1. As a kid, I always played New Super Mario Bros on the DS. I wanted one myself, but I couldn’t get one, so my dad bought a Wii U (yes, my dad was one of the like, 13 people who actually bought on Wii U) with New Super Mario Bros U
2. The games that sold me on Nintendo was Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Galaxy 2 . I had a blast playing them and they drove me to buy many other Nintendo games and eventually the Switch, which drove me to dip into other franchises besides mario.
Some great posts so far. Seeing lots of Mario mentions - looks like the wii fella has been pretty influential to Nintendo's sales over the years... Who knew?
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Only two things push me over the edge in regards to gaming. Being presented with a mechanical challenge and just...bad games. I'm not a MLG gamer and I'm an old man, so I tend to avoid competitive multiplayer games and/or competitive versus games. I grew up loving Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, and Killer Instinct. But chances are you won't find me in an online lobby waiting for a match these days.
And bad games are bad forever.
If I'm not enjoying what I'm playing inside...twenty minutes, then I just know the game isn't for me.

N64 and Mario 64/007. Was in 9th grade and saved every penny until I could get it after trying at a friends. We had a nes/snes/gameboy, but I was old enough to want the n64 and earn it myself. After that, I’ve owned every Nintendo console. I can’t say 1 game or console sold me on Nintendo,it’s just that after all these years of gaming, as much as I’ve owned pcs/other consoles, Nintendo will always be my favorite. All other gaming is just placeholder gaming while I wait to play something on Nintendo_______.
1. I got my first 3DS at the age of four. My dad sent one to me from across the country, on military business. Sent it along with Cars 2 and Toy Story 3 games, and later on, my mom bought be Super Mario 64, DS edition. I still haven’t beat it, actually.
2. My parents weren’t really Nintendo experts, and neither was I up until a few years ago, but the game that sold me on Nintendo first parties was Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - wait for it - Gates to Infinity. That was what I initially considered quality Pokémon games. Later on down the line, I received Pokémon Moon and I discovered the true franchise as it was meant to be. However, the only game I’ve put more than 250 hours into is Smash Bros. Ultimate, with 1,300 and counting, so either one of those games works really

I played Super Smash Bros. Melee at my friends house, and that made me buy the GameCube and Melee after I saved up some money. It was the first console I bought myself with my own money, I was about 9 I think.
1. Crash Bandicoot Warped. My Cousin originally had a PlayStation and we would take turns playing this. I liked it so much that I got a PlayStation.
2. I think Super Mario Sunshine. It was where I bought the Gamecube, which was technically my first Nintendo Console outside of the Gameboy Color and Advance. Up until then, I didn't really know what Nintendo was and that I even owned something by them and I never knew who Mario was. It was only Sonic and whatever I played on the PlayStation.
Take heart, for a measure of a person lies not in how one deals with the easiest situations. But rather in what you do when faced with the most hopeless of circumstances. -Vexx
Wii sports sold me on the wii, and the Yoshida Brothers (the song played in the original wii commercials is “kodo-inside the sun remix”) but I was intent on getting a wii day one because of Twilight Princess.

I'm a Dream Fighter. Perfume is Love, Perfume is Life.
Ignoring NES, SNES and N64 because those were consoles my parents got for me as a kid. I'm also ignoring PS2 and PS3, which I only owned because people traded them to me and I never really played them much.
The game that got me to buy my first console as an adult that I actually wanted, was Metroid Prime. I watched my brother play every day for weeks, sometimes 8 hrs a day, and I had so much fun watching I bought the Platinum GameCube bundle with Metroid Prime and got Metroid Prime 2. Also bought F-Zero GX to go along with it.
But... that still didn't turn me into a gamer.
Years later I got a Wii because it was all the rage, and Metroid Prime 3 was releasing, so I got one with that and Zelda Twilight Princess. Beat both games, but then went to jail to serve 18 months. Years later I got DKC Returns and beat that, but still, not enough to make me a gamer.
It wasn't until I got a 3DS, with Ultra Street Fighter IV, Zelda Ocarina of Time and Resident Evil Revelations, that I truly started gaming. It was Resident Evil Revelations that got me. I beat the game, then beat it again playing online RAID mode with my brother. That is what led to me being interested in games enough that I got a Vita, but I wanted a new home console. And Wii U was just about to release. So I got one.
And the Wii U is what truly confirmed my journey into being a gamer. 3DS started it, but Wii U sealed the deal. I was so excited for New Super Mario Bros U. HD Mario, when I hadn't played Mario since I was a kid? That was incredibly alluring. I would go on to try all types of games- Pikmin 3 (loved it), Wonderful 101 (loved it), Bayonetta 2 (loved it), Super Mario 3D World (loved it), Splatoon (loved it), DKC Tropical Freeze announcement actually brought tears of joy to my eyes (I'm not kidding, I actually teared up when they announced it- I LOVED that series as a kid, and DKC Returns, so seeing it in HD for the first time was like, a dream come true for me).
That led to buying a PS4 day one. And eventually an Xbox One X.
Now I have a Switch OLED, PS5, Series X and PC, with a SteamDeck on order. How far I've come.

Wait... brother, are you saying that MP3 and Twilight Princess pushed you over the edge?
@CANOEberry
Perhaps. Like Metroid Prime 2 on the GameCube, they interested me enough to buy a system, but I didn't stay consistently gaming because of it. It wasn't til 3DS and Wii U I started consistently gaming.
But I think those games played a big part in leading me toward gaming, for sure.
