So What's everyone's favorite rpg? Mine is Tales Of Symphonia. Its probably Nostalgia but I remember seeing the build up to that game in Nintendo Power and being at target with my mom and Practically begging for that game. Got real invested in the characters and story of religious persecution. Was pissed that kratos betrayed me right after I had stocked him of with new gear.

Tales of Symphonia spoilers!
I take it you got the path where Kratos doesn't rejoin you and Zelos stays with you? Depending on your actions throughout the game, certain events change and the biggest one is in one of the visits to the Tower of salvation. It sounds like you fought the gatekeeper but if you don't, Zelos will betray you and he will be the boss in that visit to the Tower of salvation instead of the gatekeeper. If this happens, Kratos will permanently rejoin you shortly after the boss fight against him where you fight him with Lloyd and no one else.

Mega Man X Command Mission was actually pretty great for the first half. The second half killed it, though, IMO. If you want a good FFX clone, try the Shadow Hearts series.

As for Legend of Dragoon, despite its vocal fanbase, it apparently didn't do very well, at least critically (it sold over a million copies, though, so you'd think it would've gotten a sequel at some point). Same with Arc Rise Fantasia. I'm actually not surprised you liked it, as they share similar criticisms (inconsistant gameplay, difficulty spikes, relatively uninspired), which you managed to overlook.

Yeah like with White Knight Chronicles(though this game is just sad at the moment), I love trying Out games that get mixed reviews, sometimes I end up finding ones I really like.

Arc Rise was mainly for the fighting style, it changed up the original wait then attack system, you had to think more before you just simply chose one attack for each character a turn. And I liked Dragoon for the button click system for the combos (and hearing the characters say the atttack, really Dragon ball z ish haha)

Now I'm just waiting on Xenoblade and Last story.... So much waiting >.>

Tales of Symphonia and Skyrim are probably my favourites. I was playing a lot of Skyrim until, well, I took an arrow to the knee. Actually, I'm just waiting for some more mod to gather and start playing with that.

I have always felt that the Mario RPG games are the best in the genre. Its much more engaging than just like PRESS ATTACK then WAIT then GET ATTACKED then ATTACK. That being said I also love Final Fantasy 1-6, Dragon Quest IX, Chrono Trigger, etc.

What do you guys think the chances of Dragon Quest X coming to America this year. I'm expecting a jpn release in fall with the wii-u game being a launch title. I mean if this were announced for a fall western launch that would pretty much be me buying a wii-u day 1.

so far we know

First internally developed DQ game at Square Enix

  • Produced by Yosuke Saito (NIER) and directed by Jin Fujisawa (DQ8, DQ9)
  • Online RPG for Wii and WiiU
  • The Wii version will be released in 2012 in Japan, no date for WiiU version
  • The WiiU version will have much better graphics, but the world will be the same
  • The opening movie is by Square Visual Works
  • The game takes place in a world with 5 continents, and 5 different races/tribes living in them
  • Massive world and story that builds on the foundations of DQ9's ideas
  • Visible equipment
  • For those who play alone there will be NPCs who can be recruited into the party and driven by AI
  • There are battle transitions, and the combat commands at menu based, but the player only controls his/her character
  • The Wii game supports Wiimote+Nunchuck, Classic Controller, Classic Controller Pro, as well as USB Keyboards
  • The Wii game will use both the game disc as well as USB memory storage
  • There could be a feature where characters can be transferred onto the 3DS and shared with other players using Streetpas
"When you start the game, the first few hours can be played offline. To play all of the game you will require an internet connection
  • One player can create three characters. i.e. You have three character slots if you want to switch between different race/class builds.

I'm honest;y suprised the wii could run an MMO.

I don't like RPGs that just have you trading blows either, but any RPG that makes combat feel more like a mini game than a strategy game is not more engaging to me.

You just described every Mario RPG, Final Fantasy 1-6, Dragon Quest IX, Chrono Trigger, etc.

Just for you.

I wouldn't mind paying an online fee for Dragon Quest compared too to say Montster Hunter tri. One is an actual MMO and will have expansion content around the system.

My only complaint is that your only a human for the first part of the game. The story turns you into one of the other races. I'm guessing that's close to the part where the game becomes online only.

and even if you didn't, basically the only games left that follow the basic turn based system anymore are Dragon Quest, Pokemon and blatant nostalgia games

Really depends on the game and how i'm feeling. I think they both have their place in the market.

Was thinking about Pokemon Black/white 2. No doubt this is still going to sell gangbusters but this would be time for a pokemon 3DS clone to come out in america. It might not do great mainstream numbers but it would do pretty well in the Atlus/Xseed market. not sure how many are in development expect netabots 3D and Dragon quest monsters 1 remake.
