@YummyHappyPills Isn't everything handled by the same 'studio' these days? I believe all EAD merged into EPD, and everything is listed under that name.

@Octane Yeah, but how many teams are within that studio? The guys who made ARMS are also the same group for Mario Kart. Same for Splatoon and Animal Crossing. This has been known for some time.

@Octane Well the promotion on this site for ARMS earlier in the year made it very clear ARMS was by the same team as MK8 Deluxe.

@YummyHappyPills Yeah, I know, but saying Zelda and Mario are done by the same studio means just as much as saying Splatoon and ARMS are done by the same studio, or Mario Kart and Zelda. It's all going to be the same studio from here on out. At least, until Nintendo spells out the different teams for us.

@Grumblevolcano The producer of ARMS also directed MK8. The teams aren't as rigid as some make them out to be. Various people are credited, a bunch of people who worked on MK8, but also staff that worked on various other games like Splatoon, Zelda and Pikmin.

I don't think we're going to see MK8D DLC or MK9. I think they will make a new game instead, be it an existing IP or a new one. Some of the team could split off and join up with another team to help finish off a 2018 game, say Animal Crossing, while the remaining crew start work on the new game and when they need help to finish their game, members of the Splatoon/AC team will join them. Point is, they done a lot of restructuring a couple of years ago and now with them only having 1 console to develop for and any games that were being worked on at the time now finished or in their final stages, we're going to start seeing the effects of that restructuring. How things were done in the past isn't how things are being done now or in the future,Nintendo said as much. The old way is gone.

@OorWullie Agreed. I don't see the point of making another Mario Kart seeing the success of MK8DX.

Good... good
Now play Dragon Quest

@OorWullie I think DLC still makes sense, I doubt Nintendo's just going to ignore Mario Kart now for however long the Switch lasts (probably 5+ years) and MK9 would be a waste of resources (MK8 Deluxe is doing well and releasing a new MK towards the end of the Switch's lifespan would ruin the potential of Switch's successor).

I'd say this was just the plan. They never said when it would stop. They've added quite a bit of content, really.

But you never know...Super ARMS Turbo in 2019??? 😛

Maybe it'll get a sequel in the inevitable SUPER NINTENDO SWITCH (SNS)

I think they are just moving on to a new project and this was just all the content they must have had planned. It could use a sequel sometime to fix some of the issues people had with it and that would be a good excuse to add a bigger roster, but as someone else said SFII originally only had 8 characters, and arguably the best console version of the game, SFII Turbo, only had 12 characters. A fighting game doesn't need 50+ token characters, I think they did a good job with ARMS.

@Grumblevolcano If there was any DLC, they would've announced it already. How many people are still playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? I'm talking about the rate of active users, at least once per week. That's not saying it's a bad game, it's just that people move on to other games after a while if it doesn't get any updates. In short, they're a bit late if they want to do DLC. And this year had a lot of competition, from online experiences, like Splatoon and ARMS, and a few big single player games as well.

What? Zelda and Mario aren't done by the same internal studio at all — they both came out this year! And ALBW and 3D World did in 2013. That makes no sense!

Anyway, I hope ARMS 2 happens and allows for a more complete release, but I'm really damn excited about that MK9. I can't wait to see what they come up with. I hope they forget coins and Koopalings and bring back character specific items.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Grumblevolcano

@Octane I think it's still a bit too early to say DLC isn't happening and Nintendo is a lot more secretive than they used to be.

@Grumblevolcano What's the point of DLC this late in its lifespan? I'd rather get a new F-Zero instead.

Octane

FragRed

@Grumblevolcano DLC is not happening. It was never going to happen. The whole point of MK8 being called Deluxe was that it was everything including DLC. It was also a way to easily fill a gap in the first year of games. I doubt Nintendo ever intended it to be the main game in the franchise for the system.
