@Haru17 I mean how they're talking about the final choice, discovering Kat's origins and finally visiting the world above. Combine that with the lack of marketing and the unfortunate low sales. One and one makes two. IF we get another entry, it'll probably be with new characters, or a completely new story; however, I think that's unlikely too.
@Octane Yeah, I think they'll put that team on something else. I won't mind as long as they end well. The gravity shifting does deserve to be explored in another game, though. What I thought the first game under-delivered on was using the gravity to land on floating platforms (like in the opening), standing sideways and upside down, and generally gravity platforming between and around large, moving objects.
Doing that properly is how you beat Super Mario Galaxy at its own game.
The Beginning Hour demo has been updated and so far, outside of the attic upstairs and finding some handgun bullets, there is nothing 'new' as such and we are no closer to finding a way to escape the house.
New footage of Horizon (via Pushsquare). Looks great. You can buy gear, get quests, interact with NPCs, etc.
As to Gravity Rush 2: yeah, I fully expect them to try and end things here. Just as well, though. I'd rather it go out with a bang with one spectacular-looking sequel. Not every series needs to have a dozen entries.
As to Resi VII... does that game even have zombies, or are we just going to be running from mutated hillbillies the entire game?
@Ralizah I think that (brilliant!) video of Horizon will be the last one I see. I would quite like to go the next four or five months media-free, as I feel we are seeing a strong foundation of the game coming together now.
I would have no qualms if Gravity Rush 2 ends on a high, especially considering we shall likely be finding out the origins of Kat as well as seeing and visiting 'the world from above' too.
Resident Evil VII has humans, mutated humans (or zombies as we know them to be) and monsters according to an interview in the Famitsu magazine a little while ago.
@Ralizah It's a lot more reminiscent of The Witcher 3 than Uncharted 4 from what I've seen. I wouldn't call it an RPG, but it has definitely some of the elements of an open world RPG.
Digimon World: Next Order is confirmed to get a release in the west. World of Final Fantasy gets an English trailer with cheesy voice acting (Japanese VA comes as DLC, not even kidding, but it's only available for the special edtions). Berserk gets an English trailer and Ni-Oh too.
@Octane The term "RPG" has become kind of fuzzy over the years, but yeah, I'm glad they didn't Naughty Dog this game. It looks like you're free to interact with people, take quests, buy and sell items and equipment, collect loot, etc.
So, with regard to WOFF, if the Japanese voice acting is a SE exclusive, then does that mean people who play it on Vita won't have access to the original Japanese voice acting at all? That seems really foolish.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
Good news for Gravity Rush 2; South Park: The Fractured but Whole got delayed to 2017. I know what you're thinking; ''Another game pushed back into 2017!?'' Don't worry, it's not the only game; Berserk also got delayed to 2017. I've seen a lot of delays, but this year surely tops them all. There's barely anything left for the holiday season, and Q1 is absolutely jam-packed with great titles.
It's only a matter of time until the likes of The Last Guardian and FFXV follow as well
@Ralizah I believe it only comes with the special editions of the game; they can only be ordered from Square's own store. It kinda reiterates the fact that SE might be one of the worst publishers ever.
01) Bloodborne (for me, this is the best game of this generation)
02) Life is Strange
03) Rocket League
04) SOMA
05) Until Dawn
06) Tales from the Boardlands (The Wolf Among Us is also worth playing)
07) Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
08) Ratchet & Clank
09) Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
10) ABZÛ
And that's not including any of the remasters like God of War III, Gravity Rush, Heavy Rain, Journey (and flOw and Flower), The Last of Us, Tearaway Unfolded and the Uncharted Collection.
Tearaway Unfolded, a papercraft platformer/adventure game. Gravity Rush, we've been gushing over this game for quite a while in this thread. Its sequel is coming soon too. Maybe Ratchet & Clank? Haven't played it myself yet, but I've heard it's pretty good. You should also definitely try Uncharted. There's an HD collection of the first three games on PS4 for a good price, Uncharted 4 is also an absolute masterpiece (just keep in mind that the original is almost 10 years old at this point, and it's the weakest entry in the franchise; the second, third and fourth game are absolutely brilliant though). And I said try, cause they're not your typical Nintendo games, but they're Sony's flagship titles, and it's not without a reason that they get rated so high. And this is coming from a guy who grew up almost solely on Nintendo games. While you're at it; get The Last of Us for PS4 too. Naughty Dog's best game, and my favourite of the last decade. And if you're not afraid of trying something different, try games like The Witcher 3, Infamous Second Son or Bloodborne.
