Topic: Games you went back and beat after a long hiatus

This week I beat 3 games that I stopped playing a while ago: Goldeneye Wii, Spirit Tracks, and Minish Cap. The funny thing is I was at the very end of all three of those games and then stopped playing. I thought Spirit Tracks had a pretty good ending and I literally put off beating the final boss in Minish Cap for years, but good news, Vaati is finally vanquished. lol. I also came back much later to beat Majora's Mask back in the day, but that was because I was so stuck in the Stone Tower.

What games have you stopped playing for a while, only to go back and beat later?

I mostly do this with Final Fantasy games.
Took me four years to beat Final Fantasy XII

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

good topic.

The original Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean. Went back like 4 years after I started and beat it. I think I left like 2 years between getting to level 30 or so in FF XII and beating it. And just recently I finished my Dragon Warrior 4 file that I started back in 1996...but I've beaten that game before in several incarnations. I think I left a year between first-half and completion on Bioshock as well... and each time it was one play session . Too many games, too little time, too many distractions...

Now it's unbalanced...

I've fallen out of Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time, simply because they're VC games and it's easier to forget to play them. I've not played Wario Land : The Shake Dimension for a bit and I think buying Overkill did that

Some games are definitely harder to pick back up, though. When you drop out of a Zelda game part-way through, it's sometimes easier just to start again!

Misfortune subdues small minds.

I do this a lot with games that have a lot of side quest content. Like Final Fantasy games, or Red Dead Redemption, or Fallout. I'll usually beat the game, then go back in much later to the "before the boss" save and kill all the side quest stuff.

I have a lot of games that fall under this category, but Pac-Man World 2 is my biggest example. It took me 7 years to beat.

I got it in January 2004, got to the Waterland, then my GCN memory card corrupted on itself. I didn't feel like going through all that pain again, so I gave it to my cousins in December 2005.
Fast-forward to January 2010. I saw a copy of Pac-Man World 2 at a Gamestop for $4, and I realized I never got to beat that game. I bought it and got to the Lavaland, where I got completely stuck on one level. I forgot about it, but then on a day in April of this year, I found it again and decided I needed to beat this. Sure enough, two weeks later, I was finally able to reach my childhood goal.

Tomb Raider: Underworld......I had to start the game a couple of times, because of "bugs"....later on,and with enough save files, stuck again....i gave up.

The most recent one in my memory is Zack & Wiki. I think I bought the game in 2008 and I never finished it until about a few weeks ago.

Super Metroid and Super Mario Galaxy.

Honestly though, most games I don't beat within a month of getting them.

The next game I'm going to go back and beat is Link's Awakening, but I'm definitely starting that game over since I haven't played it in over a decade.

With all the games I get (mostly download, some physical copies), I seem to do this with like every other game I get. For instance, I downloaded two or three things recently on eShop recently, telling myself "I'll play them after I'm finished with OoT 3D". I do this every time. Whether this is the case or not, or I come back to them 2 years from now, I dunno LOL.

Sad thing is there are only so many hours in the day. Then some of those are taken up sleeping, some with work/responsibilities/other random crap. So, games I've not finished have built up. I'd be embarrassed, and may have to relenquish claim on my Hardcore Gamer ID card if I admitted some I haven't beat but owned forever.

I made another thread like this that's... somewhere, about what's the longest you've owned a game before finishing it.

Pretty much every Zelda game I've played through.

I usually start out strong, then I get stuck somewhere and give up or get distracted. A couple months (years) later, I pick up where I left off with little memory of what I was doing or where I was going. So then I just screw around, maybe terrorize some chickens, and then I'm done for the day.

This is why it takes me so long to beat these damn games.

.... or something like that.

Nice topic.

There are several games that I beat months after taking a break. Okami, I bought in fall of 2009. I stopped after getting stuck and didn't continue 'til the fall of 2010. Then I FINALLY beat it in February of this year. This is the most extreme case that comes to mind, but it's happened quite often, especially with 2nd playthroughs. I am HORRIBLE at sticking with 2nd playthroughs.

There are a bunch of games that I have long since stopped playing that remain unfinished to this day, including:

  • Metroid Prime 3 (Stopped near the end, was searching for the last energy cell)
  • Paper Mario (Also near the end, in Bowser's Castle)
  • GoldenEye Wii (Never beat campaign, but only had a few levels left)
  • Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker (Couldn't get past the first boss lol)
  • Patapon 2 (Couldn't get past the cloud mission)

Just check my backloggery. This is the main reason why I started one.

I do this with a lot of games due to time constraints, but the one that I remember the most is Tales of Symphonia. I got this game originally when I bought my Gamecube. I played the game up until one of the ranches where I got stuck at a boss. I put the game down for about six months. Then during winter break I got bored and picked it up again. I then played it and got hooked on it.

TheDarkDee

Rock Band. Took me and my friends forever to beat it.
