@Peek-a-boo: Idk I'd rather Wii U end on a high note in 2016 then limp through 2017, which it will do anyway. Did people get this mad when DS came out 3 years after GBA?(Ironically 360 and DS are the most successful Xbox and Nintendo systems.)
On topic, anyone excited for Sony's E3 conference?
Well, if Nintendo didn't have a new platform to think about, they could have developed some more (new) games in 2016 and 2017 respectively before moving on. I get what you are saying about the Wii U ending on a high note rather than a whimper (like the Wii did before).
Also, the GBA came out in March 2001 and the DS was first released in March 2006.
That's exactly five years between the two, and that was perfectly fine with me!
Onto a new subject, yes, I am.
I'm always excited to see what all three companies have to show at E3. The only downside to this years show is that it will never live up to the 'E3 of dreams' last year, with the Final Fantasy VII remake, The Last Guardian (re-reveal) and Shenmue III. That was like the Holy Trinity!
@WebHead: My mistake! I got confused between the original DS (launched in December 2004) and the excellent DS Lite, the latter of which kickstarted the whole incredible success story for the Nintendo DS.
I think we'll see Crash Banicoot in some shape or form. Hopefully not on a t-shirt though...
@Peek-a-boo: though I think it's clear Sony's E3 conference is going to be mostly about PSVR games and known upcoming Sony published titles like the last Guardian and dreams. Sony kinda emptied their clip last year through E3, TGS, PGS, and PSX
@WebHead: More 2017 games. Last year they showed a lot of games coming in 2016; I think we're going to see some completely new games that won't be out until next year.
The latest rumours regarding this 'PS4K' is that it shall be using AMDs' 14nm CPU, GPU and APU that will be available for mass production very late this year, or possibly the beginning of next year even.
There's also another noteworthy snippet - the current PlayStation 4 and the 'PS4K' may well coexist with each other, and would be priced accordingly to imply the gulf between the two ($249 and $399, for example).
I believe that there is a market for both models, just as long as they do not fragment the games by making them a 'PS4K' exclusive. I would not feel like I am missing out (too much) if Sony decides to go down this route.
@Peek-a-boo: If it's an upgrade without exclusives, I don't see the problem. However, I do wonder how much 4K support adds. Are there even games that are able to render 4K natively on the PS4? I don't think so.
@Octane: I think flOw and Flower would be the kind of games that would be a great 4K showcase.
The 'PS4K' is more about 4K content in terms of Ultra HD Blu-ray, 4K steaming (Netflix and PlayStation Vue, for example) and live sporting television events such as the Olympics and the World Cup.
4K games would be few and far between, and more of a 'performance enchantment' over the original PlayStation 4 such as increased frame rate and resolution as well as other extra visual bits and bobs.
@Peek-a-boo: Yeah, I think that's what's going to happen if it's true. Perhaps Journey as well, although that might be pushing it. AAA 4K gaming isn't going to happen anything soon. Let's aim for 1080p whilst maintaining a solid framerate first.
Are Sony making a PS4K so we can run it on our 4k TVs, or are they making the PS4K to sell us 4K TV's?
A little bit of both, I guess!
Anyways, here's how Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is shaping up:
The visuals are out of this world however, it is the animations that impress me the most; the dust particles, their clothes and the way the material reacts, the gun strap (that freely moves about), their hair and the dynamicism of the environment.
Naughty Dog are by far and away the best in the business at this!
Hmm, starting to think "PS4K" will be a new PS4 with 4k media support, a better wifi chip that supports AC/% Ghz, and maybe the PSVR breakout box built into it.
@Octane: Oh my gosh nier! That game looks fantastic!

@Peek-a-boo: I just finished Uncharted 3 yesterday and that game looked amazing in some parts; but Uncharted 4 looks so much better than everything I've ever seen. It's almost like watching a movie.
@NinjaWaddleDee: Yeah, it does! Don't know much about the game yet, but it's Platinum Games, so it's going to be good regardless.
@Octane: Yeah, thats the whole reason I have faith in Star Fox Zero, Platinum games usually know what they're doing.
