Anyone here know where people could find good, safe, and fun freeware PC games? I've been playing games like Cave Story and Torus Trooper, but I'd like to play more.

Good ones are hard to find

I was looking for 3D adventure/action/hack'n slash games, but these sites work well too

Nintendork

Well, if FPS are your thing, you could try these:

Openarena
Alien Arena
Tremulous

Wormux is good fun, too.

Oh yeah, and http://www.reloaded.org/index.php should help, too.

That's why you're still a kid.

I thought about it but don't you need to make an account to download?

And do they have any other free games from Steam?

I doubt you'll find much 3D hack n slash if any. Most freeware games are 2D, and all the best are 2D.

If you want 2D games, anything by Cactus or Matt Thorson comes highly recommended. I also greatly enjoyed Eternal Daughter (scroll down to find it), though it unfortunately does not work well on my computer so I never finished it. It's a difficult, Metroid-ish game.

@Adam Wow, that Cactus site is interesting

And yes, I know my choice of genre isn't popular among freeware games

I love Tower of Heaven. Not nearly as hard as people made it out to be, but it was challenging enough to be interesting. I never did find the first secret though, only the second.

Knytt Stories is brilliant. As are the rest of Nifflas' games.

Also, Noitu Love is decent and free. Noitu Love 2 you have to pay for, but it's made of condensed brilliance and it's not expensive. There's a decent-sized demo, check it out.

I have heard of Iji many times but never dove into it. I can't remember if I tried it and it wouldn't run (my computer sucks) or if I just didn't try it. I'll have to look into it when I get home.

And yes, Knytt is brilliant, as is its sister game Seiklus. I wish there were more games like that, just basic platforming, few (if any) hazards, entertaining almost solely by atmosphere.

As for Noitu Love 2, I only played a demo. It was all right. Seemed a bit mindless, but that could just be the demo. I played a Zelda-based game the same guy made, and that was awesome. It's a shame he didn't make a full game around that, though I can understand not wanting to delve too much into fan games, especially when he's trying to make money off his creations now.

Loaded fine for me, and was quite fun for the two minutes I had to play it. Thanks for the link.
