Insert coin to continue... 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 ...alright, that was close! But you now have less than a week to get in the game and take the top spots from the already active 50 players. Next Friday the fun will be over and this Arcade will shut down.
Here are the second and final clues:
1) In number 10 you have to collect all the dots on the screen, like Pac Man.... only this title came out a whole year earlier! 2) Game 11 is one of the first arcade games with digitised language, where you fight killer robots. Ported to Atari & Vectrex. 3) Picture 13 shows the multiplayer mode of a top down shooter where you get to control a sci-fi soldier to shoot all kinds of fantasy enemies. 4) Title 18 lets you sink submarines, but in colour...not black and white. Did you guys notice that? ^_^
Insert Coin - 1P or 2P - Press Fire to Play! Ah yes, the good old days... but now the round is over, the arcade has closed and there is only one important high score left, which is the one at the end of this post
After the (very niche) Flash Game quiz in May, more people participated again this time (125!), but the focus on the 80s was probably too far in the past for many. Next round will be more accessible, I promise.
Now, let's check out the answers: first the names of the games as text, then the pictures, then the high score.
1) Tempest
A classic from Atari with a very unique look.
Answer rate: 79%
Other suggestions: Asteroids, Star Wars, Battlezone, Doom, Glaxion, Styx
2) Centipede
I never liked this game... everything is so tiny and fast. :/
Answer rate: 86%
Other suggestions: Gauntlet, Snake, Space Invaders
3) 1942
This shmup classic was the easiest title of this round for you. All numbers between 1941 and 1945 gave the point.
Answer rate: 91%
Other suggestions: RAID over Moscow
4) Galaga
I also let the predecessor "Galaxian" pass.
Answer rate: 84%
Other suggestions: Space Invaders, Centipede, Phoenix
5) Gauntlet
Probably the most stressful dungeon crawler of all time, your life energy doubles as your (ticking down) time limit and the enemy hordes spawn endlessly. Oh dear!

Answer rate: 74%
Other suggestions: Grand Prix, Pit Stop, Pitstop 2, F-1, F-Zero, Formula Racing, Gran Premio F1, Turbo

18.) Deep Scan
In 1977, "Depthcharge" came out, also called "Sub Hunter". But that was in dull two-tone blue/black.... What we were looking for here was SEGA's "Deep Scan" from 1979, which was in colour.
Only the Atari 2600 port "Sub Scan" also gave a point. Pretty mean, huh?
Answer rate: 37%
Other suggestions: 8x Depth Charge, 6x Sea Wolf, Battleship, N-Sub, Battlestations, Destroyer, Fleet Commander, Hunter Killer, Silent Service, Submarine, Sub Hunter, Submarine Hunter, U-Boat

Answer rate: 26%
Other suggestions: House of the Dead, Bemani, Bunga, Dragons Lair, hot pinball, Irritating maze, Time Crisis
26) Bonus question
Where does the short clip of the arcade hall from the intro gif come from? See for yourself https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QWEcj7UXFs
The bonus point was not weighted, so it is the "weakest" point of this round.
Answer rate: 27%
Other suggestions: 5x Stranger Things, Terminator 2, The Wizard, Barcade, WarGames, Las Vegas, Galloping Ghost Arcade, Gremlins, Joy Stick Heroes, Leeds, Pixels, Butcheroni's Great Arcade New Orleans 1987, Studio 54, Tapper, The Last Starfighter, Back to the Future
Woohoo! 18pts! I am pleased with that result, especially with this being my first time trying one of these quizzes. I guess being one of the elder NL readers gave me an advantage in this topic. ^_^;
Remember: DON'T SHOOT THE FOOD.
And also, yes, apparently 73% of us don't watch enough TRON.
Switch FC: SW-5760-3019-8223
(player name is Beesh)
My excuse is that I've watched Tron but skipped the bonus question because I was in a hurry to get my answers in, as it was already the day after the deadline in Australia.
In my rush, I also missed a couple of games that I've actually played, although I'm glad to say that Boong-Ga Boong-Ga wasn't one of them. I know the arcade industry fell on desperate times in the early 2000s, but that kind of gameplay seems totally uncalled for!
After some very "gamy" topics that were focused on certain genres, platforms or times, here comes something more random & mixed - birds in video games. So here are 25 pigeons, chickens, geese, seagulls and other fowl.... do you know them all?
For the last two rounds of bonus questions I had hoped for some unexpected similarities among users in flash and arcade games, but unfortunately there weren't any... so now please enjoy two questions about your generation and place of residence, I promise to make a nice graph at the end of the month.
@Mr_Horizon Sorry, but are we guessing the games or is it the names of the characters? Or do we get bonuses for the game followed by the name or the character?
I AM ERROR

Woohoo! 18pts! I am pleased with that result, especially with this being my first time trying one of these quizzes. I guess being one of the elder NL readers gave me an advantage in this topic. ^_^;
Welcome to the quiz!
Fill out this rounds "generations" question and see if you're really that much older than the rest of us?
And also, yes, apparently 73% of us don't watch enough TRON.
In NintendoLife it was even 75%, just you and Bunkerneath recognised Tron. But come on, it's over 40 years old... nobody knows all the classics!.
On the user poll: So far the Millenials are in the majority, with a few Gen X players and a dash of Gen Z. Of course we only have about a quarter of the crowd in, so I'm curious how it'll look in the end. I won't say anything about the nationalities until the final post.
Here are the first clues:
1) Number 11 shows us a well-known DOS fps from the late 90s. 2) Three images in this round are screenshots from the Commodore Amiga. 3) Game 8 is a fun platformer with up to four players simultaneously. 4) Picture 14 shows a "swan" that is so dangerous that it is kept in a special prison.
The answer rates are very balanced between 5% and 100%, and at the moment you don't even need twenty points to end up in the TOP 20.
Here are the final clues:
1) In both #15 and #17 you have to solve crimes. 2) Games #19 and #20 are both sidescroller shmups. 3) There are lots of chickens in this round, but #10 is predominantly about pigeons. 4) Title 18 is a first-person shooter from this decade.
Alle Vögel sind schon da,
alle Vögel, alle.
Welch ein Singen, Musiziern,
Pfeifen, Zwitschern, Tiriliern!
Frühling will nun einmarschiern,
kommt mit Sang und Schalle!
(famous german children's song about birds from 1835)
A total of 130 players from twenty countries came together to correctly name all these feathered creatures... but only FOUR of them actually succeeded, which was mainly due to the very difficult number 24.
But I had promised graphics for the bonus question, so now first the composition of the nationalities:
Well, what do you know, 50% Germany! How come, maybe more than half of the participating forums are in German?
The countries (and players) under "Other" are as follows: Canada(4), Italy(3), Switzerland(3), Australia, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Sweden.
And what about the generation question?
Two-thirds of you are Millenials, so somewhere between 27 and 42 years old... plus a good quarter of Gen X, a handful of Gen Z younglings and one percentage point of Baby Boomers. No matter what your age is, I'm glad you're here!
Now we continue with the results: first the names of the games as text, then the pictures, then the high score.

Ah, I have the Labo VR kit but not the bird add-on. I feel like I should have recognised the art style, but then it's not exactly very distinctive. Oh well, I did alright on this quiz overall!
Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music
