I'm shocked they're doing something with Metal Gear this close to the Kojima scandal and 5. They just don't care. They just do not care what people think, which is a hilariously dumb marketing decision. For Konami, this will just be a self-fulfilling prophecy that "console games are untenable." Metal Gear and Silent Hills will die and Sony will have to license the trademark to the former.
@Haru17@IceClimbers I would be happy to see Sony allow one of their own developers take the reins for Silent Hills however, Metal Gear Solid can fade away now. The first, third and fifth (and final) Metal Gear games are as good as they can be, story notwithstanding mind.
I would love Sony forever if they got everybody (sans Konami) back together to do a Silent Hill-esque horror game.
If there's one thing I miss, it's the reign of genuinely scary medium-to-big-budget Japanese horror games. Western indie developers have done an amazing job reviving the horror genre to some extent, but I miss the days of good Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame, etc. games.
Not totally sold on RE7 yet, but the fact that they're trying to make it scary is encouraging, even if I'd prefer a more traditional RE-style game (like REmake). Hopefully REmake 2 delivers on this front.
@Peek-a-boo No wonder this page took ages to load! Try to limit posts to around 5 images, especially in combination with GIFs; or maybe post links instead? They look good though.
@Octane - Any chance you could change them to links right now? Loading this page took almost as long as my morning pee. That's not a good sign. I don't want to deal with that every time I come to this thread until we get to the next page...
@thread I don't mind images, GIFs and youtube vids, but during events like Gamescom when we get a load of new footage and screenshots, it's best to limit the actual images and post the rest as links instead. Unfortunately we can't all post several images and GIFs per post, that would turn this thread into molasses. It keeps the mobile users happy as well.
@CanisWolfred Fixed it, the page should load faster now.
Well, I felt like dying a little inside today, so I went to pushsquare for the first time in ages to look at their articles. Mission was a success, but not for the reasons I expected-
@Octane I must admit that I went slightly overboard (with my post). Apologies all around!
I do like the share button on the PlayStation 4 controller, and No Man's Sky has been a popular one for me to press that button quite frequently.
How are you getting on with Hyper Light Drifter?
I finished North then West then the (easy) East, and have maxed out all the available upgrades so far. Got sixteen keys and all eight modules in each of the three areas too.
Onwards to South, which is surprisingly straightforward so far. Those pop-up turrets are already getting on my nerves though! I am having fun, but I am also ready to put this one to bed soon.
@Peek-a-boo I finished the game yesterday actually; upgraded all my abilities, found all triangles, monoliths and keys. I don't have all the costumes yet, but I don't never used them, so I think I'm calling it a day. Currently playing Grow Up and there's plenty of other games coming soon to look forward to.
The south is actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I still think thay the west boss was the most difficult part of the game. I even managed to beat the final boss in one try. But yeah, those turrets are pretty annoying, especially during those big horde fights.
@Octane It was yesterday, on a rainy day, that I decided to make some big progress... only for you to go on and complete the game!
I have no idea why, but that big jumping frog caused me more problems than the other two bosses. It was those little annoying exploding plants that kept me from safely healing myself.
I liked the boss in the North, the one with all those electric waves; it was a strategic battle compared to the other two, and I enjoy those kind of fights.
Would you say that South takes just as long as the other three to get through?
I thought that whilst the East was relatively easy, it took by far the longest to get around. I spent ages trying to find a way to the boss door, which involved an awful lot of unnecessary backtracking.
@Peek-a-boo I see, well I assumed that the bosses were behind the 3-triangle doors and that certaibly helped me traverse the east section, and I managed to use the map as much as possible, despite its limited use.
South is a bit different, have you found a triangle piece already? Most of it takes place underground, so I'd say that it is much shorter. More like a final trial than anything else. Finding your way around above ground is pretty simple, it's just a big vast plain essentially.
The ending seemed to be quite downbeat given that the Drifter went through all that effort to find a cure for his 'illness', when there wasn't even one in the first place, and he just kind of clutched his chest and died during the blue sky and sunshine closing scene.
I am not one for achievements or trophies, but I only got four! One for the football game, one for tricking an enemy to jump to its doom, while the others were for defeating all of the bosses and finding all those module pieces.
I think I will try and see where a couple of those twelve and sixteen keys door lead to, as I wasn't able to enter them when I spotted them for the first time. Maybe have a go at the challenge room (in the town) too.
Other than that, I think I am done. It's a fantastic game! One of my gaming highlights of this already great year.
@Peek-a-boo Yeah, the ending made more sense after I read up on some of the interpretations of the lore; it's still kinda like Firewatch; a very down-to-earth and sad ending. There's a special scene availabe too, it's next to your save file; but I'm still not sure if that hides any secrets.
What did you get for beating the football game? More gear bits or a costume?
@Octane Ooh, I shall have to have a look at the thing next to my save file tomorrow.
As for the finicky football game, you claim a single gearbit for your troubles.
I have got four or five outfits so far; think there is ten in all. I like the orange one best, as your bomb(s) recharge in 30 seconds as opposed to a minute and a bit.
@Peek-a-boo Just one gearbit? I'm glad I didn't bother then, there's plenty of gearbits to be found, more than you need and I already upgraded everything.
I think there's 12 outfits, I currently have 8. Didn't know they did different things, it was never specified, so I never tried any of the other. I thought they were just cosmetic..
