@Ralizah I didn't even know there was a demo available for Virginia!

Quite rare to see demos nowadays, but props to the developers for allowing folks to try before they buy (or not). I suppose you and I had different views of Virginia, and that's fine. Everybody is different after all!

It's funny to see how reviews no longer affect my decision to buy which and which game though, as I used to grow up reading the N64 magazine and the official PlayStation 2 magazine, and they really were very evenly balanced reviews that was in the interest of everybody's (different) mindset.

I think the OPS2M only dished out just five 10/10's (Okami, God of War II, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Shadow of the Colossus); they were comparable to Edge in this respect.

On the other hand, the official PlayStation 3 magazine brought in a new American editor for a UK publication (why?!) and if I remember correctly, I think they gave out three 10/10's in the first year or two alone!

I think that's where I stopped using reviews as gospel, and prefer to read all kinds of impressions.

Even from you guys! I believe it was Octane who sold me on The Witness earlier in the year, which ended up being one of my favourites games of this year, even if it did hurt my brain sometimes...

Haru and Ralizah were talking about Gravity Rush a while back - I no sooner popped out for a summers day stroll to buy the remastered game, which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Another chap on here was raving on and on about DOOM, and I had a blast with that too, despite not liking FPS games. Plenty of folks can influence my buying habits if their enthusiasm is openly on show.

TL;DR - Virginia is not for everybody, and reviews shouldn't be used as gospel nowadays.

@Peek-a-boo Yeah, the only reviews I really trust nowadays are Easy Allies'. And even then I can feel it when they praise a game that I'll hate.

The funny thing about demos is, we have more available to us than ever before if you count betas (or alpha tests, if you're being fancy). The difference is, beta tests require a consistent internet connection and take place during a highly-managed timeframes. So, Nioh had an alpha and a beta, but Gravity Rush 2 also had a beta, not a demo. (I'm not sure what it was called in Japan, but the western media has reported it as a "demo.") So it's a sticky wicket.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

I don't see anything wrong with that post...

EDIT: I mean, I misspelled vitriol, and captalized a word that didn't need it, but my phone would've corrected those...and messed up everything else, since auto-correct (which my phone doesn't have an option to turn off) is ****ing useless, and tying on a small touch screen is almost impossible, but hey...

OMGosh.

Tearaway Unfolded is one of the most beautiful looking games I have ever played.

60fps without a single hitch, no jaggies to be seen and offers an extremely clean IQ with an abundance of colours that makes your eyes widen with glee.

A shame then that it can be a little bit dull to play at times.

The creative side of things feel somewhat stale as the quest goes on, and the British hokey-jokey quirkiness becomes a bit overdone... and that's coming from a hokey-jokey British person like myself!

I found myself looking up to see just how much longer I have to go (to finish the story) and I am glad to know that I was nearing the end of the tenth 'bookmark' out of twelve.

As long as you follow the story and ignore the side quests, which often involves finding an object then carrying him/her/it back to the person in question, then there is fun to be had.

The pig riding and paper plane levels are two of the best and 'funniest' sequences of gameplay I have experienced since something out of Super Mario Galaxy.

@Peek-a-boo Glad to see you like it. It's definitely an underrated game. And I do completely agree with you. The gameplay can be a bit dull at times, but it's still a good game though.

Octane

Peek-a-boo

@Octane I thought I had finished the game last night after reaching the 'prototype' (the DualShock controller) however, I was dropped into a new world that's entitled 'Between the Pages' or something like that.

That's now two false endings...

I was looking forward to beginning Dear Esther today, but alas.

According to the bookmarks, I have another six levels that awaits me. I hope they mix it up a bit!

Peek-a-boo

Octane

@Peek-a-boo Yup, there are three chapters, the last one a bit shorter from what I remember.

Octane

Peek-a-boo

@Octane I am just asking, but did you go trying to collect all the confetti in this game?

I searched high and low in the first two or three bookmarks, and was still missing some. I no sooner decided to cease collecting everything seeing as it kills the pace of the game, which is already a little bit uneven as it is.

I played Journey (again!) this morning after feeling like chilling out before going to work this afternoon. It is still in my personal top ten games of all time.

The whole thing is second only to Rez as the greatest audiovisual experience you can have.

Octane

@Peek-a-boo Nope, I tried, but once I finished the first three levels, I realised that I already missed plenty. I went through the rest of the chapter and the second and third without trying to 100% the game. Just collecting stuff here and there. I may go back sometieme to it to collect everything, maybe next year!

Why do they still say "greatness awaits?" Aren't we eighth gen yet?

Octane

Because The Last Guardian isn't out yet.

lolololol. If that game can give me 5 hours as quality as Inside did, I'll be surprised. Shadow of the Colossus controls doe...

Ralizah

SotC is one of my all-time favorite games, and I like Ico a lot, but I'm really worried about how this will turn out. Games rarely come back strong after being in development for as long as TLG has.

Greatness Awaits seems like an appropriate slogan, though. After all, Gravity Rush 2 and Persona 5 aren't even out yet.

October's PS+ games were revealed. REmake and Transformers Devastation! Absolutely solid month. Resident Evil is perfect for Halloween.

I have to admit, the PS+ offerings have been pretty solid since the price hike.

Holy Christmas Batman!

I was genuinely going to buy Resident Evil (remake) in the lead up to Halloween, and I have always been curious to play Transformers Devastation.

This is the best month since Rocket League last summer.

Thinking back through the year, I have played and completed Grim Fandango in January, Helldivers in February, Gone Home in June, Furi in July and re-replayed Journey yesterday that was part of PS+ in September.

For £3.50/$5.00 a month, or a price of a pint, I really don't feel the need to grumble at all.
