Nintendo are pretty terrible at putting spoilers in their own trailers. Luckily most people don't notice they're spoilers without the benefit of hindsight.
Lots of trailers I've seen that people consider "spoilery" are only really "spoilery" if you understand the context of the included clips. More often than not, the way people react to a trailer is more likely to spoil me than the trailer on its own.
Of course, there are exceptions. Like this vintage FFVII commercial that unapologetically spoils the biggest 'moment' in the game.
Some new screenshots of the various main characters. These are looking awesome. I think these actually might be my favourite character designs in any of the Xenoblade games so far. They're kinda like half way between XCX and XC2 character designs.
(someone should run these as an article on the main site)
Anyone else wish we could get a more direct sequel to the first game? That one we got was not what i was hoping for. It's good sure but i missed the main characters from the original game.
"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" Optimus Prime
Well the new expansion seems like it's kinda a mini-sequel.
It's not really clear how they could do a proper sequel with the same world and characters though, given how the first game ends......
....as the Mechonis is destroyed, and the Bionis has collapsed into the sea. I guess you could have a world just set on the various islands that have been created by the collapsed Bionis. There's no obvious continuation of the story though. It would just have to be something completely new. Developers often just make new characters in situations like that.
The problem I've found with mostly older games (but some newer) is that some people are way better about not spoiling things than others. Take FF VII, a game I've never played but plan to at some point. I know very little about the game and what happens in it besides the premise, except of course for THAT scene, but I had that spoiled ages ago.
Another is BotW. It's more recent, but everyone and their mother has APPARENTLY played it by this point, so why not spoil all the secrets, eh? It's been extremely hard for me to dodge major spoilers.
Well some spoilers are easier to communicate than others.
A character dying, e.g in FF7, is something everyone can understand independently of the game's story. But the same isn't true for other types of spoilers.
Like if someone were to "spoil" Xenoblade by telling everyone ahead of time what the Monado actually is, it just wouldn't mean anything. You need to play the whole story before that spoiler even makes sense. That's mostly true of the Elma spoiler in the XCX trailer too. It's not obviously meaningful until you're quite a way through the story.
@Dezzy Good points. I personally don't mind minor spoilers of little consequence or in the context of your second paragraph; it's mainly plot twists, cool tricks, certain mechanics, etc. that I'd rather find out on my own.
As I have played and finished XCX, I don't recall ever knowing about the Elma spoiler beforehand, but I sort of guessed what was going on while playing the game even before the big reveal. Probably the biggest twist for me in that game was that humans aren't technically "human" in the physical sense. It explained a few things I was wondering about, but I chalked a lot of it up to the technology being used and the different environmental effects on Mira up until that point.
@Dezzy The first twist you mentioned. The second opens up potential sequel territory, one which I'd like to see and hope Monolith has future plans for.
I meant the first twist at the end. There are 2 twists. One when you find out what the lifehold actually contains, then a second twist right in the last minute. It's that second one that opens up sequel territory (and felt kinda unnecessary to me)
@Dezzy Ah, THAT twist. My brain skipped right past that one. That was a pretty good one too, though I recall having a harder time grasping that one at first. My brain was quite saturated from plot info at the time.
MyNintendoNews is reporting that the new epilogue is going to feature a new battle system! That makes me think it's gonna be more meaty than a couple post game quests!

@Tyranexx BotW has major spoilers? That's news to me. The reason no one cares not to spoil it is that the game's story consists of a variety memories of a hundred years prior, there's no plot twists or anything really outside of the tutorial.
@darkfenrir I had a feeling this was the case from what we'd seen, but it's nice it's confirmed. So far we have:
1. The affinity chart has been completely overhauled to be more useful (Reminds me of the bomber's notebook more now?)
2. Future Connected is a standalone epilogue with its own battle system, suggesting it may be similar in size and scope to Torna
3. Switch between original and remastered music freely. It looks like you can change cutscene, battle and overworld music separately.
4. Overhauled Colony 6 quest + it's accessible via the menu
5. Fashion Gear is back from XCX
6. The Active Quest system from XC2 is back for people who want more guidance.
@Grumblevolcano That's what I was thinking. If it's like Torna, then it's practically another whole game. Albeit slightly smaller, but Torna stood well on its own. I know some people like it better than the base game - though I wouldn't count myself in that group, I did really really like it.
Even if it's not quite as meaty as Torna was, the idea that it plays like a refreshed experience after going through the nice big 60+ hour (which means 80+ hour for me) base game, it will be quite nice. It also will mean they wont have to try and top the finale in any direct way. Which is good.

I didn't even consider the fact that the new epilogue might be a kind of 15-hour long affair. But given Monolith's style, it certainly could be. I'd honestly assumed it'd be like 5 hours long.
Honestly that fashion gear option is one of the best improvements. I hated having to wear insane alien armour for large chunks of the game just to get good stats. I prefer just wearing their default outfits, which are much more representative of the various different characters and their styles.
Also the added detail to the environments really does make a different. The texuring looks great.
