Hi! I just found this thread.
I have a noob question... Is there another Mega Man game where you can revisit stages?
For example, in the first Mega Man for the NES, I always liked how the stages can be replayed. You can use the Gutsman ability not just in Elecman, but also to attack Cutman. But in Cutman's stage, next to the 2nd grey shed that shoots out cut blades, there's an area to the left up high that looks like it could lead somewhere. Like maybe after getting the Magnet thing, you could get up there and...y'know?
It doesn't look like this was explored further in future games. Maybe for good reason. Thoughts?
@larrythumbs In terms of the Classic series, I believe 2 is the only one that doesn’t allow you to revisit any completed stages. 5-8 also put a lot more emphasis on exploration, hiding upgrades and weapons for you to find.
@larrythumbs If you really wanna collect upgrades and stuff, the X series has different armor in each game to collect! Though some are a lot easier than others... (Lookin' at YOU, X1 Buster Upgrade!)

I will Net Battle people on Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection. :)
@larrythumbs@StewdaMegaManNerd I'll also add that Mega Man 3 doesn't let you revisit finished stages either. I still remember that. Most of the Mega Man games let you replay stages, just not MM2 and 3 going off the top of my head.

@larrythumbs To add on this topic, the Mega Man ZX are actually metroidvanias, so there is revisiting and exploreling areas involved. Not much REAL emphasis on revisiting areas, but it worth mentioning.
The Zero series also lets you revisit areas, with some hidden upgrades and items (especially in 2&3). If fact, the way the Zero 1 works, the more levels you play, you actually can access those areas in the hub world for a free-roam experience. It's pretty neat.
I personally love the Zero games. They're my favorite in terms of format and playstyle. I love the original ZX too, but I don't remember liking Advent as much. The Zero/ZX Legacy Collection is definitely worth checking out and playing.

@Anakin They might leave a bad taste in your mouth at first, but stick with them for a bit and they should become much more tolerable. Z1/2 and ZX are pretty rough around the edges, but the other games are great.
@Anakin Yep, that’s definitely the best way to start. Also, the stories can definitely be a little wonky, partially due to development issues, with the writers having to sometimes make big changes in order to cope with Capcom.

Can I ask about Megaman X1 - X8 from Legacy Collection?
I'm not familiar with these series as I have never played before.
I started playing Megaman from Megaman 11 on PS4 with Newcomer difficulty as I don't like playing too hard games and even Newcomer difficulty still pretty hard for me in term of exploring the stages.
I played Gravity Circuit too, I almost finished the game but I realized I need to upgrade my health bar and my Energy bar to defeat the Final Boss. Gravity Circuit was really hard too in term of exploring the stages, but the boss were fairly easier to handle.
Back to my question about Megaman X1 - X8, I heard the game have limited amount of multiple lives like old fashioned Mario games so if you run out of your lives, it will be Game Over.
But I saw X8 and other X series didn't have multiple lives so i assumed I can keep trying whenever I lost all my HP bar.
Which X series recommended for newbie player like me?
Which X series that have no limited amount of lives?
And what about ZX series on Legacy collection?
Are those series easy enough for newbie player?
@Anti-Matter The first three Mega Man X games as well as X8 have limited lives, and you are forced to replay the entire level if you get a game over. In X4, each stage has a midpoint halfway through the stage that allows you to continue from there instead of the beginning if you get a game over. In Mega Man X5-7, losing a life/getting a game over simply takes you back to the last checkpoint. X4 is probably the best place to start, though. As for ZX, it kind of depends on your stance with Metroidvanias. The first ZX game can be pretty tough at first, but once you pick up some upgrades, it gets pretty easy. Navigation is awful though, due to the terrible map, and getting a game over will reset you to the last save state (I’d turn on the save states provided by the LC version, which will appear throughout the level and save you a great deal of time). ZXA, overall, is harder than ZX but is more fair, and there are multiple save states/transfer points throughout the levels that you can activate using the in-game currency (e-crystals). Navigation is also much easier, thanks to the improved map and increases amount of transfer points. If you’re familiar with the Zero series, the ZX series is basically that but with Battle Network/Star Force elements thrown in.
@StewdaMegaManNerd
Gosh...
Still sounds pretty hard games.
Thanks for the feedback.
I think I will stick on Gravity Circuit, Megaman 11 and probably Mighty no 9.
@NeonPizza So I have been thinking of picking up Mega Man 7 cartridge for SNES, yeah I am still on a retro kick, and honestly I never played it except in the Anniversary collection with flipped buttons. I know alot of people don't like it compared to Mega Man X but as a classic Mega Man how does it rank amoung the first six? Always been curious about playing it on an actual console. I also want to try Mega Man & Bass but YIKES those prices 😬. I might see if I can get a repro. Kinda wish I had the Gameboy Advance adapter for the GameCube then I could play the GBA version but finding one of those and a working GameCube is just as bad.
Anyway just some random retro thoughts

@Tasuki Mega Man 7 is a interesting one. People either it for it's design and content, or thet don't like it as much because of stuff like how the game feels to play (something just seemed a little off when I played it, but that was years ago). Or that's what I figure, at least, tell me if I'm missing more to the story.
One thing is agreed one, however. Wily Capsule 7 is.... hard. Very hard. If you're going to play it, good luck on that boss 🫡.
Edit: As for Mega Man and Bass, that game is mostly remembered for it's tough difficulty. It's not all bad, but if you're going to play that game, play as Bass first. It's easier that way, and Bass is fun to play.
Also, people don't like the screen crunch on the GBA version, but in my opinion it's not that bad to play. Especially if you're used to the Gameboy Mega Man games. The Snes (Super Famicom) version does look better, tho.
@konicstar Yeah I played it a few times on the GameCube Anniversary collection but had a hard time with it and other classic Mega Man games due to the swapping of the A and B button functions. That's why I want to try it on SNES how it was originally intended to make my fair opinion on it.
