Topic: New Xbox and PS4 to Be Shown at E3

UK games industry outlet MCV has reported that both the next Xbox AND the PlayStation 4 will be shown at this year's E3 in June.

This isn't the first time that a publication has cited an unnamed source with information like this, but this isn't some unknown central European games blog - MCV's credibilty makes this particular report worth paying attention to.

Speaking on Twitter, MCV's online editor Ben Parfitt said "Obviously we can't reveal our sources. But you have my personal word on this - the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level."

We shouldn't necessarily expect a full-blown reveal, though - we might just see the announcement. Editor-in-Chief Michael French told IGN: "This is very credible. Even if we don't see the hardware itself, or know a price or date, key publishers and developers are expecting some nod towards what direction PS4 will take at E3 this year. Sony isn't stupid - it knows that if Microsoft is planning to also say something about its next console, it can't be left behind."

Many were expecting Microsoft to come out on stage at E3 with some information about the new Xbox, but Sony's reveal would be more surprising, as a new console at this stage in the PlayStation 3's life cycle would fly in the face of the company's stated "ten-year plan".

If both Sony and Microsoft do indeed reveal their new consoles at the same time as Nintendo details the release schedule and pricing for the Wii U, this would quite probably be the biggest E3 in history.

I can't see Sony revealing any hardware, but some sort of tease is a little more likely. Hardware from Microsoft is very possible, though the way they're going with things I wouldn't be surprised to see Xbox 3 running Windows 8 and using Kinect 2.0 as much as possible.

Its rumored this week at ces the new xbox will be shown off. Mircosoft has been randomly been putting the word xbox in all of their.tweets about ces and windows 8.

Ielf a xbox does launch this may change all my condole plans.

If I was shortsighted enough to get a PS3 last year I'd be feeling sick right now.

While I would hate for a PS4 (since I just fixed my ps3 haha) I can see why they would need to put it out. Let's be honest. While the PS3 is an awesome system, it has a lot of flaws in the frame rate and graphics department. Witch I've noticed in:

to name a few. Frankly, if your gonna run these games sony, make sure they run without so many flaws. Or unlock those supposed "other 2 cores" for processing power... or whatever lol.

Well considering Sony doesn't want to be late to the party again, they won't wait to release their next system, at least not an entire year. So we could very well see Sony and Microsoft coming out with their successors around the same time.

Can't see it happening. This is the first rumor of next-gensony and they have their hands full with the vita.can't see them wanting to riisk too potential flops so close to each other. That and their biggest game on the horiozon is set for either this year or next year on the PS3.

The Vita has an unprecedented rough start. Now if we consider that the PS4 or whatever it may be called...PS4 I wouldn't doubt, is already in development, then they have to at least show something. Sony can't really afford to be last in the race. There have been other reasons for the PS3 being extremely slow to start, but being behind the XBOX360 certainly helped. They stated, but can't remember where, that they dont' want to be late to the party, so we'll see what happens. This could just mean their system won't be a full year behind....but then again that all depends on what they have cooked up for the PS3.

I know it's dangerous for both systems to release when Vita is their new baby and it's not doing so well....but that's what Nintendo is dealing with now with a recovering 3DS. Sony can do it, and they don't need to be behind in the console race.

I'm sure their E3 will be FILLED with Vita news, but i'm sure we'll here something about their new console, same with XBOX.
Though which will be more prominent? We'll find out....

the gap between the 3ds and the wii U is much bigger than a vita/PS4 gap would. nintendo has the 3ds back on track and isn't taking as big as a loss the vita would.

i fully expect games to he shown for the 720/PS4 but that will be on the back burner in favorof the TV and app styled content like the xbox 360 got late last year.

I hope the Vita does better in NA to be honest.
But the gap between systems is going to be larger. PS4 isn't going to be 2012, I think we know that much, and expect at least 2013 at the earliest possible time.

Yeah the appination () is interesting but expected considering their other products...... But I wonder what Sony will do. Same thing you're thinking? The rumors that Nintendo is doing it seem to be favorable...but that seems to be the trend with electronic entertainment nowadays.

I just don't want Nintendo to be left behind again like they were with the wii (long-run, not short-run). This might actually be Nintendo's last chance to release an appealing console with high performance in both the processing and graphics department with enough to offer in the long-run for developers to stay interested. At least, this year they'll have the 3DS to fall back on and prevent them from going SEGA.

looking at previews of ces the whole making TV better and controlling the entertainment system is the new big thing. google. is pausing google Tv in a big way this year with samsung,Sony,and LG on board. apple is rumored to be revamping the apple Tv. microsoft iscloset with the xbox set up but is limited by hardware. supped up hardware running a version of windows 8for the home could help that.

Well my info is from super mega ultra secret megaman legendary sources that are 3 million percent accurate and they see the new Xbox is gonna be called the Xbox PEW PEW SHOOTERS MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN.

Well, by the time either of these consoles are released all my money will be going into my Wii U and games for my Wii U and 3DS.
I've had both Sony and Microsoft systems in the past, but now that my parents no longer buy my games for me, unfortunately I can only afford to pay for one system per generation and I always have the most fun on Nintendo systems, so it's an easy choice for me before even seeing the other two.

My God are people really this dense? Don't they realize what Sony's 10-year plan really means? It means that when a new console is released, Sony will still support the old console simultaneously.

Example:

• PS2 was released in 2000
• PS3 was released in 2006
• Sony still manufacturers new PS2 systems, but most new software comes from 3rd-parties

PS3 will still be supported for a few years after the PS4 is released. Sony won't drop support the way Microsoft did with the first Xbox, or how Nintendo did with the N64 and GameCube.

If graphics and performance really are everything, then the N64 would have gotten more support than the PS1 and Saturn, the GameCube and Xbox would have gotten more support than the PS2, the Game Gear would have gotten more support than the Game Boy, the PSP would have gotten more support than the DS, etc.

This is the only generation where developers have favored more powerful consoles that had less units sold than the competition (Wii). That's because the Wii is so severely underpowered that developers don't want to be bothered with making games specifically for that system. It's much easier to make a game for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 since those systems are so similar in power. The Wii's low specs don't allow for easy porting of multiplatform games, developers will have to create an entirely separate game from scratch.

this rumor could be talking about xbox live on windows 8 and the writer mos interpreted what was said.