Then there's indie stuff like Journey if you haven't played it yet. ABZÛ, Fez, Firewatch, Grow Home & Grow Up, Hyper Light Drifter and The Witness.
Just watch a couple of trailers and see what appeals to you the most; and get those games first.
Ratchet and Clank - Gorgeous, very fun action platformer. Seems like it might be an easy transition title.
Gravity Rush: Remastered - Open-world superhero action game with a cel-shaded aesthetic that seems like a cross between anime and French comic books. Your character Kat has the ability to shift the flow of gravity: she can fly through the air, stand on the sides of buildings, deliver flying kicks from high in the air, make objects levitate, etc. Like Nintendo games, this one is all about the joy of the gameplay.
Tearaway: Unfolded - You play as a paper person who lives in a world made entirely of paper. Extremely creative platformer that revolves around manipulating the papery physics of the world around you.
All of these above games are very family-friendly as well. No graphic violence or anything here.
If you want to get your feet wet with a more Sony-ish experience, I'd recommend buying Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. The violence isn't anything worse than you'd see in a traditional action blockbuster, and these games feel like a cross between Indiana Jones and a 90s action thriller. Very focused on delivering high-octane thrills. This collection is pretty cheap these days, and includes three full-length games.
If you want something that's more horror-ish, I'd recommend Alien: Isolation. Ever seen the classic Alien films? This is a lot like that. You're trying to survive as you're being stalked by an intelligent alien that will kill you if you're too slow or not cautious enough. Terrifying, but very engaging.
...do you want suggestions or not? Because I highly doubt you'd spend over $300 USD if you didn't have some clue of what you wanted, but we can't exactly read your mind, and no, "Nintendo games" is not actually descriptive.
@CanisWolfred
I genuinely do want suggestions. I was given it by a mate and know that I'll get FIFA, the Skyrim remaster and Tomb Raider.
Was curious about Bioshock as well but past that, I'm at a loss, so yes, suggestions welcome and appreciated.
Many thanks to @Ralizah@Octane@Peek-a-boo for the helpful feedback
And what I mean by Nintendo games is charming, well made playable games, the kind I've grown up on.
Skyrim will probably be my favorite game on PS4 once it comes out. The Last of Us, too, is a must play if you're the type that reads the books in Skyrim.
But in terms of new gen, Life is Strange is really excellent if you're down for a story. There's a couple of scenes I doubt I'll ever forget. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided fills a similar "scour environments for health potions and arrows" slot as Skyrim. The story is actually one of the boldest in gaming in subject matter (similar to Life is Strange).
As far as indie games go, my favorites have been Inside and Crypt of the Necrodancer. Very different games, Inside is a 3-hour 2.5D puzzle-platformer and is just... excellent. Don't spoil yourself, just go in for the experience. Crypt of the Necrodancer, however, is a rhythm-based rogue-like. It's basically a good version of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon with a beat. And the music is great! In fact, all of these games have great music (and Inside has great sound design).
@G0dlike Yeah, as many have said, the download games will be well up your alley. I'd second Hyper Light Drifter (Playing that recently, it's one of the truest Zelda-likes I've seen in a while, yet still feels fresh), as well as Crypt of the Necrodancer (I still need that on my Vita, but I've played it on the PC). I also quite enjoyed Fez, though don't expect much of a challenge (or story, for that matter).
Adding to that:
Stories: Path of Destinies - An action-RPG with branching paths, where repetition and trial & error are a genuine story mechanic. The narrator in this game is the best thing ever
(Crap, I'll come up with more later, I gotta eat soon)
I'm at a lose for other retail games to mention besides Gravity Rush, Ratchet & Clank, and Tearaway, but I guess those are enough. GR is one of my favorite games since it came out on the Vita in 2013 (as cheesy as it sounds, it'll turn your world upside-down), R&C is the franchise that converted me from a Nintendo-only fan (though it's gotten more than a little repetitive by now. Not exactly "stale", but I've played 7 games through to the end, 5 of them multiple times through, and I still have 4 others to finish, but they all generally follow the same formula, so I think it's safe to say I'm a little burnt out by now); Meanwhile, Tearaway is the closest thing to a genuine Nintendo game you'll find on a Sony platform. It's not exactly the best thing ever, but it's fun, creative, and endlessly endearing. Personally, I couldn't have asked for more.
An unassuming preview with an excellent headline, when suddenly, "Oh, and you can also now decorate your sewer-pipe bedroom Animal Crossing-style, and give Kat various costumes."
