Seems like it's a 2021 game to me. Dunno why they haven't said that though.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

2022 is gonna be the 30th anniversary of the Kirby franchise, could Nintendo release the very ambitous Kirby game that acording to Hal Laboratory is gonna be the pinnacle of the franchise?first 3D Kirby game for the franchise on Switch and to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the franchise?

@Dezzy Given Bravely Default II info has been silent since the March Direct Mini, Square Enix may think a delay would go down best alongside new info (and perhaps a new demo).

A new demo would be very welcome and a smart move by Square Enix because the first one left a bad taste in many mouths.

I don’t think Sony/MS will abandon their successful formula of power consoles in favor of a hybrid device. They’ve learned their fanbase just wants a PC approach with a focus on lower price and ease of use. And I think they learned the hard way with Move and Kinect.

That being said, I could totally see Sony trying to copy Switch as an additional device, taking another stab at the handheld market. They’ve always had a weird obsession with trying to drive Nintendo out of whatever they do. The problem is, their fanbase at large, at least now, doesn’t really care about anything other than graphics and AAA marketed titles, and portable gaming goes directly against that mentality. That also goes for their smaller number of more loyal fans (or at least, so they claim- when Switch was announced I watched all of PushSquare mock it as the stupidest console they’d ever seen, laughing as they berated it as the “final nail in the coffin” that would “flop worse than Wii U”; of course, it was a different story for them when Vita was around, so I’m not entirely sure they actually believe what they say, and wouldn’t be surprised to suddenly see them interested in a Sony hybrid despite having no interest in Switch). But even if that’s the case, it wasn’t enough to save Vita and it won’t be enough for a future device either. For that, there needs to be mass appeal.

The new fanbase created by Switch would actually be the target market for such a device more so than traditional Sony/MS fans. I would certainly buy one, and I know a lot of others here would too, just because hybrid devices rock. But it would need more than enthusiasts, and for that it would need games, specifically, exclusives, and I don’t think they’d succeed in that respect, for the same reason Vita failed. Nintendo has all their top talent making games for their hybrid. Sony puts their top talent on their power consoles. Vita received all B rate exclusives from B rate developers (not that it didn’t have some fun games, but there was a clear divide between the exclusive content on 3DS and PS3/PS4 and the content on Vita), and I’m convinced that unless they put a sizable portion of their top talent on making exclusives, any new portable device, even a hybrid one, would ultimately meet the same fate. Especially with consumers being more wary given the last 2 devices that didn’t receive proper support (Vita and PSVR).

As for MS, they’ll just stick with Xcloud, although it’ll never truly take off or gain a significant portable gaming market share.

Did anyone ever think otherwise? Of course it’s gonna be a final send off for Switch. They literally restarted from scratch just last year, and Retro Studios games are typically 5 year games. That means 2024.

Sounds like they’re making good progress, given all the work that goes into a game’s foundation before it ever starts taking shape. This is a nice confirmation that they’re now starting to think about story and cutscenes. That’s fantastic.

Of course, this is also why companies don’t like announcing things before they’re ready, because gamers typically don’t understand how long it takes to make games.

@JaxonH just to add coivd will add additional delays to this as well.

Maybe the team will start wearing Samus style amour to protect themselves from coivd in the office and to put them in the character's state of mind which allow themselves to ask the big questions about her like why can't Metroid crawl.

@JaxonH yes, but thanks for Nintendo imcopetence for not choosing Retro Studios first to develop Metroid Prime 4 is gonna suffer for that, Metroid games released on the final year of the console they are developed usually are the worst selling game of the franchise, look at the situation of Metroid Samus Return, thanks for Nintendo imcopetence for not choosing Retro Studios first to develop the game, it sadly gonna suffer a fate of Metroid Samus Return(,worst selling Switch game and of the franchise in general) and i/we want Metroid Prime 4 to suceed so more games of the franchise could be released on futures Nintendo consoles, we don't want another F-Zero situation do you?

Completely agree. Sony might try again one day but I think it's a process doomed from the start - at least as a true mass market leading device (it would sell millions and occupy its own particular niche). Every other Switch purchaser buys Mario Kart 8 and at least one of Pokemon, Mario Odyssey, Animal Crossing or Smash - there is no real equivalent to those games from third parties and no realistic prospect of an equivalent.

I think Sony's route back into handhelds - if ever they do - is more likely to be via the Occulus Quest route of a self-contained PSVR. "PSVR Quest" could be a very compelling product.

Strangely I kind of think that one day Microsoft might release a handheld. The XBox strategy of variable target specs possibly opens up some opportunity there at some point in the future. But I think it would ultimately be a proof of concept, relatively niche product rather than anything that seriously threatens Nintendo's stranglehold.

@Giancarlothomaz why was it incompetent for Nintendo not getting Retro to make it? The Retro team that made Prime originally are long gone now, it’s why they have gone on a hiring spree as they simply aren’t capable of making this big of a game.

Hindsight is good and all but looking at the choices where Kensuke Tanabe overseas the development of MP4 like he did with MP to an established studio that are equipped to make a big game or having to expand a studio greatly so they are capable of making a game like this first and still have Kensuke Tanabe oversea development the first is the better choice for getting the game out quicker.

I think it's more likely that Sony would go the Xbox route if PS5 wasn't that successful. Merge PS+ and PS Now with PS Now being a proper Game Pass + xCloud competitor rather than the afterthought service it currently is, true exclusives are replaced with console exclusives (i.e. everything releases on PC), mainline Persona comes to Switch, etc.

As for handheld Xbox, don't think so because of xCloud. Seems more likely that Microsoft would put a xCloud app on the Switch and use that to justify Master Chief in Smash to help the Halo franchise return to Halo 3 era popularity.

@DarthNocturnal it has definitely sold less than a million copies otherwise it would have been mention in Ninty’s reports.

@DarthNocturnal Prime 4 was announced before Samus Returns, you had Prime 4 in the Nintendo Spotlight E3 2017 and then Samus Returns was the second Treehouse segment after the spotlight ended.

Last I heard it had done about 600k. Which is abysmal, however, taken in context of every other post-Switch-release 3DS game, I think it FAR surpassed everything else releasing on 3DS in that time frame.

@JaxonH Ultra Sun/Moon was definitely the most successful 3DS game post-Switch launch.
