@Grumblevolcano speaking of demo, anyone still remember the demo for Pokemon Alpha Sappire/Omega Ruby few years back where the demo gave you freebie items to transfer over to the full game?
The Star ocean 2 demo ill have to try it out this weekend and maybe the demo for the new Disgaea game even though I never bought any of the previous Disgaea games
It's weird that Nintendo has released multiple comparable remakes for 60 dollars and people are shocked one of them is 50, as if Nintendo wouldn't charge that much.
But its also weird Nintendo could remake 2 GBA games in one for 60 with Advance Wars, and suddenly only now is it not worth buying.
Overall all todays Direct was rather lacking in my opinion. There wasn’t any announcements today that really made me excited about. Many of them we already knew about from previous directs.
I thought the Direct rocked. I'm so stoked for Wonder, the Peach game, Mario RPG, and I never did play the Mario Minis game(s), but I LOVED Mario vs. Donkey Kong on the original Gameboy when I was a little kid.
That "code" game from the DS looks interesting, too (sorry, I'm not bothering to go back and look up titles haha), and of course Thousand Year Door is gonna be a buy because I never owned a Gamecube yet I love the Paper Mario series.
Yea, it frickin' rocked. This is definitely Switch's last year, but I have half a dozen games at least from this Direct that I'll be buying day one.
@GameOtaku That’s understandable as Nintendo’s approach seems to be focused mostly on remasters and remakes to coast them through the next 12 months or so in the run up to the next console where the big new releases will launch.

So I had a look, and if this really is the final 12 months for the Switch as the main system, its the most stacked a Nintendo system has been in its run down, just in terms of first party published titles.

To be fair, a lot of the time there were two main systems. As the single main system, Switch has had to be fairly stacked all along.
@FishyS True, but even if you look at the Wii and DS that transitioned almost simultaneously, the drop off in content is stark. Wii U/3DS also wasn't great, even though 3DS got a few games per year after.

Hard to judge because the releases didn't usually overlap. I would note that both the DS and the Wii got a Zelda game in their last years but you're also right I think. Outside of Skyward Sword and Spirit Tracks there wasn't a whole lot. Mario & Luigi, Mario Party 9, Kirby's Return to Dreamland. Not exactly heavy hitters..... although Pokemon lingered around on DS for a while so there's that

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
@skywake I mean, looking at Nintendo published titles there is often this perception that support just kinda drops off a cliff in the last year or two, and in terms of quantity it feels that way, but man, this system has been something else. That little sizzle reel in the Direct of every Nintendo published game coming soon just reinforced the idea that sure, the dev teams are keeping all the big stuff for the next platform, but there is still money in the Switch for smaller and more niche titles while the install base is big.
At least its not like the Wii where they got caught with their pants down and dropped it like a hot rock.

Yeah its good Nintendo learned from the Wii. There were many issues with the Wii U, but an underrated one was Nintendo's refusal to even attempt to keep the Wii alive after 2010, barring Skyward Sword, so why would anyone care about a successor to a system even Nintendo doesn't care about anymore?
Also most people don't get a new console at launch, so it seems silly to immediately ignore an audience that large.
@Haruki_NLI
Was just looking through my library of Wii games. Fairly sure the only games I bought in the last 12 months before I picked up the Wii U were Rayman Origins and Kirby's Epic Yarn. Skyward Sword technically released more than a year prior to Wii U here so doesn't count. With the transition from Wii U to Switch the only game I bought in that last year was Twilight Princess HD
Anecdotal for sure but if the Switch 2 launches around this time next year it'll surely do better. At least for me. Although the above is partly because with a slim output on the home console side my attention was diverted to the portable side. That last year of Wii was also the first year of 3DS. Even so, I'm definitely picking up Wonder and TTYD so the Switch is already ahead of both Wii and Wii U on that measure
@skywake Yeah the final 12 months or so of Switch has easily some of the best 1st party support a Nintendo system has had in their final years.
This is true of 3rd party support too. We're getting a new 2D Sonic, a new Prince of Persia, a new Dragon Quest Monsters (exclusive too), a Persona spinoff, a Star Ocean 2 remake, and some notable ports of older games, most of which are collections (Batman Trilogy, MGS collection, Apollo Justice Trilogy). That's not including all the various indie titles or Level 5's titles either. Much better than most past systems
