Back before I found this site, I always thought IGN was the best source for game reviews and other things. That........ was a very long time ago.
As far as Wiiware goes, they've given amazing games horribly low scores (Onslaught, Madstone) and shovelware great scores (Mixed Messages, Platchen, don't worry about replying, I've got you covered)

What's your opinion on IGN?
That's why you're still a kid. ADD ME ON PSN: xnintendorkx Youtube account: xNintendorkx
IGN “CAN” be accurate some of the time. The main reason I go to that site is to complain on how low of scores they give good wii games... well there and Gameinformer. IGN is “BIG” so they get videos and news before a lot of sites which is why I go there.
I hated how they gave Sonic and the Black Knight a 3.9/10 which in my opinion is criminally low! And turn around and give Madworld a 9. I don`t know bout IGN thats why I quit going there
If the question is what do we think of IGN's reviews and ratings, I'd have to say I think the same about their ratings as anyone else's: I really don't care. Their reviews are generally poorly written: lots of grammatical and spelling mistakes, stupid cliche openings, and usually too many pages.
That said, I don't really trust reviews in general. The ones on this site are better than most, but it's the concept that I don't care for. I come here to keep up with news and see what people in general think of certain games, and this whole site is very community-centric, so I have no need to go elsewhere. Every single page has a comments section, and that's what I care most about -- not to knock the reviewers' opinions, but why stop at one opinion when you can have a hundred?
Which leads me to perhaps the most important distinction: The users who comment on IGN pages are almost exclusively imbeciles, which is quite the opposite of this site. The comments are sometimes good for a laugh though.

Even if you don't like Plattchen, you can't say that it was shovelware, since a lot of time and effort went into the making of the game. "The metaphor implies that the creators showed little care for the original software, as if the new compilation or version had been indiscriminately created/ported with a shovel, without any care shown for the condition of the software on the newly created product." And that doesn't fit Plattchen at all.
Also: ign is rubbish yeah, and I'm happy that I got quoted without saying anything in the same thread! Yay, me!
I mostly enjoy listening to Game Scoop, but I really don't bother with the website, and I just loathe Matt Cass-whatever from Wii IGN: the king of Wii-tards.
So yeah, NintendoLife is pretty much my favorite overall Wii website now thanks to the merging with VC-Reviews and Wii-Ware World which were my favorite overall Wii websites before.
They did a good job on ps2 reviews but when i switch to wii and xbox 360 reviews they were just terrible reviews maybe one or two i agree with but thats it. worst game reviewers, matt casamassina and hilary goldstien
Ha, I look up to see one tab for Nintendo Life, and another for IGN.
Yes I have followed IGN since the early N64 days. They have provided years of information for me and some excellent E3 orgies (the 1st time I live-streamed was sooo exciting). I still use them daily and probably always will. But, of late, I have felt the quality slip as mine and the reviewers opinions grow increasingly apart. Now they are responsible for iphone reviews too?! Doesn't bode well for the future me thinks.
Nintendo Life is now my 1st stop for Ninty but will still head to IGN for PC, TV etc...
nintendo life is my #1 site for nintendo info i luv this website glad i found it but i also check out ign wat i usually do is avg scores 2gether n thats what i base the games on
Looking back to yesteryear, I was always a fan of IGN - they had everything under their roof. Nowadays though, I find I very rarely even skim their articles. I think in many ways IGN ramble on a bit too much - reviews over one page long disinterest me, and IGN are full of them. Personally, I believe 1,000 is the limit on how many words to sum a game up in; if someone can't tell whether or not they are interested in a game within a decent amount of words, then something has gone wrong.
I certainly agree with the posts highlighting a sites community base as the main appeal for coming back - opinions should be discussed and the users should have a chance to have a decent impact on the site. I suppose that this is what first drew me to Gamecube-UK.com (the grandfather of Nintendo Life from about 9 years ago), and ever since I've not considered switching allegiance. This month has been exceptionally fantastic to see the community flourish, and I really do feel that there is a matureness here in the userbase that doesn't seem to be as present on IGN (then again, I would say that, I work here!)
That being said, I do think IGN is one of the best gathering loads of content into one place, and they have done some exceptional work in the past - work that I strive towards emulating.
Also, it's nice to hear positive feedback about our content - and, believe me, we take it on-board.
Ign is best for previews seeing as though they get early access to games. But I don't really care for their opinions, and the comments are a complete waste of time.
IGN is alright, I don't put much stock in reviews for new games (although if a DS game does well I'll probably check around to see if it's getting lots of good scores). If I'm buying older used games I'll usually check the if they're good at IGN though. They have a lot of news and such though. I agree with Tony that the Retro section is cool. I love the Pokemon Report. I agree with Adam about how a lot of the comments on IGN are by morons though.
I have to agree with adam. Ign scores dont matter much, and most (not all) of the people on there are insults to grammar and human intelligence. I don't even bother reading the comments anymore unless I feel like hearing "omg how can u give it a scre lk tht! this iz teh best game evr!!!!11"
Wii : 5234 3442 0233 5325 3DS: 2664-2106-1671 I have A LOT of games, if you want to play something, just email me jangonov...
Don't forget, all reviews ever written are from the reviewers point of view and everyone taste are different. Which is why if I like the look of a game and read a good review, I try as many sites as possible to see their views then judge it that way.
I could never go out and buy a game on one persons opinion. I think at the end of all reviews, it should say what the reviewers favourite genres are, if they hate RPG's but review an RPG game and it says it's good, then it probably will be

