So the pre-rendered backgrounds look amazing, do they? What about the blocky characters? They look worse than NES sprites, IMO. Plus, those backgrounds of yours are a real pain in the butt to navigate, as I believe has already been mentioned. Now, I'm not one to bash a game for its graphics...EXCEPTING that they actually impede gameplay, which those in FFVII do.

I'm having no problems navigating in them i don't know what you're all on about, I didn't have a problem back then and I don't have a problem today. And if characters being 'blocky' is the only reason you'll dismiss this gem of a JRPG then it's your loss.

I agree with Kirkraag. FF7 still looks cool today with blocky characters and all.

I thought Linger in the Shadows was terrible. I didn't get it for trophies, but I still didn't really understand the appeal at all.

Just to see all the fuss.

It's incredibly primitive by today's standards - visually and gameplay - it was the first 3D Final Fantasy game, don't forget.

VIII and IX are both significantly more advanced, and hold up better by today's standards.

Graphics?
I still play NES games. I don't care for Graphics unless its current Gen.

Also,may buy FFXIII too.
Have to say...I've never been more skeptical on a game..

Ok, I'll rephrase - FFVII is a downright ugly game. NES games look primative, but not ugly.

Ok,I'll rephrase too.
I DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT GRAPHICS.

speaking of good PSOne rpg's, anybody remember parasite eve? it's in my top 3 for the system joining the ranks of FF7&9 and Suikoden 1&2.

more than any game i'd like to see this on playstation network, to play PE again would be too awesome, one of my favorite games of all time, highly ranked at that. and that's parasite eve 1 not 2.

@Fikraag.... dude, PE1 is one of my all time favorite games ever. I seriously played through it maybe 6-7 times. PE2 aint to bad itself either. I absolutely loved them and I cant wait on the sequel to finally come out on PSP. I think it might have slipped into 2011 though.

@Strofan.... yeah that is what a few of my buddies have said. Im not a big baseball fan (i guess my screen name says it all )

Well, even after trying to back myself out of not stopping by the local story going out of buisness I couldnt help it. There New PS3 games that they were renting were now for sale and I grabbed Dirt2 for $20 USD wich is a dang steal, and its flipping amazing. I could have gotten Wolfenstein and Dark Void as well for right at $50 USD for all three but talked myself out of it. I did grab Infamous cause they had it for $10 USD only to find out checking out that apparently the guy who rented it saw they were going out of buisness and decided to just keep it, so I couldnt get it. I really want to play it at some point so I might have to drop back in this weekend to see if they get it. $10 is a steal. They had like maybe 30 more new releases and its really hard not to just buy most all of them lol.

Not a whole lot of info yet, but apparently the 360 version is a good bit worse than the PS3 version.

@Firkraag: Graphics are actually pretty low priority for me, excepting when they have a negative impact on gameplay. Granted, you are in the majority of those with whom I have discussed this issue in thinking that it isn't a problem, but that doesn't mean it isn't a problem to some of us. I've tried playing FFVII more than once; the furthest I ever got was the very start of disc 2. Honestly, I doubt I'll ever finish it.

The link Slappy provided quotes only a very small portion of the original article responsible for that claim. The article itself is quite long and gets kinda deep into tech-talk at parts, but is still definitely worth looking at. Direct link for your convienience here.

I cannot wait for Gran Turismo 5!!!

over 1000 cars, lots of customisation, awesome tracks with different varients, different class racing:Nascar,Rally, and just plain racing.

I can't believe people are so worked up over it being pushed back.

It was set for realese in March.
.....lol.....yes because people will be able to afford FFXIII,GoW3,Heavy Rain, and MAG in the same two months.

Glad they pushed it back otherwise the sales would been hurt by the other titles.

I agree with Stuffgamer1. I don't care about graphics, but the horrible clash of aesthetics in FFVII between the colours, backgrounds, and characters actually gives me headaches, and the game itself is terrible to navigate. The visuals were seriously detrimental to the game experience.

