GOW gets better. HZD barely had a plot in the beginning either. That's how most games start. Though I will say, GOW keeps it very 'small'. It's a very personal story, but it's also setting up a sequel. Which is also part of the reason why I am looking so much forward to the sequel, because there's so much left to unpack. But yeah, if you don't care about the lore, you are missing out a little I think.

I personally don't mind the narrow path-like structure. I'm not a firm believer that open worlds are the best solution either, especially when 99% of them are barren and filled with tedious side quests to keep you playing. But that's why I can also enjoy TLOU and Uncharted, maybe even more so than most open world games.

My main criticisms of HZD are the awful human combat, those audio logs, lack of traversal. But the sequel seems to be fixing most of that. I also recall one unique Thunderjaw in HZD that was part of a quest, it was supposedly the strongest of them all. I wish the game had more of those special encounters.

@JaxonH I bet they're going to market Forbidden West with the haptic feedback, she has a bow after all. It would look a bit silly if they don't include gyro aiming, so I'm 95% positive it will be there. But a small part in me wouldn't be surprised if they completely ''forget'' about it, and it's a post-launch update or something like that.

Does the PC version of HZD have native gyro support, or only through Steam?

Got my seeker status last night and destroyed the demon. Now I'm setting out on my journey.

Spent a ton of time doing every side quest and running around exploring the world, killing machines and collecting plants. I'm up to Level 10 now.

@Octane
Only through Steam. Which is usually how it goes. I can't recall many other Steam games that have Gyro natively. Though Monkey Ball will be one.

There's only one community config for the PS5 controller in Horizon on Steam, and that's the one I use. It's perfect.

Update is fine with me too. I'd buy as soon as that update dropped. As long as it gets it.

PlayStation Showcase isn't a State of Play, so hopefully it will be better than a SOP.

TheFrenchiestFry

If it's a showcase it's definitely going to be more first party centric than the SOPs.

My bets are we're probably seeing a proper reveal God of War 2018's sequel, along with GT7, something new from first party, the Bluepoint Games acquisition announcement + a new game or remake from them, a classic PlayStation IP revival like maybe the new WipEout that's been rumored for PS5/VR2, the FromSoftware exclusive game and maybe Marvel's Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac to tie in with Spider-Man's 60th anniversary next year.

@TheFrenchiestFry No PSVR2.

I expect GOW, maybe a GT7 update, something from ND, either the TLOU Factions, or the TLOU remake. And maybe something else, Astro Bot, or indeed Spider-Man 2.

Octane

I already think I expect too much.

TheFrenchiestFry

@Octane Well I didn't say an unveiling of VR2, more just announcing a game that will be on PS5, but they'll also mention it'll be playable on the next-gen VR headset too

I hope we get a look at XVI, but I highly doubt we will.

Holy crap, you can't even pay a fee to upgrade to the PS5 version of Horizon. If you want to play it on PS4 and then eventually upgrade to the native PS5 version, you have to shell out $80 for the digital deluxe edition or else purchase the game all over again. That's... insane.

Sony's greed is just rampant right now.

@Octane I am starting to enjoy God of War more now. I just stumbled on an optional island with a dragon that was WAY more satisfying than any of the main plot sequences. It even had a boss fight.

Combat also improves a lot once you unlock more of Kratos' skills. There are almost too many techniques at this point. But it's way more satisfying to kill enemies.

@Ralizah That blows. The fact that you even have to pay to upgrade some games is messed up. Next gen upgrades should be free across the board, no matter what.

Ralizah

@VoidofLight Hugely disappointing. I wasn't entirely opposed to $10 upgrade fees for PS5 versions if it meant PS4 versions stayed at last gen's MSRP, but having to pay $20 extra for the privilege of having access to the PS5 version down the road, or else having to buy the game again at full price is just unbelievable greed.

This game was a day one buy for me (something I basically never do with first-party Playstation games), and now I'm wondering if I even want to support it at full price. Hopefully Sony reverses course on this, but I'm guessing they won't.

Ugh.

I understand the outrage, but I'm less offended than the fact they're 70 dollar games on PS5 in the first place. "Guys if we ignore reality enough, people will have more money than they did when we raised the price to 60". Ugh.

I'm not saying this is good by any means, but this is still a deal compared to what I'm used to, which was always "screw you, buy it at full price a second time". I would've paid an extra 20 bucks to get a Switch copy of Mario Kart 8. No the 3 year gap doesn't make a huge difference to me. Or back in the day I would've paid extra for a GCN + Wii double copy of Twilight Princess, you couldn't even find a Wii for months so I had that game for nearly half a year before I could play it.

@kkslider5552000 I hate the price raise for games. It doesn’t even make sense, given most games aren’t even going to be higher quality anyways.

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

Ralizah

$70 is only MSRP at launch. The price will go down when they've juiced the people who aren't willing to wait. Most of those $70 games will be going for half price or less in a year or two after launch.

PS5 is fully backwards-compatible with PS4, and Sony has demonstrated it's a relatively simple thing to upgrade people to native digital PS5 versions of games after-the-fact. It's not similar to charging full price for versions of games on wildly different platforms.

The truly objectionable thing isn't even the price, but the way they've limited it. You either pay a massive premium at launch for a version you can't even use for god knows how long, or you pay full price for the game on PS5 later on if you want access to the performance upgrades, even though Sony is fully able to make an upgrade path available to you.

@Ralizah The only issue for me is that spoilers exist, making it harder to wait for price drops. Not to mention how next gen, Nintendo will probably price their games at 70 as well, and they never do price reductions..

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

Ralizah

@VoidofLight Yeah, that was my first immediate thought when I heard about the next-gen pricing strategy: "Oh god, nobody tell Nintendo."

I do think it'll need to become totally commonplace before Nintendo adopts it, though, which probably means games on their next console will also be $59.99.

Currently Playing: Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition

VoidofLight

@Ralizah True, but I've been seeing a lot of developers already starting to adopt the 69.99 market price. Frontier, Square, EA, Sony themselves. The only publisher I've seen that hasn't yet is Bandai Namco, and even then I'm pretty sure Tales of Arise is going to be 69.99.

"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."

Ralizah

@VoidofLight Tales of Arise is $60 on PS5.

Capcom also hasn't jumped on the $70 train, to my knowledge.
Ditto with Ubisoft.

Of course, that could always change. If there's no appreciable dip in sales for games that adopt the higher MSRP, I fully expect most of those companies to shift gears if they think they can get away with it.

We'll see. I'm glad you have Microsoft out there acting as a counterbalance with smart delivery and GamePass.

Oddly, I've seen some games being £10 more for the one in a PS5 box when I know the upgrade from PS4 is free .... Which makes it even more confusing!
