So how do I download the latest update for the Switch Console. I have my Switch connected to my phone's Hotspot cause that's the only internet I have. All I get is a message saying Downloading update data 999 minutes remaining and its been saying that for a half hour now.

@Ralizah The difference in sales between NSMBU Deluxe and Mario Maker 2 isn't an explanation as simple as "people prefer Nintendo made courses". It's important to remember that:
NSMBU Deluxe released January 11th 2019 meanwhile Mario Maker 2's initial announcement was on February 13th 2019 so there was an entire month where with NSMBU Deluxe on the shelves, it looked as though that would be the only 2D Mario purchasable on the Switch
In between NSMBU Deluxe and Mario Maker 2's launch, there was another Nintendo 2D platformer released (Yoshi's Crafted World on March 29th 2019) giving a similar impression to the infamous 2D platformer oversaturation of the 3DS/Wii U era
One of the big exciting new features of Mario Maker 2 (online multiplayer) was very broken to similar extremes of Super Smash Bros Brawl and you could initially only play with randoms (some people would rather play online with their friends than with randoms)
The Wii U Mario Maker got lots of updates even with it being near the end of the Wii U era but Mario Maker 2 only got 3 updates (the update which added online multiplayer with friends and 2 content updates)
If Mario Maker 2 was the January 2019 release and NSMBU Deluxe was the June 2019 release, the sales would've been more in Mario Maker 2's favour.
You can get a 55" Sony Bravia 4K OLED TV for $999 at Best Buy right now (it's like half price). Even my 55" LG C1 4K OLED was like $1300 on sale over a year ago and Bravia has always been more expensive.
Only thing to note is, despite having 4 HDMI ports like the LG, only 2 of them are HDMI 2.1 ports capable of VRR or 4k 120fps, whereas on the LG, all 4 of them are HDMI 2.1. Not a problem unless you have 3+ systems that require VRR or 4k 120fps
Even on Wii U, where Mario Maker made a far bigger splash, NSMBU still sold nearly 50% more. On Switch its an even bigger discrepancy, and despite Mario Maker 2 being a brand new game and NSMBU being a launch day port from the Wii U era.
That's not coincidence. That's evidence of a trend.

Yeah that what I am afraid of, I want to cancel but I don't want to brick the system. I have downloaded games this way without any problems, not sure why this is being a problem.

@JaxonH NSMBU sold 5.82 million and Mario Maker sold 4.02 million, that's really close considering the circumstances. NSMBU was a launch title for Wii U which was followed by a gigantic game drought meanwhile Mario Maker launched 6 months after Nintendo announced the NX and 3 months after the infamous E3 2015 which pretty much confirmed Nintendo's focus was the NX.

I use Hotspot at work and it's fine. The thing to remember is your mobile carrier limits speeds depending on your plan. Even unlimited plans will say, "X amount Hotspot data, but after that we're borking you down to the speed of litigation". I've had that happen after downloading a massive game at work, then it just stopped 3/4 of the way through because I maxed my Hotspot cap.
@Grumblevolcano
That's not really close. That's nearly 50% higher sales. Really close would be like 5% higher sales.
Point being, NSMBU outsold Mario Maker on Wii U by nearly 50%. Then a port of NSMBU outsold Mario Maker 2 on Switch by 100%.
That's just the data. And the data clearly suggests NSMBU is far more appealing to consumers, which has been demonstrated not once, but twice

@JaxonH That's probably it then. I just wish it would have said how long it would have take before I started because now I don't want to stop and brick my system.

Probably not that rare. It was my first, and kids are being born every day, which means each year 5 million new kids age into their gaming years, just in the United States alone. Not to mention plenty of ppl who were of gaming age but didn't play the others, for whatever reason (wasn't into gaming at the time, didn't own a Wii/DS, or maybe they did but just never bought those particular games) or, maybe they did but it was many yrs prior so NSMBU still feel just as fresh. In any case, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. All I know is I love it.

It matters most to me too. Too much emphasis on power and graphics these days. Not that those are a bad thing. It's just overemphasized. And what's nice is, diminishing returns means handheld is catching up to console, closing the gap further and further with each generation. The difference between 3DS and Wii U was massive. 3DS could barely even run pared down GameCube/Wii games. And yet now, the gap between Switch and PS4/X1 is much smaller. It's running the exact same games, and in HD, just at lower framerates and resolutions.
When Switch 2 drops, the gap between it and PS5/XS is going to be even smaller. To the extent there really won't even be a reason to buy games on any other system, unless it's just out of dire loyalty. If Switch 2 can run AAA multiplats at even 720p 60fps docked, and use DLSS to upscale to 1440p, or 1080p 30fps docked, with DLSS to upscale to 4K, essentially offering 1440p 60 or 2160p 30, while also offering the game at 720p 30fps handheld, and also offering the game at 720p 30fps tabletop... why play games anywhere else? Right now I can understand because some games do take some fairly noticeable downgrades (though even so, it's still worth it to a LOT of ppl), but imagine when the difference shrinks to microscopic levels with the Switch 2...
BTW I also appreciate Sony finally making some innovations. I'm not as sold on the triggers (maybe if the controller had better battery life so it wasn't draining precious battery), but the improvements in haptics are chef's kiss. Just wish the controller wasn't so fat.

I really hope that Switch successor or Switch 2 whatever you call it never use the Joycons again. The joycons are easily one of the worst controller i’ve used.
