I've ended up with two copies of Baten Kaitos I & II after getting fed up waiting for an online order that got delayed, buying it at my local GAME store, then forgetting to cancel my original order, which has now been fulfilled.

So I went back to GAME and exchanged one copy of Baten Kaitos I & II for a copy of Sonic Frontiers and some store credit on a gift card.

Got back home and only then looked up Sonic Frontiers prices online and found it a whole £3 cheaper online, so now I'm thinking about trekking back to GAME to exchange their copy of Sonic Frontiers for something else!

FML.

I actually enjoyed MGS1 on the switch. Bought it with my gold points and played through the story.

@ZeldaFan83 it's a game I lightly played when I was about 10 at a neighbors and that's about it. I'm looking forward to it.

Dragon Quest Builders 2. It's on sale on the Switch eShop right now, but other retailers caught wind and also discounted the digital version. I bought it through GameStop and will redeem it once the sale is over for max gold coins. I played and finished the jumbo demo this past summer and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)

Lot of stuff to get through (and I do mean A LOT) so let's start from the top!

Baten Kaitos 1&2 HD Remaster (€35): If you've been following my forum activity for the past while, you may be aware of the fact that I plan on properly tackling RPGs as a whole as my gaming focus for next year. The only ones I've played so far have been Pokemon, the Mario RPGs and a couple of other standalone titles like Miitopia and Octopath and I think next year is finally the time I step outside of my comfort zone and try out some more traditional/critically-acclaimed titles in the genre. I'll of course be getting Paper Mario TTYD on release next year but also decided to pick up the Baten Kaitos HD collection during this sale as well; not only is it a beloved RPG series with a great reputation and massive pedigree in terms of the dev (Monolith Soft), but also GOOD LORD IT'S €35 THAT'S AN INSANE DEAL. So yeah: very excited to most likely no-life these two down the line XD

Celeste (€5): I don't think I can properly put into words how badly I've wanted to play Celeste since the moment it came out: a tough-as-nails platformer with brilliant level design and amazing story ticked pretty much every single box in my head back in the day. However, for as much as I wanted to play it, I could never force myself to bite the bullet on the €20 price tag for one reason or another, leaving it as another 'the one that got away' game similar to Link Between Worlds or

Picross S (€6.40): Look I know I kind of got a bit rambly in the previous two points but I got this one for one reason and one reason alone: I just like really like Picross XD

Contra/Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection(s) (€2 a piece): Wasn't planning on grabbing the rest of the Konami Anniversary Collections so soon after grabbing the Castlevania one a while back, but I vividly remember bursting out in laughter the moment I saw the prices for these on the first day of the BF sales and simply had to pick them up as a result. Definitely helps that I've grown decently fond of Konami's back catalog as of late and with a new Contra game in the horizon? Seems like a good time to finally get into a series I've always thought looked cool as hell (oh and Arcade Classics is here too I guess XD).

Coromon (€8): As mentioned with Baten Kaitos, I'm looking to branch out my RPG repitoire for next year and a genre of game that I surprisingly haven't tackled much yet are Pokemon-likes. Don't get me wrong: I've played every single mainline Pokemon game since Gen 5. Despite that however, I've hardly ever tried out any other games with similar gameplay loops/style (the only one I've completed that fits the bill being Yo-Kai Watch). I wanted to give the sub-genre another go though and, after looking through my options, I settled on Coromon for a number of reasons: phenomenal spritework, nice chunky length and a lot of modes commonly seen in Pokemon ROM hacks that are baked into the experience (namely a Nuzlocke mode for extra challenge). Should be a great time whenever I get around to it!

