Thanks a lot for the information. 😀
I was gonna make another joke about Sony 3rd person cinematic action game, but its getting old. Instead, I look at gaming in 2021 and I think, wow people sure don't want to make new games in franchises that haven't had new games in a while, huh?
It's not even like simple remasters, its like all these resources from all these companies are really going into remakes. And sometimes I look at them and wonder...why not do a simpler port and use those resources to actually make a new game? I guess everyone saw the money Crash and FFVII got and want some of that.
And this isn't just a Sony thing. I'm thrilled Advance Wars is back, but announcing a remake basically confirms a new Advance Wars is still a ways off, if we even get one. Even taking into consideration the pandemic, we're only getting a new 2D Metroid four years after the same people made a remake (even if that wasn't a 1 to 1 remake). I'm not against remakes but with how long these games take sometimes, it feels like kind of a shame in a way.
I'm not saying its bad necessarily, but its sometimes pretty disappointing to me.
@RR529 Mostly messing with him. I'd imagine a couple of those games are around T ratings, but there's a ton of M rated games with tons of gore littered through the presentation.

@kkslider5552000 I think that Remakes are good for trying to gauge interest in a series. Like, in the case of Advanced Wars, there hasn't been a proper one in years, and so they probably want to gauge interest by making a remake of the original, instead of making a brand new one.
However, remaking an older game that they already remade once is redundant, like with the uncharted thing.

I get that, but I don't think it makes much sense when you're making a big budget remake. If you wanted to gauge interest, you'd think you would find a cheaper way to do so. I assume a lot of these remakes are done specifically because they think it will have a bigger audience than a new game (which based on Crash, is sometimes true).
Missing out on Spider-Man 2, Wolverine, & God of War Ragnarok is going to hurt since I opted for getting a gaming laptop instead of a next gen console (well, I still have a PS4 so I can still get GOW if it runs well enough there at least), but I can begrudgingly live without them.
Otherwise Project Eve looks really cool & I'll keep my eye on KoTOR remake.

Sony getting access to potentially a universe of interconnected Marvel games with the Spider-Man series and now Wolverine from Insomniac is going to be really big for pushing PS5s. KOTOR was also a massive get but Insomniac are basically this decade's Rocksteady in terms of being the go-to developer for games based on comic book IPs

Marvel and superhero stuff is getting overdone. Not as much as the movies (which were exciting at first, but after the 47th marvel film in 10 years, it just became rote), but still, the superhero games are piling up pretty fast now. Between Spiderman, Avengers, Miles Moralis, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spiderman 2, Marvel Midnight Sun, Wolverine, all released or announced within a year of each other… it’s a lot. We’ve come a long ways from just Batman.
Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing. While movies have overstayed their welcome, I think there’s a lot of life left in exploring superhero games that could still be done. I would just like to see the genres mixed up a bit, rather than see them all follow similar blueprints. I’m not sure how much they can really deviate (nobody wants to see an X-Men platformer) but still. Marvel Midnight Suns is a perfect example of branching out.

KOTOR is, according to Jim Ryan, a “timed console exclusive at launch”. Which means PC day and date, and Xbox later. Aspyr is handling the port, which means Switch could be in the cards also at some point IF it’s not too demanding (which, it may be, in which case Steam Deck has us covered).
It’s sad that BioWare has nothing left to contribute besides back catalog at this point, but I’ll certainly take it. Mass Effect, KOTOR, Dragon Age. Those are the big 3. And we now have two of them checked off. I’m just waiting for the inevitable Dragon Age Collection.
@RR529
No system gives you everything. No matter what you choose, you’re always going to ponder whether the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. It’s the nature of how we humans operate. Yes, you’re going to miss out on some quality games. At the same time, you would have missed out on all of Xbox’s exclusive library had you gone the other way. You can never have it all in one platform. But PC comes the closest. Not only do you have access to every single Xbox exclusive this generation (and many from last), you’re going to get a ton of PS exclusives as well. You’ll have to wait a few years, but it seems pretty clear Sony wants all their big games on PC like Xbox. You might not get everything, but if you even get 50%, when you combine that with 100% from Xbox, that’s the best deal on the market.
And, it’s not like you can’t pick up an OG model system on discount a few years from now. Holiday 2024, I bet you can grab a PS5 for $300.
@JaxonH I get the feeling that it'll probably be a bit too demanding for switch, given how it's mostly for current gen systems in mind. Good thing it's coming to pc though, given the steam deck.

@kkslider5552000 The lack of backwards compatibility is what leads to this focus. Xbox shows this as in 2015 the backwards compatibility program for XB1 was introduced and if you look at Xbox Game Studios the only ports/remasters/remakes that have happened after 2015 were:
Games that had never appeared on Xbox (e.g. Quake)
Games that had never appeared on PC (e.g. Halo Wars)
Switch ports (e.g. Ori)
I'm thankful that there's a major effort to bring old games to modern platforms but I hope that future console generations takes backwards compatibility like if Switch 2 played Switch games.
@JaxonH I'm tempted to agree, and I'm certainly one of the people who got burned out on superhero films after like the 5th MCU film (you've seen one you've seen them all IMO). I agree that comic book IP is being used so frequently these days that just the existence of a comic book game is nothing to get excited about.
But there are two additional factors here IMO:
(i) Video games open up these franchises to a lot more diversity than film IMO. Not only can you have differences in storytelling between different heroes, but you can have vastly different gameplay. I imagine Wolverine will play quite differently from Spider-Man.
(ii) Insomniac are an excellent studio. I fully trust them to make a great game after their last few releases.
@JaxonH Wouldn't "timed CONSOLE exclusive" mean it's just PS5 and PC though? If it was coming to Xbox I think they would've said "timed exclusive" outright like the wording they've used on stuff like Final Fantasy XVI and Deathloop

Console exclusive means it's coming to PC day and date (confirmed by Lucasfilm). Timed console exclusive then builds on that and says that console exclusivity has a time limit.

Probably. Most heavy 8th and 9th gen games will likely be ported to the Switch successor. Which is fine- it gives us something to look forward to next gen- just like all the best 7th gen games coming to Switch now.
Good thing they're making a Steam Deck though. Valve with the clutch rescue. Gives us a way to maintain our hybrid lifestyle for heavier games until Switch 2 hits the scene.
@Buizel
No doubt it'll be a quality game. I don't think I've ever seen anything from Insomniac that's not a good game. How much it can differentiate itself from all the other realistic 3rd person open world superhero games though is yet to be determined. With adamantium claws, I imagine climbing could be baked into the gameplay as a core mechanic, since there's no webs to swing on or bat claws to grapple with.

Honestly I know I'm in the minority but Insomniac doing Marvel stuff is practically dream come true material for me. They'll probably continue Ratchet & Clank as well alongside it but their Spider-Man games have been next level for me as a long time comics reader

@JaxonH Was honestly not expecting that. I know MLB is a thing but Sony publishing even a second party game like this on Xbox is kind of unprecedented for them, especially if they're still insistent on keeping the Marvel stuff exclusive
