Can anyone explain to me why they think From Software, a studio which has released two consecutive games in two consecutive years, plus DLC, will have anything to announce right now?
@Haru17 They're a relatively big company. They usually develop more than one game a year; 2 or 3 is the average. We only got Dark Souls this year and we don't know anything about their upcoming project(s) for 2017. It's not a stretch to think that they're working on at least one or two project currently.
@Octane More than one game a year? Do you mean how they can release both Dark Souls and Monster Hunter: Aipairou Whatever Chibi Filler Village in the same year? Because if so I wouldn't expect much from TGS. They obviously have two teams, as Dark Souls 2 and the release schedule for 3 and Bloodborne prove. However, if they both just released a game, they're going to need to take time to, you know, make another one. Especially if they don't want to announce it way far out ahead of launch. We're talking about 2018 games here.
Ugh.. I would've thought that its release date would've been set in stone by now. But no, here's another delay. Calling it now; God of War will be a 2018 release and Days Gone will get a 2059 release.
@Peek-a-boo Still not sure what to think of TLG and GR2 set two weeks apart from each other. I think that there's definitely overlap between the potential customers and that this decision will only hurt their sales performance more. Also, TLG missing Black Friday is kinda a big deal. I understand the reason for delay, but you'd think that the game would've been finished after 10 years..
@Octane I am more concerned that Final Fantasy XV and South Park: The Fractured but Whole (still laughing at this!) will vastly overshadow both games.
I think The Last Guardian will be okay and gradually plod along, as ICO and Shadow of the Colossus both sold over a million copies each.
It's Gravity Rush 2 that I am worried about; if it fails to reach half a million in a couple of months, we won't be seeing let alone playing a third game. I just hope the story has a (proper) conclusion this time.
@Peek-a-boo Indeed, their release dates are just a bit unfortunate. It's a shame though. SIE Japan Studio is fine if TLG flops, because as long as that game get's the same response as SOTC, then I think they'll allow Ueda to continue with this ''franchise'' if he really wants to. I expect this will be the last Gravity Rush though. Maybe the anime will do the game's sales good, but I doubt it'll get anywhere near a million.
Dragon Quest Builders, World of Final Fantasy and Nioh, to name but a few.
There's a lot of games available on the PSVR if you are interested; 100ft Robot Golf, Battlezone (this had the most favourable impressions as a VR experience at trade shows), Driveclub VR, Rez Infinite, RIGS and Until Dawn: Rush of Blood seems to be the 'big' games.
Outside of those? You'll be waiting until December like the rest of us!
At this point I'd prefer it if I got a £50 documentary on the development of The Last Guardian rather than the actual game. That'd be more interesting I feel. I think there's every chance a lot of people will be disappointed with this game when they get it and see that it's just yet another deep 'emotional' game of emotions padded out by pushing blocks and activating switches to get a giant bird creature to move to places. With the many emotions that only these sorts of games can provide.
It's incredible to me how this studio, a long, long time ago but still, managed to create of one the best games ever- Shadow of the Colossus. And no ICO is not one of the best games ever, nothing I've ever seen makes me think it's anything other than a deep 'emotional' game filled with emotions padded out by pushing blocks and activating switches to get a vulnerable ghost girl to move to places. Now where have I heard that description before? Hmm...
As much as I am very cynical towards team ICO's ability, I am still going to get the game to judge for myself if the final product was worth it. If they kill off that big bird thing near the end or even have a fake-out death scene á la Aggro in SoTC then that'll be the final straw for me.
But I'm imagining that not only will that be in the game for 100% guaranteed, but it'll be praised far and wide. Because we all know how original and totally not worn out death scenes of vulnerable partner characters are amirite?
I mean execution aside its no better than the terrible F.L.U.D.D scene in Super Mario Sunshine. If this game tries to pull that after several years of anticipation I don't know where we'd go from there.
@Shinion Yeah, it would be great if the plot wouldn't involve the death of bird-dog or a faked death. I hope Ueda came up with a clever plot twist in the 10 years he has been working on this game.
