@erv Not happening, absolutely 100% not happening. You're not going to get 90% off any new game when you trade an old one in for it, never mind a Wii U game for a Switch one.
The sooner people get this out of their heads the better.
@Octane: You mean like how Nintendo screwed over its fans that bought the Wii U for the Zelda game, only to have it delayed 2 years to put it on a new system? Lol
I can see it happening. But I really hope it ends up working for both of this is true. However, I think 50% off is a way more realistic number. Overall, my gut tells me this is a lie, though. Nintendo probably expects us to pay full price.
@Nicolai Zelda is still coming to the Wii U, no one got screwed over. And if you buy a system for one game rather than the library of software (especially first party) then I'd argue it's your own fault.
I don't see why Nintendo should give any discounts to ports, especially if said ports had additional features, tracks/maps and characters etc. Most remasters and ports on PlayStation and Xbox don't give a discount, they fully expect you to pay full price and people do.

@BLP_Software FFX? Probably not, TLOU? It sold about as much copies on the PS4 as the PS3, so I say there was demand for it. It got released a few months before the PS4 released, bit of a weird choice if you ask me. Turned out to be one of ND's finest games, so I can see why those remasters happened.
I don't blame Nintendo for updating Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon either. I fact, I think that's what they should do. Just support those games with more DLC throughout the lifespan of the Switch. No point in starting something from scratch when the end result will look pretty similar. And it allows them to get Mario Kart and Splatoon out relatively soon. But for games like Tropical Freeze, or 3D World? I'd rather see new games instead.
Remasters are fine, just make sure the Switch library consists of a little more than just HD ports and remasters. I certainly don't need ports of every single Wii U game on the Switch.
@Octane Mario Kart, Splatoon and to an extent Smash can benefit for continued content. Those games have the foundation pretty much set now. Only really warrants a new game with major revision or new engines.
Wii U didn't have much remastery if I remember. Wind Waker and Twilight Princess was all that comes to mind. I still don't get FFX HD...er. But The Last of Us? Honestly I'd have held that for PS4 launch.

The online multiplayer games (MK8, Smash, Splatoon, Pokken) and Super Mario Maker should get ports for Switch with after launch getting more DLC/updates to make those games into platforms throughout the Switch's lifespan. Everything else should remain Wii U exclusive and new games in the franchises happening instead.
@BLP_Software TLOU isn't that different from TP on the GCN and Wii, or BOTW on the Wii U and Switch now that I think about it. I had no problems with those either. Was a bit disappointed with the TP remaster though, they should've remade the game from scratch, those 3D models don't really hold up anymore. If you're doing a HD remaster, make sure it's done right. Wind Waker didn't require much work, but it worked in the end. I'm sure that the Switch versions of Wii U games won't look much different at all.
Anyway, as I said, remasters are good, as long as they're spread out and don't take over the regular new games. If they decide to rework MK8 and Splatoon for the Switch for its first year, then I don't think we need any more Wii U remasters for the remainder of 2017.
@Octane I cant help but think Nintendo is responding to things said about Wii U. Remember when people were saying about Splatoon, Mario Kart, Xenoblade etc. "Where was this in year 1?". Well maybe that wish comes true.
Again though, for 13 million people it's updated retreads. For the rest of the potential 7 billion it's new stuff. Yes its not exciting for us but for millions it can be. I mean how well did TLOU do on PS3 before hopping to PS4? They didn't feel bummed out. Hell loads of last gen games are getting chucked over, fills in gaps with increasing development times and expenditure.
I still haven't played TLOU though. Got a feeling I wont like it. Same reason I wont play Undertale or OoT.

@Grumblevolcano I do think Nintendo will support the likes of Mario Kart and Splatoon with new tracks/maps and characters but I don't think that will last throughout the Switch lifespan, especially if it takes 6 months between each Mario Kart DLC like last time.
There is always a drop off rate in regards to the returns you can make on each additional DLC for a game that it'll eventually become redundant at which point a new entry in the franchise will likely hit. More so if the Switch is to have revisions kinda like how Sony and Microsoft are doing things.

Xenoblade is a strange choice because it wasn't a huge seller, and it doesn't have a multiplayer/online aspect like the other Wii U ports. I think Nintendo is just heavily invested in the franchise because it fills the RPG void in Nintendo's lineup.
The success and sustained popularity of titles like Mario Kart, Smash Bros. and Splatoon is due to the competitive multiplayer which offers endless hours of replay value. People will spend the majority of their playing time on each of the multiplayer modes. They are essentialy multiplayer games. The reverse is true for Xenoblade. While it may have online portions, it is essentially a single player game.
I was recently talking with a friend, who doesn't follow video games like I do, but who was excited about Pokémon Sun and Moon. She asked me if she could play it on her DS, to which I replied "no." I was explaining how console generations work, so the conversation naturally wandered over to the Nintendo Switch. She had never heard of it, so I explained it to her. Her main response was that she was disappointed that it wasn't going to have a clam-shell design with two screens.
All I've got to say is, for the Switch's sake, I sure hope her opinion doesn't reflect a wide demographic.
@BiasedSonyFan That's fair, but the Switch won't be that more powerful than the Wii U. It doesn't make sense to build them from scratch when the end result won't look different at all. It makes more sense to add new features, different gameplay mechanics, more courses, tracks, maps and weapons. And it looks like they're going that. Would a completely new game be better? Of course, but the difference wouldn't be noticeable and it would also mean that those games wouldn't be ready at launch. I think that updated ports was the smarter decision in the end.
Also, gamers aren't one entity, some folks want new IPs, some want sequels and others want remakes and remasters of old games. You can't always please everyone.
@BiasedSonyFan: I could see them bringing four of the Wii U's biggest sellers to Switch, but a game like DK is what would confuse me. Then again, there's no law that says that Nintendo must not release a new game of a series following an enhanced port of a previous game from that series on the same console. Switch is apparently throwing away the old Nintendo playbook and writing a new one.
This is very true - think Super Mario World and Super mario All-Stars, Wind Waker and OoT MQ / Collector's Edition, etc. Look at all the Zelda games available on the 3DS.
@Nicolai I'm sure many people are disappointed at the lack of clam-shell design. Would many consider it a deal-breaker though?