Giga Wrecker Alt (€3.74): Similar to Picross S, I got this one for 3 reasons exactly:
1. I think it'll be a great game to play after finishing the classic Mega Man series next year
2. It's made by Game Freak
3. I absolutely adore it's artstyle

The Last Campfire (€2.24): I may not have talked all too much about it on here, but The Last Campfire firmly sits alongside games like Celeste or Please Touch The Artwork as a sort of pet indie game of mine: one that, while I never picked up for myself, I always held very near and dear to my heart for one reason or another. Maybe it's because it's a delightfully quaint offering by a studio most well-known for an absolutely colossal experience by comparison or it's adorable protagonist/Zelda-style gameplay. Could be both for all I know, but after missing out on it in my last eShop splurge due to a fatal miscalculation in leftover funds, I finally managed to pick it up for myself and will definitely be making my way through it as a palette cleanser after I tackle a bunch of Zelda games beforehand!

None of the games I was really waiting for sales on were on black Friday sales but I snagged a couple of the best deals from my wishlist:

COTTON Fantasy on a great 75% off sale. I already had a couple cotton shootemups and they're just cute and fun, so I'm slowly building a collection.

Frogun on 40% off. Kinda been wanting this since the day it came out because I'm obsessed with platformers but I resisted. So finally picking it up.

I also downloaded the NSO trial of Fae Farm and a normal demo of Brave Dungeon - the Meaning of Justice. If I like either of those I may buy one of those games on the current sale or else wait for better sales.

Was shopping at Target tonight with my daughter and we noticed Mario Strikers on sale for $20 so we picked it up. She’s been watching some Switch let’s play videos lately and this was one she had an interest in after watching a video about it. So I grabbed it to try it out.

It’s actually a ton of fun - more so than I was expecting. She’s only 7, but she picked up on the controls pretty quick and we’ve been having a blast playing co-op tonight. I wish it had a deeper single player and co-op mode selection but it’ll be in our dad/daughter rotation for some time it seems.

Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol 1 (physical was on sale)

I knew there was a large download required, but now I regret buying physical since there are no playable games on the cartridge. I may still buy these Metal Gear games digitally because I'm getting tired of the hassle of swapping cartridges.

@NeonPizza surprised, I thought prison city was great and really captured that 80/90s gaming feel.

@NeonPizza trust me, its worth it. Even with those slight hiccups on the platforming sections. I think they did that intentionally, but im not sure.

As for those other games, they all hit the right notes. I'd toss messenger and cyber shadow in there too. Obvi shovel knight as well. Haven't played huntdown or tanking yet though.

Just found a second-hand copy of WarioWare: Get It Together!, that's a game you don't see offered around here unless you go to another state.

Maybe one day I get WarioWare: Move It! as well.

Apart from that, I also got the ACA NEOGEO releases of Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 and The King of Fighters 2001 during the current sale.

I caved in and bought Fae Farm. I had intended to hold out until there was a better sale, but the NSO game trial got me hooked. It's just too cute. Plus possibly the only farming sim with a double jump.

@FishyS Did not know about the double jump, but pretty sure I've seen a dash in the gameplay footage I've seen, which took me by surprise (dare I say, slightly jarring).

I bought Master Detectives Archives: RAIN CODE as pretty much my only BF-type purchase, plus I guess the Mario Kart 8 DLC with trinkets counts too.

Also inexplicably bought 2 x Collector's Edition of TOTK. People be selling them off cheaper than they were originally sold for, so I bought one slightly opened box to enjoy the contents, and one sealed box to keep for the collection because I'm mad (the box is massive, one of them is more than enough but oh no, I had to go and get two of them ffs).

Got a physical copy of Untitled Goose Game, mostly because a rash of Youtube videos lately saying it's a funny and low-key awesome game.

I... somewhat liked it... I guess? It was ok. Certain interactions were funny, for sure. But overall the controls felt slightly spongy to me, and I have no desire to go back and try the time trials or hidden objectives. I spent 20 bucks for it, but in my opinion I wouldn't spend over 10.

NintendoByNature

@rallydefault I thought it was one of the most overrated games I've ever played . The first 10 minutes were fun, then it just got annoying/boring. I dread when my kids want to play it lol. No disrespect to the many who enjoyed it. I just think it was different enough of a game that people thought it was better than it was.
