@Buizel: I feel like, when it comes to the general market, every little detail counts. Consumers like you and I may analyze the situation, and decide what features matter in buying a console, but consumers like us only ever make up a portion of the total market. When it comes to distant fans, in-store browsing, impulse buys, and holiday shopping, people tend go with their gut. They buy a little more emotionally.
P.S. To be clear, I'm not blaming Nintendo in the slightest for updating their handheld's design, and it's more likely that this means nothing. It's not like there's another dual-screen device on the market they're competing with, besides (I suppose) the 3DS. I'm just being a concerned fan over here. ^.^
No point in starting something from scratch when the end result will look pretty similar.
This is the kind of perspective that gives Nintendo a strong incentive to release ports instead of brand-new video games.
What I find interesting is that Nintendo usually gets criticized by gamers and video game journalists for not releasing enough video games that aren't rehashed or are based on new IPs. Gamers and video game journalists can't make up their minds.
It really depends on the title. For something like New SMB there'll be an audible moan when a new one comes out. Because we all know it's going to be more or less the same game again. For a story based game that's getting a HD remaster it depends on how long since the game has been out. Ten years since the release of the original is fine, one year is generally pushing it.
Multiplayer focused titles like Smash Bros, Splatoon, Mario Kart and so on. Who cares? If you asked the average Smash Bros player after Melee what they wanted out of a new Smash Bros? They'd say Melee with better visuals and more characters/stages. As a Mario Kart fan after Mario Kart 7 came out all I wanted on the Wii U was that same game again but with better visuals and more tracks. Same deal with Splatoon.
Obviously I want new games on the system. Mario, Zelda, Metroid. New IPs and sequels to games in series I love. But I can think that and also be down for enhanced ports of Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Mario Maker, Zelda:BotW and Pokemon. Because if you ask me those are two entirely different categories of games.

@Whitewatermoose There's nothing to really suggest that the Switch has poor third party support to start with. Absence of evidence =/= evidence of absence.
Breaking down the Laura Dale list of games from my perspective:
Launch titles:
3D Mario -> 100% sold on the idea of this
Mario Rabbids RPG -> ..... ?
Splatoon Port -> Will buy because the Wii U servers will empty and the Wii U version didn't have off-TV
Skyrim -> No interest in this but it's a good sign regardless. Please port some other stuff over Bethesda!
Just Dance -> Zero interest, entirely expected
First Six Months
Smash Bros Port -> I don't care that it's a port, it's a must have game. I'll buy it for the third time
Zelda BotW -> As far as I'm concerned it doesn't count as a port. I'm getting the Switch for this
Teltale GotG -> A good sign, not really my thing. Nice that it's there
Mario Kart 8 Port -> Same as with Smash Bros. But it's behind both Smash and Splatoon for me
Xenoblade X Port -> The Wii U version lost me with it's technical issues. I might get this version.
Mario Maker Port -> I'm perfectly fine with this becoming the new New SMB. One and done.
beyond 6months
Pokemon Stars -> A traditional third Pokemon but on significantly more powerful hardware. 100% yes.
Pikmin 4 -> Pikmin is a great series so I'll be interested to see what happens with this
Beyond Good & Evil -> Potentially the Switch's Bayonetta
If that's every single game the Switch gets? Then ok, it's not great. It seems very unlikely that this is all they have for 2017. But even so I see 8 games there that I'm probably going to get. Another 2-3 that I'm interested in the idea of. So there's enough there for me to want to buy the system personally. This is already better than the start the Wii U and 3DS had. IMO.
What is the likelihood of a new Paper Mario being on the Switch? I've only played TTYD, but it's a contender for my favorite game of all time. I've noticed that there has been a Paper Mario on every console since the N64 so far, but that Mario RPG coming out at launch makes me wonder. Does Nintendo sometimes have more than one Mario RPG per system?
@KirbyTheVampire
You're forgetting the Mario & Luigi series and the fact that the Switch is going to carry software from two product tiers. The Switch is going to have some games that have never been on a portable system before. It's also going to have some games that have never been on a home console before.

Posted this in the Wii U forum but thought I'd also post here in case it was missed by some folk (and it's somewhat relevant). Mods, feel free to remove if it's classed as double-posting:
Confirmed March release on both consoles, Wii U version released before Switch version, advertising error, or fake? You decide...
I wouldn't trust Game when it comes to anything date/price related. That's made by Game themselves not Nintendo, and so I would not put it past that they just used a placeholder date. I doubt Nintendo would have allowed them to produce such posters and advertise a game before Nintendo has officially confirmed anything, especially this far away from the January conference.

@Whitewatermoose: If they did release one before the other, the Switch version will come first. Nintendo wants that version to sell their new console.
I mentioned this on the other thread: notice how the "OUT MAR 2017" looks holiday-themed, with the snow-capped red ribbon and everything. It makes me think it was photoshopped.
Even if that printout is right, remember a similar thing happened with finals fantasy 15 where they sent out posters with the September release, then later sent stickers to be placed over it. So even if it's on official promos, it's not set in stone
If it is official promo material from Nintendo, then they need to fire their whole marketing department again. Its definitively one of the most uninspired ways to inform stuff about the game, you would think they'd replace the bullet points for little triforces or eyes of the sheikah or something.
@Nicolai I think he has used reasoning based on the 'advert' confirming Wii U version out in March and the 'leaks' stating that the Switch BotW may be delayed. It's sound reasoning as long as the advert is legit and the leaks are true lol.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
The tweet Laura mentioned about not knowing all third party support, hopefully this means we still have some surprises in store. By surprises, I mean ports of third party games, that they didn't typically get in the past. Like Fifa, garden warfare, Overwatch, COD, dragon quest builders, world of Final fantasy, RE7, etc.
we know about Skyrim, nba, and just dance. What else do you realistically expect to see on Switch around launch?
TBH the only game you listed I'd be surprised about would be Overwatch. Purely because the last time Blizzard supported a Nintendo console in any significant way was with the SNES. Having Blizzard making games for Nintendo would be about a strange as it is hearing Bethesda is. All the other things you listed are games from series that have been on Nintendo platforms fairly recently.
