Huh I never get motion sickness from playing games. I do get a bit nauseous from riding rides at parks but never games. Though my eyes do ache a bit when looking at a screen too long. Although I don’t know if VR will give me motion sickness since I don’t own any VR things.
I get motion sickness myself gaming and it's so frustrating.
I used to think it was just FPS games but now it varies, I have played GTAV for hours and hours (on 3rd person view) felt fine. Played The Last Of Us and was feeling sick but managed to get used to it and got passed it to complete it.
Watchdogs I bought and that was making me sick, I always put it down to looking around rooms having to look for items, I bought Alan Wake a while ago thinking I would be fine after watching a 10 minute gameplay video on Youtube but sadly when I bought the game I felt sick after a bit of gameplay.
I've been playing Metroid a lot at the moment on GBA and Dread on switch with no issues but I worry if I get Prime Remastered that it would make me sick.
I read a comment on reddit and someone had said if you put a fan in front of your face and turn it on that helps, not sure if it was a genuine solution or a joke.
I'm not sure what it is about GTAV compared to Alan Wake? Perhaps because GTAV is a bit of a bright game where as Alan Wake is dark.
It's so disappointing when you buy a game and then can't play it because of the motion sickness.
I never got motion sickness but today I entered the world of VR and it got me. I made the mistake of playing Half-Life 2 as my first game and I felt nauseous. After that I learned that most people get that and there are ways to accommodate yourself
First, I started to use the teleport movement instead of floating as it really helps, because my body is not moving but my eyes say to my brain that it is moving. And that is why I get motion sick!
I got myself some ginger chew sweets for extra help
But other than that, it is FREAKING UNBELIVABLE!!!
I don’t have proper depth perception and gaming makes that worse lol so in general I don’t play a lot of First Person Games. Fantasy games like TES or Fallout are slow enough that I don’t feel the effect but smoother games like Mirrors Edge tear my stomach up. Especially if I play with headphones as my brain sorta forgets it isn’t real. I don’t like games where you have traversal that requires you to hang over chasms as well. (Bioshock infinite) I do get disoriented in FPS games (part of why I don’t like them) but not enough to make me sick.

@cwong15 Have you seen an ENT about this? If you could before but cant now possibly there has been a change to your labyrinth.
I had labyrinthitis last year and since then I’m not great with this either. A remedy is drinking ginger tea (raw ginger diced up in hot water) this isnt an alternative medicine thing like strapping onions to your feet, it’s the real deal.
I didn't know I did until I played Oculus VR headset, I was fine for the most part but then I played a game where your character moved along a roller coaster track. It made me feel pretty sick and took a good 15 minutes after to feel right again. Never had it playing any other games before that.
I'm another who cannot play first person games without feeling ill. I also have some depth perception quirks.
When my kids were little, they'd play Mario Kart on the early consoles using split screen. It would make me throw up. Literally. Another thing that really bothers me is when a You Tube gamer plays around with the sticks and makes the camera jump around. Instant headache and nausea.
I could not comfortably play PS 1 games, either. Must have been the frame rate or something because I didn't have the problem with PS 2.
First person games (split screen multiplayer wasn't always bad, but single player ugh), & a good chunk of the N64 era 3rd person 3D games all made me feel ill.
Not sure if it was the game itself or the constant looking up & down from the screen & my WiiU pad, but I had to trade in Star Fox Zero days after I got it due to dizzy spells & sweating.
Didn't fare much better with LoZ: Twilight Princess HD. Think I got about as far as just getting the horse when I just put the game down & never picked it up again.
