I know that some people find the form factor of the original Switch Joy Cons to be a bit too small for them. It's likely from also having children in mind when designing them.

You might get used to it over time but there are also plenty of third party options that are bigger, such as the Hori Split pad pro. Something like those might be more comfortable for you when playing in handheld.

Ragman, as the others stated, a Procontroller definitely will feel more familiar to you. The joycons are WAY too small. If you want to stay in that formfactor portable mode, I suggest checking out a satisfye grip. I love it. Your entire switch slides into it and it is MUCH more comfortable.
