@skywake: if they stick to DS I d like a regular and XL model to launch simultaneously.

It can be one screen and still offer DS/3DS backwards compatbility. That's how the 2DS works.

If the 3DS games work in hardware then I think DS will also be supported on the new console.

This! If it's the Next DS.

I'm hope for a return of the signal screen so we can play handheld games on the Home console but what I really want is a handheld that can connect to the TV and use a controller to play like the nvidia shield portable.

Swopped my Saga master system for my friend NES and iv never look back.

@Frostyboy: I kinda want a single screen too. I'd also like scrolling wheel shoulder buttons and click able circle pads.

It's not as simple as that. Since the GBA to allow backwards compatibility they've included two CPUs. One for the current system and a co-processor for backwards compatibility. The 3DS has an ARM11 and ARM9, the DS an ARM9 and ARM7 and the GBA had an ARM7 and Z80. I'd assume that the NX would follow that trend. I'd also expect that the hardware will be powerful enough to properly emulate GBA games unlike the 3DS. But I don't think it'll be able to emulate the DS with much success. I also don't think they're going to spend extra and put an ARM9 chip in there.

And before anyone says it no, the 3DS Ambassador games weren't emulated. They were running in DS compatibility mode. There's a reason those games weren't ever put on the eShop. There's a reason why Nintendo has typically had one generation back BC and a three generations back VC... and it's not because they're trying to be difficult.

It honestly would shock me if Nintendo uses something like a snapdragon 410 as the processing SoC. Also I'm not sure if Zelda U will be a launch titles since the handheld isn't likely to be much more powerful than a vita, so I'm not sure if it'd powerful enough for adequate wii u ports.

@WebHead:
Well when I said Wii U ports I didn't mean titles like Zelda U. Obviously it's not going to be able to run the biggest Wii U games. I meant games like Super Mario Maker, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Yoshi's Woolly World and so on. The 3DS is getting a port of Hyrule Warriors which is apparently going to run like a dog with seriously toned down visuals. I'd expect the NX to be able to handle those sorts of ports better.

@skywake: yeah true nothing like Zelda or XCX. But if it can runs games more like tropical freeze and such that's doable. If we are indeed getting a new handheld this year I can see Nintendo using some wii u ports to fill the launch/first year.

The Smash Bros game at launch is just an HD version of Melee guys, calm down.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Handheld without 3D will be a huge disappointment. The New 3DS has such amazing 3D that I wouldn't ever want to give up on it.

@dumedum: it's good works a lot better then the old system but if we have to Sacrifice 3d for a better graphics and frame rate I will happily do it.

I won't. The thing has to be unique. Not a smartphone or a vita successor. 3D is pretty unique. If they want to ditch that, they better have some "Leia: Help me Obi Wan Kenobi you're my only hope" projector or something.

EA have pulled out of E3 and having their own event the weekend prior. Does this mean that EA have nothing in development for NX (after all they can't announce anything before Nintendo does lol) or the NX will not be announced at E3 this year (maybe before, maybe after). Dunno. But I would have thought Fifa, Madden and NBA et al would have been good to have on the NX.

@GrailUK: Maybe EA will be part of the Nintendo stuff and they will talk about their amazing relationship and how they have tons of support coming to the NX

@DefHalan: Bloomin hope so. After the third part relationship guy bailed...I am not holding my breath...

@GrailUK: If it's a home console then I'm sure Nintendo could just announce any EA games in the Direct. If it's a portable... what EA games would there be?

Yeah I think non-japanese and indie devs don't care about dedicated portables.

WebHead

@WebHead: Hmm..I see nothing but business potential in such an NX set up. Encourage third party devs to produce a home version for the west, and make it super easy to make a portable version and try to crack the Japanese market. Conversely, encourage Japanese devs to make portable games for the east and make it super easy to bring them home in the west. There is opportunity here, and where there is opportunity there is business. It could be shrewd acumen and could improve diversity across all regions. (it won't lol...but it could hahaha!)

@Whitewatermoose: I personally think Nintendo's Directs, Digital Events and pre-E3 tournaments (Smash 2014, NWC 2015) were the first death blow to E3. The concept that E3 doesn't have to be the only time for big news and hence it's meaning is lessened. It also puts disappointments like 2015 E3 Digital Event into perspective, if that presentation was any other time than E3 I think it would've been received much better outside of Amiibo Festival and Federation Force (no proper Metroid since 2007 will hurt people at any point in time).
