@Anti-Matter Okay so I think that Mega Man X7 is the best game because you can have TWO DUDES on one mission and unlimited lives! : D

So just reposting my comment to restart the conversation
X7 trend chased too much. It copied a lot of what was popular at the time (like Axel who is an obvious product of the hot shot teenager type) and did so when a lot of those trends were getting stale. So I do agree it gets too much hate. But I also understand it.
@Metazoxan if Capcom was cool they’d include the Legends 3 Prototype in there.
I also thought about just making it a 3D Collection, with the Legends series headlining, but also include games like Battle & Chase, Network Transmission, Command Mission, etc
@Metazoxan I think that if Axl had been introduced in a game that was more well-received, he would definitely have been more popular.

the 3D collection idea is actually really good. I was wondering how they might re-release the kinda offbrand 3D games that weren't part of a larger series. This would put more meat into a collection including the Legends games and make it easier for Capcom to do so without NEEDING to make Legends 3.
If they released a collection with only legends 1 and 2 people would get rightfully upset. But part of a 3D collection, people might still want legends 3. But the collection will have enough value to be a sellable product without it.

Probably. As much as he is a product of his era to a fault (his personality can be boiled down to young, hotshot teenager) there isn't anything specifically wrong with him. Even his combat style stands out enough as Megaman is a single arm canon and Zero is a sword. dual pistols is good enough.
But if I was to make a criticism, it's that Axel's weapons should have been dual gunblades. Like Haseo's Xth form from .hack.
Because while his weapons stand out the fact he's basically a pure ranged character kinda feels unbalanced when placed alongside Megaman and Zero.
Also gunblades are just cool so they'd have helped with his appeal more.
Basically something more like "Model ZX" from those games would have probably worked better. Again not saying Axel is bad, but that extra bit of spice would have probably made more people gravitate to him.
Another idea that would have taken more work would have been give axel a morphing weapon so the weapon he holds in his hands actually changed based on the boss power he's using. They put too many limits on his boss transformation (which funnily enough ZX-A actually did a lot better) so something like this would have been closer to that but also been easier to balance.
or do both and give him weapon transformation, but his default is dual gunblades instead of dual pistols.
Again I still like Axel overall, but even putting his failed first game aside, I get the feeling he just lacked impact. In order to apeal to more thana small minority of fans, he needed something more to stand out when placed next to Icons like Megaman and Zero.
What do you think? What would you have added to give him more impact?
I'm a big enough Legends fans that I'd hope we'd get all the deep cuts. Including the MML2 demo that's actually an original scenario. And the Japan only mobile game. And even Megaman 64.
Not sure about the PSP ports but they do apparently fix the dumbest part of 2. Regardless I do feel like the three games of the series are substantial enough that they don't necessarily need to be as big a collection as the others. Your average Megaman game outside of the RPGs are pretty short, while all of these are almost of comparable length to Zelda games of the same era.
I am very intrigued as to both when the Legends collection will happen (it’s almost guaranteed at this point) and how it will be handled. Including both the original versions and remastered versions as well would be amazing, but I’d be content with just getting them with improved controls (I’ve heard horror stories about them) and some substantial extras. As cool as it would be to get The Misadventures of Tron Bonne thrown in there, I still wouldn’t count on it considering it’s a spin off and none of the other collections included spin offs or even mainline side games (like the World games and Mega Man and Bass in the Classic collections or the Xtreme games in the X collections).
@StewdaMegaManNerd I'd be shocked if Tron Bonne isn't included. It's a spinoff but its close enough in style and a large enough game and other Megaman series can avoid spinoffs because there are so many game already. There's only two mainline MML games, it'd be silly not to include it.
I think that, if Capcom does make a 3D collection, then it should have the following: Mega Man Legends 1 and 2, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, Mega Man X: Command Mission, and Mega Man Battle and Chase. (I don't know if there are any other 3D games.)

There are 2.5D games like Powered Up, Network Transmission and Maverick Hunter X, if those count
@Megas75 eh ... just lump them in with the 3D games if anything since they at least look 3D. That being said I kinda doubt Capcom will bother with those.
It does take some effort to make these re-releases compatable on modern hardware and run properly so there need to be at least some money in it for them and the 2.5D games are arlmost all, if not all, obscure spin offs that weren't very popular.
I even remember Network transmission as the first game I ever returned to the store as a kid. I just found it too hard to have fun. I'm not saying no one likes those games but ... like Network transmission would have been packaged with the battle network games if they were going to do anything with it. It may be 2.5D but it's still part of that series.

Very excited to see Mega Man 12 coming out (Yes I am calling it that cause that's what it's. They dont need some fancy subtitle just because). I am not sure what kind of gimmick this one will have but I am more interested on how Mega Man feels when controlled. Something just felt off with his movement in 11 compared to the classic Mega Mans. I still beat it a few years ago but one play through was enough for me. Will definitely be picking up MM 12 when it comes out either way.
