Ugh, don't we have enough SOCOM games already? Or do they really feel they need to recover so quickly from the disaster that was the previous PS3 SOCOM game?

@BB Thrilla: My statement was based upon sales and stated opinions of people who've played the game at my GameStop. Granted, this is not indicative of the entire world by any means, but it's a far cry from the massive success that was expected.

If Zipper drops another great Socom in the reins of Socom 2 and 3 on the PS2 then Im all in. I loved the games, but after 3 it has been a very big downhill slide that Ive cared nothing about, I was hoping for a Sly Cooper, Crash or what would be insanely awesome would be Splashdown 3.

@Adam.... well FFVIII was a big change from VII and there were all kinds of negative vibes on it even after its release and the game was more linear and simply amazing, and still has one of the best opening cinemas today. FFXIII and its linear style is what has me extremely curious about it. Ive got Disgaea 3 on my stack of games for later I dont need another 100+ hr game to add to it, and honestly a linear FF sounds awesome. Im really starting to like these cinematic experiences we are getting on PS3 and open world games just cant do that.

VIII was about a billion times better than VII, imo. Had one or two flaws, but IMO it was the strongest of the PSOne FF.

It's incredibly primitive by today's standards - visually and gameplay - it was the first 3D Final Fantasy game, don't forget.

VIII and IX are both significantly more advanced, and hold up better by today's standards.

Graphics?
I still play NES games. I don't care for Graphics unless its current Gen.

Also,may buy FFXIII too.
Have to say...I've never been more skeptical on a game..

Ok, I'll rephrase - FFVII is a downright ugly game. NES games look primative, but not ugly.

I downloaded FF8 when it came out on PSN. I quit not far in when they started some really wordy tutorial and a bunch of completely unpronounceable names. My patience for that sort of thing is quite limited. I don't understand the need for every new RPG, especially Final Fantasies, to reinvent the wheel with some overly complicated system with all sorts of new terms to learn. One of the great advantages of sequels is you can generally assume most players know how it works from the start.

FF8 does look a bazillion million times better than FF7, though, I'll give it that. Both in polish and in style. I may come back to it someday. I don't see that happening for FF7 though, despite getting quite a lot farther in it.

Yeah, Final Fantasy VIII is a little too complex at first, I agree. Once you get into it, it's one of the easier systems to play with, but the first 4 or 5 hours is a grind.

I don't think I'll ever play FFVII again. It's a grind from start to finish, because the graphics are so hideous. VIII looks simple by today's standards, yes, but it's stylish.

i prefer 7 over 8, 8 is all mission do this do that go here go there help them! 7 is more of help the group, oh no help yourself, save your chick.
and 9 i LOVE. get lost, get kidnaped, discover new areas, find out your newest friend is a clone of a puppet. get a air ship.

I was in college and broke when FF9 dropped and still have yet to play it. Im hoping it sees the light of day on PSN, and Im sure it will. I will then grab it and play through it. Im pretty close to the end of Chrono Trigger now, and after that it will time for another portable RPG as that is how I prefer them.

I dunno if anyone else has the "game," but Linger in Shadows is an awesome experience.

It's cheap, but be warned - it's not really a game, it's an interactive art work, but engaging with it is thoroughly engaging.

Also, if you haven't yet - add me! I'm: monkeybear2001

FF9 is amazing, there is no other one like this and is probably my 2nd favorite rpg of all time. My first being ff7.

@WaltzElf: A lot of people bought Linger In Shadows at release simply because it was the second piece of software to have Trophy support. It's still popular in that regard as it's cheap and the Trophies are easy. All that said, I do also find it to be an enjoyable experience in its own right, and well worth the $3 even for those who don't care about Trophies.

Lengthy review drops perfect score on FFXIII! I read through the whole thing, and I have to say I find it quite encouraging. I would highly recommend people still undecided about the game give it a look.

@Waltz FF7 graphics are old, not ugly. It's steampunk art direction is also the best of any final fantasys so far and the pre-rendered backgrounds look amazing. I'm actually playing it through again right now on my ps3, and there's nothing wrong with it.

[Edited by Firkraag]

There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore

So the pre-rendered backgrounds look amazing, do they? What about the blocky characters? They look worse than NES sprites, IMO. Plus, those backgrounds of yours are a real pain in the butt to navigate, as I believe has already been mentioned. Now, I'm not one to bash a game for its graphics...EXCEPTING that they actually impede gameplay, which those in FFVII do.
