Topic: PS3 720p to 1080p change

I recently got a PS3, and since it's my first HD console, my TV has likely been running in 720p or 480p definition. Is there any way to check the definition it's running on right now and/or change the definition? My TV is capable of running in 1080p. Thanks.

First of all you need hd cables, the You can go to settings, screen settings and it will show the way you are connected to your tv and change that and it will normally automatically adjust to the maximum output your tv is capable of

It will be difficult to say for sure. My TV for instance will display the resolution when you switch the output. You might be able to hit the info button and it will display it for you. First of all make sure your ps3 is set to display 1080p. Then also look on the back of the box to make sure the game is even capable of displaying in that format. Most TVs will automatically adjust to the signal received! Good luck.

You can manually select which inputs you want your PS3 to display in. Just go to the screen settings like the above poster said and select the 'manual' option. I'm not on my PS3 right now so I can't tell you exacts, sorry.

Also, most games only display in 720p just to let you know :3

Oh yeah. You have to have a HDMI cable as well.

Toss PS3 at wall. This will fix any problems.

Thank you for your understanding.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

I changed the settings in my TV to 1080i (Turns out it doesn't support 1080p) And I'm trying to change the graphical settings on my PS3. I went to the display settings but I ended up not accomplishing anything. Are there official HDMI cables I can buy online or at a store?

Yes. Go to Best Buy or CIrcut City or something. They'll have it there.

Protip: 720p looks better than 1080i for most games.
Edit: didn't see that this thread was a few weeks old already xD

@Flandy 720p looks better than 1080i most all the times, but 1080p is an entirely different story. Basically, if your TV is over 32in then your going to want a 1080p HDMI TV, because the drop in visual quality is quite noticeable on sets above 32in when moving from a 720p to 1080p.
