@VoidofLight well there's yer problem lol. There's a ruined church near the starting location with a merchant named Kalé, he has some armor for sale (although i cant recall how pricey). Until you replace your starting equipment it'll prolly be a challenge. But seriously though - props for taking on that challenge [fist bump]

There's also quite a few great weapons available either free or relatively easily & just in the 1st area after the tutorial cave or whatever it is, @Losermagnet & @VoidofLight ....
What sort do you want?

@Losermagnet I actually bought a crafting set from him, but wasn't aware he sold armor too. I might go back over and check his stuff out.

@BruceCM Oh, I didn't know that! I know there were boss or dungeon gates inside the cave area, but I couldn't access them.

@VoidofLight im pretty sure i got my chainmail from him...apologies if i'm mistaken. There are a bunch of merchants dotting the landscape and they all look like him (although he's the only one that looks like Santa Claus).

@BruceCM i'm pretty happy with my current weapon combo, but im looking to replace my armor. Nothings been better than this chainmail though. Any suggestions?

Well, I don't think I came across your merchant, @Losermagnet .... I'm not sure what is best for your class/build, either! But plenty of regular monsters drop stuff, if you face enough of whichever 1, while obviously bosses drop great stuff, etc
Unfortunately, with the way I was wandering around rather aimlessly when I 1st got into the open world, I don't really remember exactly where I got what, though
The best stuff for my warrior won't be as good for you or @VoidofLight, sadly

When you get to the Roundtable Hold, there's an NPC there, too For instance, you can get The Axe of Godrick, after defeating him, which is no use to me but if you're the right build to use it ....

@DomGC i'll check em out, thanks 👍 usually when I find a better piece of armor it ends up being too heavy and i'm trying to avoid dumping a bunch of points into increasing my equipment load.

@BruceCM an NPC that fights you in the Roundtable hold? I fought an invader there recently, and got a weapon for that...does that sound right?

Staid up a little late and snuck some game time in. I managed to beat Godrick. It was a good fight, I was a more appropriate level than when I fought Margit so it wasn’t too bad. I really like his design, very grotesque. Stormveil Castle was an amazing level. Reminded me a lot of Hyrule Castle from BotW but mixed with Dark Souls. I’m very excited to see how things will go next, I think I’m gonna head North and see if I can get some better sorceries.

Past Godrick and even defeated some stronger side bosses around the map, enjoying the game a lot more now that I've started appreciating it more as an open world game than a Dark Souls game.

Also getting an appropriate strength weapon which is similar to weapons I use in other Souls games helped after beating the Tree Sentinel.

Great game but I'm still a bit iffy on it being claimed an absolute masterpiece. Some are even saying it's the "best game in the world", which like...it's good but come on man.

Dunno about invasions as I'm playing offline, @Losermagnet .... But now you've beaten Godrick, if you talk to Enia .... My Warrior can't equip heavy armour, either! Fortunately, there's a good selection of stuff that drops from various enemies, although obviously it'll take awhile getting a full matching set Chainmail sounds pretty good, anyway!

The Santa merchant is out to brutally murder me. I hit his donkey a couple of times out of curiosity, since I didn’t actually think that the thing could take actual damage. It did, and the merchant now wants to brutally tear me apart because I hit his donkey. No more armor or items for me I guess, unless he’ll calm down and not continue to ride his horse around the church ruins like a superboss.

Uh, that might not have been a good idea, @VoidofLight .... Been looking into it a bit & there's certainly plenty of armour available from enemies, though! If you want or need to keep it to lightweight, then either the Blue Cloth set my Warrior started with or that chain stuff seems to be about the best However, there's plenty of medium-weight sets around that might be worth looking into for you & @Losermagnet, if you want?

@BruceCM Ah. Hopefully I can find enemies that are weak enough to kill, who drop armor and weapons.

Well, inevitably, that is the 'difficulty', @VoidofLight ..... You're guaranteed the drops from bosses but your regular monsters do all seem to have 'drops' of some kind, with varying probabilities! Are you sure you don't want to try a different class? Wretch is supposed to be the most difficult, isn't it?

Yeah that seems a bit premature. I'm loving the game, but it's no BotW.

@VoidofLight ah thats a shame. There's usually a way to calm aggro'd NPCs in Souls games but I have no idea how or where in Elden Ring yet. Restarting might be the simplest option, as it might take more time farming for better equipment. Fwiw there's another merchant on the beach SW of Kalé sheltered under some ruins. I cant remember if he has any equipment though.

@BruceCM actually going through Stormveil gave me some slightly better armor so I'm sticking with that for now. And i'm playing offline too - you can still be attacked by AI controlled invaders. And there's one lurking in the Roundtable hold so lookout!

Ah, OK, @Losermagnet .... AI invaders might be rather randomized as to when & where they are, though! Dunno if I have fought any, I didn't notice

The AI invasions can be pretty fun. Nothing quite like riding around exploring when suddenly your spectral steed disappears and someone starts chasing you and trying to gut you like a fish 😂.

@BruceCM Why do I get the feeling that this won't be the only uncanny or weird enemy in this game?
