Against my better judgment, I spent $500 on a 4K TV last week. So naturally I was even more irresponsible with my money and spent another $369 on a ps4 pro. Has anyone here bought one? And if so, how much better does it look on your 4k tv, if you have one?
I don't have a 4K television because I would rather wait until OLED technology is more mainstream and problem free before going out to buy a new one. My Sony LED is still one of the best 1080p panels on the market despite being over three and a half years old.
Apart from a dozen of PlayStation 4 Pro enabled games, Planet Earth II and a few TV shows on Amazon Prime (The Grand Tour) and Netflix (House of Cards), 4K content is still pretty sparse at present.
I'm happy with a super-sampled picture from 4K or the use of the checkerboard method that a select few games use. Everything looks pin sharp, and is often beneficial to the (higher) frame rate too.
Enjoy your new toy!
p.s. The best demonstration game is Ratchet & Clank. It looks like a Pixar film in videogame form.
Turns out, we may not have to wait that long for TLOU2. Apparently Naughty Dog has had two separate teams since the release of TLOU and development of the second game started soon after the first one. According to an industry insider, the announcement may even happen before E3 2017. Not sure how I feel about that. Excited and disappointed at the same time.
@CanisWolfred The Rayman guy, Ancel, with the then-newly formed Wild Sheep Studio. Apparently he's working at Ubisoft concurrently on Beyond Good and Evil 2.
@Haru17 WiLD.. That's definitely something I need to see more of. Visually it didn't impress me, and it didn't look too interesting from a gameplay perspective either. Like an big sandbox world, and that's all.
@Grumblevolcano True, but then again, most of the October and November games flopped pretty hard this year, so maybe it was a good choice after all?
Wow, Titanfall 2 is amazing! Best FPS campaign I've ever played. And I play a lot of games.
Playing on Xbox One but even on that console it looks gorgeous. TV is upscaling to 4K but, I can just imagine how good it'd look on the Pro.
Highly recommend, and I'm not even really a FPS kinda guy.

@JaxonH I've heard a lot of good things about Titanfall 2, and you're another one telling it's good. Too bad that I'm not really interested in the multiplayer, but I would buy it for its single player campaign. It's a bit on the short side, so I'll wait for a good discount (maybe even this weekend). Seeing how the game flopped pretty hard, I don't expect that to take too long..
@Octane We haven't seen anything specific from WiLD that's exceptional, but I think the setting and concept have promise. I was a little let down by the second trailer, which reveals the core player character to be a human. Still, a game in which you can inhabit many different creatures — bears, birds, fish, skeletons — ride atop each other, and then compound this all with an entire second scale of giant versions of all those creatures, seems supersupersuper cool to me.
There's been weird rumblings, like the unknown quantity (literally quantity) of a story and online multiplayer, but I'm really diggin' it. Some people like sci-fi, some people like historical fiction set in the later half of the twentieth century, some utterly dull people like the modern day — I like fantasy wilderness settings. At the end of the day, a building's just another ugly building to add to the list. If you add enough to a fantasy ecosystem, make it unique and interesting enough, it's more beautiful than anything you can come across in our daily lives.
@Haru17 Don't forget that weird snake-lady-giant! The game needs context though, fantasy is cool, but it works when the world adheres to a certain laws that are set in this fantasy world and the context that explain them. That's the part I'm missing in WiLD, it's all a little too weird and random to me. Plus the fact that there doesn't seem to be a goal, other than become an animal and screw with the local cannibals. To me it looked more like a proof of concept than an actual game. Maybe a lot has changed, maybe, but I need to see more. I'm not convinced yet.
@Octane It's weird, because the 2014 interviews talked about directionless nature of the game, yet the next hint we get of WiLD is a capital-S Sidequest to go fetch an antidote from the aforementioned snake lady to save a poisoned tribe member.
I'm just happy to see a Far Cry Primal — which this game predates, by the way — that's not just using the setting as a reskin of another genre, but rather weaving it into the systems in different ways.
@Octane
I grabbed it for $26 I think, $27 maybe? It's been on sale again yesterday for $30 at Best Buy.

@JaxonH That's a fair price, but I'm afraid that's for US only. I've seen it for around €45-50 here, but I can wait. Got plenty of games left to play in the meantime.