XIII is out soon, can't wait! So, so excited about that one. But it does mean that Star Ocean 4 is going to be put even further on the backburner, when it was already there because I was busy enjoying the PSN download service (Chocobo racing is such an adorable game), and Dante's Inferno, which I'm slowly plugging through. I'm in the fifth of nine layers of hell now, which is pretty good, because the tone of the game is so dark an intense that I only feel like playing it for 30 minutes at a time.

And, of course, Greed Corp. Good find for me, that one.

Stuffgamer1

Chocobo Racing is one of the better kart-racing-style games out there, but it's certainly not as good as Mario Kart, CTR, or Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. I'm glad I got my copy bundled WITH Chocobo's Dungeon 2 instead of buying it separately. The bundle price was actually better than the going price for JUST Chocobo's Dungeon 2 at the time.

I dunno, there's the same kind of charm about it that attracts me to Super Mario Kart over its sequels.

It's simple, straightforward kart racing, with a pretty great cast of characters - Chocobo is one of my favourite characters of all time. In other words - it's pure fan service.

It's just a little short and light on features - but there's still enough there that I'm thoroughly enjoying the 600 yen I put down for it.

Next stop - Chocobo Stallion.

Well, I got to play a PS3 for the first time on Friday, and it was on an HD tv. I played CoD MW2.
I need to get one. Now.

Just let it happen.

@WaltzElf: I think your avatar was an obvious testament to your devotion to the character.

As such, I should have figured you'd like the game more than most people. The fact that you prefer the original Super Mario Kart over any and all sequels sets your tastes apart from most people's as well (not to say there aren't those who agree on this site; it's more people NOT on this site who would disagree).

I do like the magic-stacking system in Chocobo Racing, but the controls don't quite do it for me. It's totally cool you like it, though.

I love these post, people knock it so bad until they try it lol.

@Stuff.... dang Im must have missed the link but there apparently is quite a difference of the two, thought the video in comparison, the X360 doesnt look too bad itself though, but its missing a good bit of background detail they must have had to cut out for space.

@Sean.... I wasnt impresed with the demo for GT5 at all. Dirt 2, GRID, Need for Speed Shift all seem to be much better racing games.

I don't understand what some people say about the controls - Wikipedia seems to suggest that some reviews for the game were negative because they required players use the D-pad. The game that's sitting on my PS3 HD uses the control stick - the d-pad doesn't work at all.

But yes, I understand that I enjoy the game far more than most people would, and indeed if I was reviewing it, I would only be able to give it an average score. As I said, it's pure fan service, and while I prefer the simple kart racing games, most people have moved on and demand more than what the likes of Super Mario Kart and Chocobo's Racing offer up.

EDIT: Oh, and I remembered something else from this weekend with my PS3. On the Japanese store is a Monkey Ball/ Marble Madness style game that is all about navigating a rubber duck through a "bathtub" maze, rescuing other rubber ducks trapped in bubbles in the process. It's awesome. I only have the demo, but I'm probably going to buy the full game.

Some reviewers thought the game requires use of the D-Pad? That makes no sense...the box and manual clearly state it has analog support! However, the manual ALSO says that the D-Pad works, too. Sounds like your download might have added in a weird bug. Either that, or the Japanese version was programmed differently for no obvious reason.

EDIT: What, Super Rub-a-Dub? Is that not on the European and/or Australian PSN? We've had it available for AGES, but I don't care much for it, personally.

I've never hated it, but I've always wanted a 360 more. Now that I've played both, it's really hard to decide.

Just let it happen.

Yeah, I tried once, and the D-pad doesn't seem to work. Not that it matters, the stick is fine for controlling the karts, imo.

Yes, Super Rub-a-Dub. It's not available in Australia. Didn't realise there was an English translation at all. For a cheap download, I find it very relaxing, very nicely presented and full-featured. It's purely for fans of the labyrinth genre though.

EDIT: Wow, IGN ripped into the ducky game big time. Perhaps the demo is misleading, but the comments the reviewer made about "difficult to control" and such I didn't find to be an issue at all.

[Edited by Bankai]

Stuffgamer1

The demo's not necessarily misleading; I found the game difficult to control just in the demo. Methinks you're just a lot better at this kind of thing than most of us.
