A thread to talk about Half-Life, its sequels, expansions, The Orange Box, and Portal. I apologize if there is a thread on this already, but I searched and didn't find one.
I'm a big fan of HL2, thanks to The Orange Box. I like how the story and universe is continually expanded as the story goes on. The story in HL is not that impressive though, lol.
Personally, I can't wait for HL2: Episode 3 and/or HL3. If HL3 expands/improves on HL2 to the degree that HL2 did on the first title, it will be one of the greatest games ever. Hopefully, Vavle will finally say something after Portal 2 is out. (I also like how Portal fits into the storyline, although it is often less serious, though that is what makes it so engaging.)

Oh ya, there is also a lot of awesome free mods for it too!
Yeah, there is. My favorite was Zombie Panic! Source, which to me, was basically taken by Valve and made into the somewhat shallow but extremely fun L4D series.

I still think the Source engine looks great, especially in bright environments. I just love the look of CSS and HL2. The physics are also top notch, and it all runs so smoothly. The exception being TF2 and LFD. My tiny computer can't handle it lol
Sean Aaron ~ "The secret is out: I'm really an American cat-girl." Q: How many physicists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.
For the HL2 fans, you should check out Synergy: http://steamcommunity.com/games/synergy It's a mod which allows cooperative multiplayer through HL2 single player campaigns, including the main story campaign.
@Link-Hero: I can also run all HL games and Portal on high on my laptop. TF2 and LFD are not HL, HL2, CSS, Portal, or DoDS...

I thought Episode 1 was awesome; it was short, but fun at the same time. It also introduced Zombines (I think). I honestly didn't think Episode 2 was all that great though... I just never really got into the vehicle controls, they felt pretty loose, although they would make for a sick racing game in a multi-player thing. They feel like an off-road vehicle and it's awesome. I just didn't really enjoy it for the semi-linear progress across the country-side. Chase scenes feel perfect though. Also, final battler wasn't very fun to me, I kept having problems with the devices sticking and just falling off. It was kind of strange... Also, it was much more difficult until I figured out you could just run the Hunters over

I was never a fan of Valve (Lord Kill me now ) but I do like screwing around in GMod. It is very enjoyable having Starfox beat down Mario with Pikmin with Rag Doll Physics. (Those are some downloadable add-ons.)

I have not quite beaten HL 1 but its definately an above-average shooter but I don't really feel like it has much atmosphere or story, just nice level design.
HL2 on the other hand, I feel the other way (plus still awesoem level/gameplay design.)

I think that they both have atmosphere, just different types.

I'm currently playing Half-Life 2 (Orange Box for 360) and I'm enjoying it. Had to play for 2 hours today just to catch up to this "objection" guy in Backloggery.
I'm definitely looking forward to Portal 2 and Episode Three specially the former.

Quick update, I didn't realize how close I was to the game, but I'm in the final chapter now. And I gotta say, the GG2 is as awesome as I remember. It makes the whole game worth playing, even though it already was. Seriously, this upgrade is a JOY. Enjoy it while it lasts, its not in the episodes, IIRC.

Yeah, the super gravity gun was probably one of the most fun sequences in video game history. Apparently some people found that part where you have to use it to repel falling debris on that lift, but I had no problem. The one thing that kind of annoyed me was that when you attracted the enemies to you, they instantly died. I kind of wish that they would die when you shot them, but it would have been cool to see them panicking helplessly in front of you; then you send them across the room at some other guys. Also, the ending cut scene was mind blowing.

Yep. I did but I checked your BL status and you're 1-2 chapters ahead of me again. Still at AntiCitizen One. I'll probably beat it sometime next week but I won't be playing Episode One nor Two. I have to make room for other stuff.
Beat it tonight. I'll wait to go through episode 1(again) when you and irken are ready.
