@VoidofLight Yeah, that was my first immediate thought when I heard about the next-gen pricing strategy: "Oh god, nobody tell Nintendo."
I do think it'll need to become totally commonplace before Nintendo adopts it, though, which probably means games on their next console will also be $59.99.

@Ralizah True, but I've been seeing a lot of developers already starting to adopt the 69.99 market price. Frontier, Square, EA, Sony themselves. The only publisher I've seen that hasn't yet is Bandai Namco, and even then I'm pretty sure Tales of Arise is going to be 69.99.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
Capcom also hasn't jumped on the $70 train, to my knowledge.
Ditto with Ubisoft.
Of course, that could always change. If there's no appreciable dip in sales for games that adopt the higher MSRP, I fully expect most of those companies to shift gears if they think they can get away with it.
We'll see. I'm glad you have Microsoft out there acting as a counterbalance with smart delivery and GamePass.
@Ralizah Yeah. I just hope Sega/Atlus doesn't end up going this route when Persona 6 comes out.. but seeing as it's years down the line, and how the market is going to shift, I get the feeling that it'll end up being 69.99.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@Ralizah It really feels like backwards compatibility was reluctantly added rather than something Sony actually wanted to do. The way Sony is handling crossgen is very much like how crossgen was handled for the previous transition (360 -> XB1, PS3 -> PS4).
@Ralizah wow. That's quite a bad look. I already thought it was stupid that the expensive collector's editions don't even come with a physical copy, but now you need the digital version to upgrade in the first place. And that concept is already stretching it. As someone in the comment section put it; imagine paying $60 for medium settings on a PC game, $70 for high, and $80 for max settings. It just doesn't make any sense when you put it this way.
All I can think of is that they want to ensure that everyone can upgrade, so if you bought the PS4 disc, and you got yourself a disc-less PS5, you aren't stuck. I still think it's a stupid reason because the few people with a disc-less PS5 probably buy their games digital on PS4 anyway.
Then again, we're used to this on the Switch. Wish I was able to get a discount on those Wii U ports on Switch.
And the only positive thing I can say is that Sony games drop in price fast, if you want a PS5 version a year or two later, at least you're not paying full price.
@Ralizah Yeah, I may have forgotten how the combat was early game. There are optional boss fights (and challenge missions) that really test your skills. I'll admit that I put the game on easy for the final hidden boss fight, couldn't do it on normal. The game is definitely rewarding if you're willing to put the time and energy into learning the combat system.
@dmcc0
Well, we will see later on year 2022.
First time i saw Bandai Namco as publisher of Roller Coaster Tycoon games.
Hopefully the game can running in 60 fps and able to customize the park more detail with PS5 power.
@Anti-Matter I haven't really played any of these type of games since probably Theme Park back on the Amiga. With all the other stuff I've got going on I just can't commit as much time as I'd probably need to play - stuff like this tends to be a real time sink.
I think the difference is, PS5 games ported from PS4 are just PS4 games running via BC, basically. They just run at higher res and framerate due to more power. Now, I do appreciate adding 3D audio and HD rumble- that's at least something more than you'd expect from just running on a more powerful system. But I don't think paying for upgrades on a system that's essentially running PS4 games via BC is comparable to games that are ported to completely separate architecture.
Having said all that, I'm OK with paying $10 for an upgrade if they've added HD rumble and 3D audio. Obviously, in the context of the entire game and all its assets and world and recorded audio and cutscenes being $60, it hardly seems worth it to pay 17% more just to have fancy rumble and spatial audio. Nevertheless, to me it's worth the $10.
Sony pretty quickly changed course on this. Horizon Forbidden West is now a free PS4 --> PS5 upgrade, meaning it's a de facto $60 game unless you really feel the need to have that PS5 physical on your shelf.
Going forward, future cross-platform releases will feature a $10 upgrade fee for PS4 version owners, which is fair, IMO.
I wasn't even expecting a free upgrade in the future. I just wanted to be able to make the choice if and when I got a PS5.
The cynic in me is noticing a pattern where they make announcements intentionally designed to be provocative and then quickly back off after the expected backlash for a boost to PR.
Well, anyway, this is very good news. And it means my launch purchase is back on. This game looks fantastic.

@Ralizah I still feel as if it should be free if you already bought the game, but I guess Sony is dead set on making 70 dollars the price for next gen games.

@VoidofLight To be fair, when Microsoft fully transitions over to just making Series X stuff they're probably going to be charging the same exact prices. Like I fully expect stuff like Hellblade 2 and Starfield to follow a similar model

@TheFrenchiestFry Flight Sim was originally announced for XB1 but got cancelled so Redfall will be the first Xbox Game Studios game for Series X|S that was never announced for XB1 (unless another one releases before Redfall but currently it is Redfall).
Bokujou Monogatari 25th Anniversary.
Also...
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town PS4 & XBOX version will be released on 26 October 2021.
And one more thing...
Story of Seasons: Pioneer of Olive Town will get PC version on 15 September 2021.

I'd love to think they're that smart, but I can't see buffoon Ryan thinking up something like that. Unfortunately I seriously believe they fumble like that.
Anyway, apparently they've also confirmed that Forbidden West will include a (chess-based?) mini game called Strike, where you play a game with carved figures against NPCs. If it's a collectable game like Gwent, I'm already all over it. Stuff like this really helps large open world games feel a little more diverse.
