False dichotomous arguments aside, I think it's possible that one of the delays in the development of YouTube for the Switch are attempts to make a secure app that can't be exploited via a tubehax or browserhax. The Switch's facebook web applet is already an entrypoint so Nintendo might be setting up a kitchen sink patch like the 3DS's retroactive 10.3.
Maybe we'll see a YouTube app soon since the 5.0.0 update has released.
The arguments that this should only be a gaming console are silly.
You make it sound like a lot of people are saying this, but to whom are you referring? There's only one person in this thread suggesting this, litterally from a personal viewpoint. All the others only say it's no must-have; they (actually we) wouldn't mind if it shows up though...
@toiletduck it’s been said in past threads about YouTube, Netflix, Twitch and so on. This isn’t the first thread to ever bring the topic up. I’ll admit I didn’t read every comment because this has all been talked about before. Other app ideas have been thrown out there and the argument that the Switch is for games always comes up.
Unfortunately Switch lacks the physical hardware that enables Google to transmit fake news whilst simultaneously harvesting your ‘soul’ (don’t worry they won’t be able to harvest your actual soul until USB 4.0 and wireless soul harvesting is still at least 2-3 years away - ‘soul’ is just Google’s internal term for ‘user data’). It’s the same piece of hardware that handles Bluetooth headphones.
Without this hardware YouTube is impossible. Sorry.

As has been pointed out in other threads Nintendo is doing their best to make this a strong gaming console first and worrying about entertainment apps after. Hulu's CEO stated this that they would have had Hulu on Switch at launch if it weren't for Nintendo. They claimed it seems like a political stance in a way. They also had to wait on Nintendo to give them access to the code necessary for them to play their format.

I expect it to come in 4 months i.e. when Switch Online launches (also I would very much like to play DuckTales on Switch - NINTENDO make it happen please).
While I do have a dozen or so devices at home that I can watch YouTube on, I still think it is an oversight that nintendo needs to correct. Even though it's a gaming console there are some things that should be expected/standard on a device coming out in 2017 and imo YouTube is one of them. Hopefully it comes soon for those that really want it in their switch
