Has there actually been a good Smash Bros. clone? It seems to me anything with the Smash Bros. formula just doesn't come close to matching up.
TMNT Smash Up and Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion are probably the only Smash Bros. clones out there. For some reason the Smash Bros. series doesn't get many imitators.
Jump Superstars.
Otherwise, those companies with large stables of popular characters are too busy either making superior (Dissidia Final Fantasy) or cheap and inferior (that GBA Sonic Fighting game) mash Em ups to bother copying Nintendo's formula.
It can't be fake. If you read the article, this Paul Gale guy directly responded to commenters who claimed it was fake. He said he has "insider info" and he "talks to the higher-ups" at many different game companies.
But just because he claims that, still doesn't make it true. This Paul Gale guy seems pretty adamant that his article is the real thing, though.
If only all companies would get together and make an universal Smash Bros. game...now that would be epic.
Oh yes. It would be the "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" of videogame crossovers.
Smash Bros. Brawl came close, with both Konami and Sega putting their characters in. Now all we need is Capcom, Namco, Square Enix, and Hudson. Then we'd have all the major Japanese publishers in Smash Bros.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
But just because he claims that, still doesn't make it true.
OBJECTION! The witness' testimony is clearly contradictory! I motion to strike this witness' testimony from the record, Your Honor.
I see what you did there. I was referring to what this "Paul Gale" guy was claiming in his article, that he had absolute certainty that this game was real.

OBJECTION! Foolish fool foolishly fools around in this foolish court. I motion to strike the defense, for foolish foolishness.

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Phoenix Wright would be so fresh in Super Sony Smash Bros. Just saiyan.

Are we taking this seriously now? Sounds a little too "me too." Usually you announce a new game, the first thing you tout is what's new about it, not what's the same. The only other Smash clone we got that I played was that Ninja Turtles game, and look how that turned out. I'd be interested to know who specifically is making this.
Also, Dissidia is about 15 points lower than Melee and Brawl on Metacritic and has nowhere near as large or dedicated of a competitive community (the latter being more an indicator of quality to me personally). Doesn't exactly sound superior, not that the game play is at all similar enough to have any reason to compare the two. I only played the demo, but it seemed pretty awful, if I remember right. Like it or not though, at least they are trying something new, which is highly unusual for a fighting game.
1. HipHopGamer leaked this January of this year. 2. Paul Gale used to be a writer for 1Up, and has contributed articles for EGM and CVG. 3. He has attended every E3 for 12 years straight and was even made into a background character in Street Fighter IV. 4. You are saying it's fake because you wish you could be just like him.

Yes, all the necessary requirements for an announcement not to be fake.
I don't believe rumors (which this still is) until an official announcement is made

You don't believe in leaks? Because that's exactly what this situation is.
Just to add credence, HipHopGamer leaked Kratos as being a playable character in the Mortal Kombat reboot about a year in advance.

And how often are leaks actually accurate? I can tell you that not many are