I think you couldn't have said anymore better than anyone else... but that's my opinion! I mean COME ON... any IGN HATERS out there should know that they have to LOATHE Matt-FREAKING-Cass-whatever!!! I think someone needs to do IGN a favor & FIRE or KILL that poor excuse of a MAN!!!!!!!!!!!
IGN is rather biased in some areas, for the most part, similar to GameInformer, the publication we are forced to receive if we buy a discount card. It seems that IGN goes with the flow and popular belief on most areas. A good example, when Rygar was released, all be it a port, IGN spouted off and declared the Wii no more than a glorifed PS2. When in reality, not only the initial specs surpass the PS2, but if you look deeper, you will see it. Take a look at my blog(there's not much there), http://danbradley.net/?p=90. As with most of the media, the Wii and DSi/DSlite/DS does not conform to the mold, so it is the outcast. Myself, I will go to IGN for release dates and screen shots. I rarely use their reviews and ratings due to the fact they are jaded. I am now really enjoying this site and have found myself browsing this site first among the all.
IGN are very critical about all their reviews. There are some games that gain 90% in some sites and IGN score 40%. I think they get worked up about such minor issues like, a slightly restrictive camera and therefore jeopardisese the games overall score with a minor issue.
If the question is what do we think of IGN's reviews and ratings, I'd have to say I think the same about their ratings as anyone else's: I really don't care. Their reviews are generally poorly written: lots of grammatical and spelling mistakes, stupid cliche openings, and usually too many pages.

I couldn't agree more.
Also, on the issue of badly written reviews by IGN and many other gaming publications: why does anyone put up with that? I'm probably somewhat anachronistic with regards to these matters, but I don't want to read reviews by people who haven't proven themselves to be professional writers of a caliber appropriate to any major newspaper or serious publication. I don't care to waste my time reading through a review by an IGN staffer whose only qualification is understanding and catering to the preferences of a certain "hardcore" demographic. I want intelligent writers with polish, real education, insightful analysis, and who have been around long enough to have a broad historical view of the history of the medium of gaming. I also want them to understand that gaming software can be enjoyed in countless different contexts, only a small subset of which will appeal to the self-professed "hardcore", but that does not make them somehow simplistic or merely casual. I suppose that's too much to ask.
Anyhow, IGN represents much of what I find particularly problematic about the "culture" of gamers and how it has devolved over the years.

Well anyway, I go here for Wiiware, DSiware, and VC reviews. And I go to IGN for Wii and DS reviews. I Agree there are some bad reviews on there(SatBK and MKWii-AU for some), but then again there are some bad reviews here (Not going to say which.)
