I'm opening my OLED tonight. No screen protector yet so I'm going to be extra extra careful.

So outside of when my tv was partially broken and handheld mode saved my gaming experience on the system, my favorite use of handheld mode, just like the Wii U, is re-experiencing GBA nostalgia (Castlevania, in case you're wondering, since obviously GBA isn't on NSO). GBA on console would also be fine because I had a GCN GBA Player but the nostalgia of playing on particularly the original wide GBA screen has been perfect for this.

And since its Circle of the Moon, its the best type of nostalgia where I don't even deal with being unable to see the game nor failing to be good enough to get past early bosses like I did when I played it back then.

My OG grey joy-cons just got drift. They had a good run.

Perfect timing.

@JaxonH I can fix them. I got the proper cardboard/paper staring at me now lol.

Damn, judging by how today's gone for the XC3 Special Edition preorders (approaching 12 hours of the store being down due to too many people trying to view the store) it feels like there's zero chance of me being able to get Bayonetta 1 physical.

Thats really the solution. It's proven effective at Limited Run Games.

But then look at all the criticism and complaints leveled toward LRG. "It takes too long". That's the price paid for taking preorders in advance. You can't have it both ways. Granted, Nintendo could do shorter lead times given they own the production process. But still.

I just did the cardboard Joy-Con drift fix with limited tools.

(What I used)

1 Tri-wing screwdriver
1 Philips-head screwdriver
A random guitar pick
Some tape I found last minute behind a door and is the only tape in my house at the moment
Cardstock that's as thick as a quarter cut into a small square
Prayer

I did it in under 20mins. I'm very proud of myself I didn't screw it up.

Finally managed to get onto the My Nintendo Store and the XC3 Special Edition was completely gone.

I finished setting up my OLED and OMG IT'S THE PRETTIEST SCREEN I'VE EVER LOOKED AT.

Right now I'm still in the downloading stuff phase and I can't wait to play Xenoblade Chronicles 3 with the upgrade.

Yes... you really don't understand until you use one for yourself. This is why so many are concerned Nintendo may revert to LCD for Switch 2. It's hard to go back.

I have a question about the OLED on the home screen is it supposed to look slightly green-sh.

@Kermit1
Nope. Mine doesn't. Though I have heard some ppl see a greenish tint on low brightness. I still don't regardless of brightness, but I'd disable auto brightness and turn it up to near max. Besides which, you don't really get much battery savings on low brightness with OLED because it's already so efficient.

Doesn't the Switch OLED have this screen flicker if you lower the brightness? I remember hearing about it last year and if I were to upgrade to the OLED, I'm afraid that it might be distracting for me. I like having a low brightness setting on all my devices, so I can save some battery life.

It was a lot of hoopla over nothing. 99% of ppl can't notice. It's something ppl read and it sounds bad but in real life you have to have some special sensitivity to notice it.

Furthermore, OLED is not like LCD. Battery savings from low brightness are worthless. You might squeeze an extra 10 minutes going from max brightness to min brightness, on a 5 hr battery life. So, 5 hrs 10 minutes instead of 5 hrs, at the cost of an extremely dim screen.

With LCD the battery savings are significant. But because OLED is so much more efficient due to pixels turning on and off, the savings are negligible. Best to crank that sucker to max brightness, no auto-brightness, and enjoy it to the fullest. You'll still get 5+ hour battery life, even as much as cracking 10 hrs in Final Fantasy IX.

@JaxonH Ohhh, OK. So it's nowhere near as bad, that's good to know. Also good to know that OLED is more efficient than LCD. I've been thinking of getting the Switch OLED, I did hear great things about the screen besides that one concern I had, plus the extra internal storage is a nice bonus too. Though, I did have someone suggest I should wait until the next Switch model is announced. Maybe a version that has 128 GB, or something like that... though that might be more pricey so I'm not sure if Nintendo would want to make that. Thanks for the reply!

There's always a new model around the corner. Which is why I never wait and always buy day one. Otherwise it's a perpetual "but the next one might release soon" cycle of never upgrading.

I actually think there's a reasonable chance we could see Switch 2 release alongside Zelda next May. And the reason I think that is, well for one, Switch will be in its 7th year by that point, and a new model has to come at some point. But for two, their next model will surely want to replicate the strategy that worked for Switch, which is launching with a must have game. It can be cross gen, but it still needs a top tier, 10/10, "everyone's gotta play" launch title. And while Metroid Prime 4 could certainly be that for the select Nintendo enthusiasts, it's too much of a risk for the broader gamership. Only Mario and Zelda will draw the critical praise they'll want to push their next system. And with new Zelda games only releasing every 5-6 yrs, this is their one shot to capitalize. Otherwise it'll be near 2030 before the next one is ready to go.

Granted, they could launch in 2024 or early 2025 and go with a new mainline 3D Mario instead. That's always a possibility. But I think there's at least a 50/50 chance we see Switch 2 launch with Zelda. Possibly a March reveal with a 60 day lead up.

If not though, we'll at least get a new revision next year. They released Switch in 2017. Two yrs later in 2019 we got Switch Lite. Two yrs later in 2021 we got Switch OLED. Two yrs later in 2023 we'll likely get another revision. Be it a Lite OLED, Switch Pro, or Switch 2. One way or another we're getting something next year.

But I doubt it's a Switch Pro. I could be wrong, but I think it's too late for that, and any jump we see will be to the next generation. So my bet is on a Lite OLED, if its not a Switch 2. But... time will tell.

On the left-side of my OLED on low-ish brightness it's a slight green tint. I did some Googling and turns out it's a defect.

On the one hand this shouldn't bother me and all I need to do is turn up the brightness.

On the other hand I'm getting sick of Nintendo and they're recent lack of quality even though this is probably just a "normal problem".

On my foot I've had a busy day I woke up late and messed up my day, I found out I was getting my OLED early and then the rest of my day was me transferring everything from my OG Switch to my OLED to then set it all up with games and to see there's a green tint and I have a headache. This could just be me complaining about nothing but these little things bother me.

I'm legit tempted to return it because looking more into it seems it gets slightly worse over time.

To say I'm a little angry is not a lie.
