures are still able to level up to the new cap of 15 and still have all of their upgrades, level, stats and gold, but won't include the new Wow Pow Powers. The Adventure Pack items will still work, the item location pieces ( Pirate ship, Crypt, the peak and the giant igloo fortress) will still unlock new levels but it is unconfirmed if they will unlock the same levels or new ones. Assist pieces ( Anvil Rain and others) will still serve the same purpose. I think it is also safe to say that the location pieces and the volcanic vault will still unlock the additional battle arenas. I think they also said that heroic challenges are being replaced with something else that still has the same basic idead of beating a goal and earning better stats.
Gill Grunt could shoot water from his cannon, it would be a lightcore figure
Probably most characters with visual changes to weapons ( Like how Double Troubles staff changes from a wooden one with a orb on top of it to a more axe like weapon) will most likely feature their upgraded weapons.
I would say it could be a new Fire Skylander, but the base doesn't match, and it doesn't look like either of the revealed Fire Skylanders- a flaming puppy and an arm-canon yeti.
The water Skylander is also on the right- next to Pop Fizz. These all match since in the previous image, and other media, you can't find the Fire Skylanders, and the Water Skylander... Has a water base.
So would I be best getting the Wii version or the 3DS version of the first game? Are they both worth getting because I was leaning toward the more platformy portable version.
Both are good enough. Just depends on your preferred genre. I would say, the 3DS version is better, just because it's more challenging and way more fun, but it seriously lacks content unless you plan to level up all the characters on it, and get at least the Adventure Packs with it. However, I never liked dungeon crawlers much which is probably the biggest reason the Wii version disappointed me so badly. The Wii version probably provides a few extra hours, because there are challenges you unlock with each character you can undertake with every single one. Although it's Godawfully Easy. If I may provide an alternative, however, just wait for Giants since it comes with difficulty levels, new characters available, and all the old toys work on it too so if you don't mind missing out on one extra power, you can get all the Series One figures from a bargain bin by then.
If you get both, it's a good idea to level up on the 3DS, then upgrade on the console. That's what I do and I get a LOT more out of every figure. I go through each level with each figure on 3DS, which takes 3-4 hours, then grind on Lair of Kaos on Wii, which takes a measly 30-45 minutes(but I finish all the Heorics with everyone, which takes 0.5-1 hour so it's not so bad). If you don't have any friends to play the Wii version with though jump straight onto 3DS- the Wii version has literally no other extra content from PVP and Co Op- there are about two puzzles that are tricky in the whole game and the rest of the stuff is more dependent on swimming across lava with a Fire character or breaking some isolated rocks with an Earth character. More ploddy than difficult.
