I'm not sure I can believe this thing is real (hey, just keeping expectations in check, nothing wrong with that) yet. There's really nothing the internet cannot produce at this point. Unless proven otherwise I'm going to lean towards "very elaborate fake."
So hey, does anybody recommend a hard drive I could use for the PS4? I just did the math, and the install total for about...1/3rd to 1/2 of my games would eat up the standard hard drive all on their own, nevermind DLC, updates, and downloadable games...I've been have storage problems already, so I think I'm going to need to upgrade by the summer. And no, I don't have any spare 2.5in laptop hard drives lying around. Just in case one of you somewhere was insane enough to sugest such a thing, I'll get that out of the way early. A 2 TB would be enough to sort out my currant storage problems, but I'd probably run out again before too long. I'd be fine if the installs didn't take all day to do, then I could just uninstall the ones I'm not playing, but the very much do take all day. Especially if there's also updates to install.
...So, does anybody know of and/or recommend a 4TB Hard Drive I could use for the PS4, because Google's being a B**** as usual, and the only info I could find was that 4TB hard drives are compatible. But everywhere I look, people keep telling me I have to physically modify the PS4 in order to do so. A lot of them were talking about 3.5 in desktop hard drives, though, since some people are just idiots who like write fancy articles, apparently, and Google really likes them.
@CanisWolfred The PS4 does not support external hard drives at all, that's why the top results were about modding PS4. The way you upgrade your PS4 is by selling your current one and buying a new one with a larger hard drive.
I knew I forgot a word. I meant "internal hard drive". I know it doesn't support an external. If it did, my problem would be over by now. I have externals up the wazzoo. I even have a 2 TB external hooked up to my PC right now - that's more filespace than the internal! I have yet to fill it up.
But I can't say the same for the PS4. What was Sony thinking letting everybody install so much to the hard drives? They're blu-ray discs! 10 of those could fill up the standard HDD the PS4 shipped with! And quite a few of them install the whole shibbang! DOOM requires 48 GB! That's outrageous!
@Haru17 The leaks suggest Neo releasing same day as PSVR.
Now that's a reason to not believe them. Sony launching 3 different Playstation-branded systems this Fall after not having announced them prior just seems like BS to me.
Jesus, there are going to be so many game machine models floating around the market soon. 3DS. 3DS XL. New 3DS. New 3DS XL. Xbone. Xbone S. Scorpio. PS4. PS4 Slim. PS4 Neo.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
My slim console is slimmer than yours therefore I feel vindicated and love my favourite videogame company and your choice is wrong and BAD because it isn't as slim!
I remember when they had the 'Arcade' Xbox 360 (the non-hard drive model, or better known as the 'pointless model'), the 20GB white 'Premium' Xbox 360 and the 120GB black 'Elite' Xbox 360 all sitting on one shelf in Toys 'R' Us, while there was just the one PlayStation 3 and Wii model to choose from.
It confuses the parents and it confused me too, even though I feel like I am fairly acknowledgeable about these kind of things!
PS4 slim, now with more LEDs.. I believe the LED already drained the battery pretty quickly, but fear not, now there's also one blinking directly at you!
@Octane Someone on the iFixit team did a thorough battery test for the DualShock 4 shortly after launch, and you might be surprised to know that the lightbar draws very, very little wattage!
Once you take the pad apart, the LED light is very small and is a long-lasting one too, similar to those energy efficient bulbs we have in our own homes nowadays.
Sony just cheapened out on the battery, just like Nintendo did with their battery (in the GamePad).
@Peek-a-boo I believe that about half the power is drawn by the LED; turning it off results in double the battery life or even more in some reported cases. But I believe those tests were done on idle DS4 controllers. I still think that an option to turn them off should be included; especially in a dark room, it can be way too bright even with the LED turned all the way down. And yeah, an improved battery overall wouldn't hurt either. It's acceptable, but it can be pretty annoying.
@Octane I know that you can swap the battery from a DualShock 3 into a DualShock 4, which is said to deliver a shy over three times longer battery life; approximately 20+ hours, and that's an improvement on the 7+ hours I can sustain with mine.
Somebody has roughly figured out that the new slim PlayStation 4 is almost a 30% reduction in overall volume to the original PlayStation 4. Sony are wizards in shrinking their hardware!
