@Dezzy PSX used to be a full-blown event. But that's also when they still did E3, TGS, Gamescom and/or Paris Games Week. So they used to spread their announcement out over these big events.

State of Play is kinda mediocre in comparison. Until the day a SOP starts with a full-blown GOW orchestra, it isn't a replacement.

Continuing to chop that wood in EDF 4.1.

Just passed 80 hours played and only 25% of online missions complete, lol.

All 98 easy mission boxes have been checked, now moving on to normal difficulty.

I really want to see more of that Little Devil Inside game

I'm definitely not holding my breath for FFXVI being here though

FFXVI would massively overshadow Deathloop, lol.

If Sony continues with this Nintendo 2020 approach to game marketing and XVI is sufficiently far enough along in development, it might get its own showcase at some point.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

@Ralizah If XVI shows up in any of these SoPs, I'm expecting a teaser, with more information to be shared at a seperate event like how Square blew out info on FFVII Remake during its proper unveiling

I'm not expecting XVI to get a State of Play on its own, but rather some big Square Enix-led event. That's what was at least kind of indicated by the tips from Yoshida, and FFXIV had similar things done for it and its expansions, which Yoshida also was involved in

In my opinion, the ps1 and ps2 are cool but I don't like the later Playstations as much

So I saw the schedule of PS5 games this year, and it looks pretty solid, all things considered.

It's like the Nintendo approach in that they're like "hey here's actual video games that will have an audience that will like them". And there were quite a few spread out throughout the year, and they seem to stand out from each other (though I've not looked into this actual notDirect to see the Deathloop stuff, even though I'm seemingly one of the only people who had any optimism about the premise).

I'm saying all this, because what I'm saying here sounds very boring and normal and reasonable. Which is why its eternally infuriating that it stands out when a video game company does this. Why is this so far from the norm anymore?

Considering the launch window has had so far, three pure exclusives and 5 big name titles both released and upcoming that are still exclusive to PlayStation platforms I'd say PS5 is off to a really strong start

I don't even care that Horizon and God of War are cross gen. The games are probably going to be great anyway considering their developers' pedigree

It's been pretty good so far. I actually haven't bought as many PS5 games as I expected though. I did get Sackboy and R&C, and I will get Horizon later this year. Returnal and Spider-Man are on my list as well, but I'll wait for a price drop on those, the latter because I played Spider-Man like 2 years prior, and I didn't feel playing another one this soon.

With the games being more expensive, I'm definitely more inclined to wait if it isn't an absolute day one for me.

I'm hoping by the time I get a PS5, most of the early games I want to play have come down to pretty low prices. Most Playstation games do tend to over time.

@Zuljaras Which model of PS One did you go for in the end and what factors played into your decision?

You guys had me at blood and semen.

@gcunit I got the "PS One"

I read about the different models and many people said that the PS One is reliable. The Disc reader is reliable and it would not bend due to heat problems like some of the older models.

The condition is amazing. The guy that sold it to me said it was from his personal collection. For 35$ I got the console, one gamepad and a memory card. The console runs but I have no games for it yet

I also ordered a S-Video cable and waiting for it.

Yes the form factor is not the usual big and square shaped but still I like it.

I am yet to receive my first game for it Crusaders of Might and Magic. Waiting for it to come from Spain. I had no luck in running this game on emulation on my PS3 and my PSP. There are those weird slowdowns that happen frequently that are extremely noticeable. Same with Warrior of Might and Magic. SO it might be some 3DO protection.

So I am finally play it on the original hardware and see if I am not actually crazy

While most of the game's aren't my speed at all, Sony has done a pretty good job of supplying the PS5 with ambitious first-party material thus far. PS4's first two years or so were so much worse.

With that said, as far as I see it, there's very little advantage to jumping in over the next few years, with Sony frontloading the prices of their games and Microsoft's permanent first-party GamePass additions almost all being years in the future.

In a few years, a wide library of Microsoft first-party efforts will be permanently available via GamePass, finally making the service worthwhile for me, and Sony's early-to-mid crop of $70 exclusives will have sunk in price (I think this value depreciation will become even more prominent as GP becomes more of a threat and PS5s become more readily available to customers), whereas Nintendo's exclusives will be the same price as they were at launch, making waiting for those utterly pointless.

@Zuljaras $35 is an amazing price for a working PSOne in great condition!

The worst thing about the PS5 game prices from my perspective is that they seem to have decided $70 is equal to £70, when in fact £70 is nearly $100! Those prices would be enough to make me wait several years to buy a PS5 if I had any intention of getting one in the first place. (As it is, I'm only just getting into PlayStation for the first time - I've been borrowing my brother's PS2 recently and he's going to sell me his PS3 after that - so I probably will get a PS5 one day but I've got plenty else to play in the meantime.)

Ralizah makes a good point above: Sony surely can't afford to keep charging these prices for games forever if Game Pass is going to keep getting more popular, which all signs suggest it will.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

BruceCM

Well, I'm not sure that's all down to Sony, @Dogorilla .... Most games cost effectively more here in the UK than in America, concerting the currency
Then, their games do seem to go down in price for the new physical copies fairly soon, as well as being able to get pre-owned ones
Along with going on digital sales, etc.

@BruceCM True, it might not be Sony's fault. But most $60 Switch games are £50 here, which is still a bit more expensive for us but it's not as bad as on PS5. Good to hear that PS games go down in price before long though. Hopefully by the time I do get a PS5 (which, again, won't be for a long time) the games I want will be more affordable.

You could make the case that outside of the time Nintendo gave you free games on 3DS because 3DS bombed at launch and needed a price cut, its always been a disadvantage to buy a gaming system early in its lifespan. Mostly because they will cost less, later. The games too.

Well, I'm talking generally about games on PS & Xbox previously, @Dogorilla .... Probably have to wait a bit longer to see about PS5 exclusives but a lot of the games also on PS4 have free upgrades, so it's not like it usually matters which box you get them in

@Dogorilla In EU they're, €80. Can't remember what that's in GBP, but it's around $108 IIRC.
