Just in case anyone missed it in the Atlus fan thread:
Guys, Atlus is gone. Dissolved. Probably the saddest blog post I've had to write yet.
Huge pity, but the silver lining if there is one is this - most of the Atlus-published games, those that we can expect sequels from (such as Demon's Souls), we can still expect to be published - it'll just take someone else to take it on.
What's sad is such a brave publisher couldn't survive in the industry - but that's what's always going to happen to organisations that take risks - they generally have a shorter life span than the more general players.
@WaltzElf: From what I've read, it's still a bit unclear what's actually going on with Atlus, with a formal Western announcement still forthcoming. From what I understand, their development won't be affected, so it's most likely that all this really means is other publishers picking up titles they would've brought over here, probably XSeed at the forefront.
What sucks is that this was a profit-minded decision by the parent company. In all likelihood, Atlus was doing okay, but not well enough for the business jerks that own it.
@Slappy: The game doesn't work correctly for me unless I'm the party leader, so that works just fine.
Have you guys seen this puzzle going around the net? It's cool how they sent pieces of the puzzle to different sites. Most people think it's a new Wipeout Mini.
@SlapShot82: Yeah it could be but I can still access the EU PSN store as when I first registered I put it as a UK account...but for some reason I can only sign in online (PC) is through us.playstation.com.
I don't want to change my account (as in migrate it to the UK/EU site) as I'll lose all of my progress of what I've done up to now.
Try setting up a second profile that links to a different region. I have one profile for the AU store, and one for the Japanese store. Works great.
You can do that? Sounds great! Although would it even accept the same E-Mail Address and passwords?
How would you switch between profiles also? (does it keep your trophies? Not bothered but it's giving me a reason to 100% Final Fantasy 13).

Well, that's the problem. Only OK probably isn't acceptable in the current economic environment.
When you work to small margins you only need one game to sell badly and you're in trouble. It's not a 'jerk' reaction to protect your business by getting rid of those risky business models.
I nearly broke my MW2 disc yesterday. lol I got no sleep and was playing MW2 at like 8am in the morning. I then got into a FFA match and lets just say,it was not fun at all. Took the game out of my drive and slammed it onto the floor. Picked it up and there was no scratches whatsoever. There were markings yes which I got rid of. It still looks like i just bought the game yesterday. lol Amazing. Thank God for blu-rays. If that were a DVD,it might have been destroyed. lol

I got a copy of Ys 7 today. At some point ill actually play it buts it getting really good rating, G4 gave it a 5/5. Somebody in this thread said they had it but I cant find it.

@WaltzElf: The way I see it, businesses should be thankful to be turning a profit AT ALL in a bad economy. You make the wrong decisions in a troubled time and you wind up FURTHER alienating your customers. Kind of like how GameStop has been constantly increasing the sales push over the past year, bringing its popularity even further down than normal. If they continue pushing harder and harder in response, they'll eventually kill themselves. In the same way, Atlus' owner may well be shooting itself in the foot by taking away such a beloved brand, if, in fact, that's what's going on. The news is still unclear at current.
I don't think Atlus was doing as badly as you do, either. Demon's Souls did FAR better than Atlus expected, leaving them rushing to print more copies after a launch sell-out. Keeping in mind also that localizing other developer's games is much cheaper than developing your own, and I'm sure they made enough money from that one game to finance at least two flops, yet I doubt they've released anything that didn't turn at least SOME profit recently.
My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

You should probably start getting some sleep. Or attend anger management courses.
We'd rather you not become a statistic that supports the anti-gaming movement.
@Stuff... exactly what I was thinking. Ys7 getting incredible ratings. 3D Dot Game Heroes and Demon Souls have been tremendous sucess. Knights in Knightmare got really good ratings. Hammering Hero was supposively pretty successful. Doesnt make sense to me. I figured they were doing better than ever. Oh not to mention the PSP Personas have caused a big uproar among fans and considered to be top must have titles for PSP.

@Slappy: Again, Ys Seven is from XSeed, not Atlus.
Otherwise, I agree. Perhaps Atlus shot itself in the foot with too many random other PSP games and those "101-in-one" Wii and DS collections. Seems like pretty weak fare to me.

You mean like how Wii Play is "weak fare"? 101-in-one seems like a pretty simple attempt to grab at the casual gaming market, which is proven to be lucrative.
@WaltzElf: How can you compare a random minigame compilation by a company no casual gamer has ever heard of to Wii Play, from Nintendo, which had a Wiimote packed in with EVERY COPY? Not exactly the same thing. That said, I'm afraid I must now admit that it MUST have sold, because they're making more according to their official website. Heck, maybe they're even better than most games of their sort, I don't know...it's in my nature to automatically assume "shovelware!" for such a title, even if it comes from a good publisher.

@stuff... yep, got that mixed up with Ys Book 1 and 2 wich was published by Atlus on DS. I did think that Atlus brought us Ys 7, but I didnt actually look at the box as I did think it was Atlus, but would have bought it regardless Much love for XSEED for bringing us Retro Game Challenge to the US. Im going to import the sequel as soon as I find it less than the $50+ range.
Yeah, it seems XSeed now has a vested interest in the series. Not only did they just release Ys Seven, they're also doing a PSP remake of 1 & 2, plus a separate remake of 3.
In other news, I'm on PSN RIGHT NOW waiting for that friend to show up for Uncharted. He's over an hour late, so I doubt he's coming. I'm still available if anyone else would like to join, though.
EDIT: I gave up. Nobody showed, I didn't get to play. After two hours of waiting, it's time to do something else. Back to Soul Blazer!
Waitaminute...what's the point importing a game you can't understand, Slappy? The way I hear it, there are way too many games in Retro Game Challenge 2 that require a lot of reading.
Anyone else hear that Sony is set to reveal an itunes type service for PSN tomorrow? It will include Music and Video Downloads.
OMG this is like so exciting. Not really though. Pity it probably will be on the American PSN only along with four or five EU Countries.

@ stuff... i now remember why the confusion. G4 reviewed Ys7 as an Atlus title. I remembered that after i got in the bed last night. As for the import, there are guides online to help out.

Can't post the link I'm on my phone. But Atlus isn't gone just merged. Catherine director said they haven't been affected at all. Great news so far if it holds true. I'm still buy more games this weekend just in case.
