Topic: The Nintendo Switch Thread

I can totally understand DxM getting shelved in light of all the other great games releasing.

I like how unique it is, and I especially like the idea of flying a mech and shooting using gyro, but truth be told, if I did have to cut a game due to constraints, that would probably be a candidate. Thankfully I don’t have to do that, but I can understand if someone did. Unless mech games are a person’s fave genre to the point it’s non-negotiable, an absolute day one must, it’s probably going to get skipped, even if temporarily, by a great many people.

I can only hope Astral Chain does as well as Fire Emblem (Platinum games deserves to have one of their Nintendo exclusive masterpieces to sell more than a million copies, such a shame about Bayo2 and W101), I can only hope Dragon Quest XI S outsells all other versions (it’s the biggest turn based JRPG ever made, and I’m sick and tired of companies thinking only XYZ gamers are worth selling big games to but not Switch gamers), I can only hope Ni No Kuni does well as it’s a lower profile release and may get lost in the shuffle (which would be a shame since I want future Level-5 support) , and Witcher 3 because it’s one of the biggest western RPGs ever made, and it would be nice for companies to see there’s a market for those on Switch too. Witcher 3 need to at least keep pace with Skyrim and Diablo 3.

If those 4 games do well, I’ll take that as a win.

anyone get Vambrace? I was wondering if it was actually good. It looks interesting to me.

First trailer for Samurai Shodown. Looks pretty good so far, looks much better than SNK Heroines so far. Surprising lack of blood, but first Nintendo Direct trailer for Doom didn't have blood either.

DxM cant wait for this one, no its not a big one and its not perfect but I did like the beta, and All the complains I or we as a community had they tackled it, so I really hope this sells well.
Dragon quest is one im Really hyped about!!!

@JaxonH I hope Spyro and Final Fantasy VIII does well enough for more previously Sony console exclusives to come to Switch. For a while Sony consoles weren't most well known for Sony games but rather 3rd party exclusives.

Alot of them have already either made the jump to Switch, or made the jump to Xbox/PC. Wont happen overnight but, gradually, we're seeing more and more make their way over. Probably why they're buying studios. They see the writing on the wall. The era of 3rd party exclusives is slowly dying. There will always be some, theyll never completely go away, but their number is definitely shrinking.

Just to throw it out there, there's currently a Ubisoft sale running on the eShop, but this time some DLC is also discounted, which doesn't always happen. Sale DLC includes the Mario + Rabbids Season Pass and standalone DK DLC, South Park:TFBW Season Pass, Starlink Collection Packs 1 and 2 (but sadly not the extra Star Fox DLC, which is the only DLC I don't have yet), and the Trials Rising Expansion Pack.

@JaxonH A lot of progress has been made but there's still some key franchises out there like Kingdom Hearts and Persona.

After 2 decades of status quo, we have seen severe disruption to the old model over the last 2 years. Things are changing at a rapid pace.

@JaxonH I have all 4 preordered at least (well 5 with Daemon, and 6 with Spyro... this next month is expensive) Astral Chain has a huge leg up on Bayonetta due to not being M rated, and on W101 due to both the console and the lack of negative press surrounding it, so I would be shocked if it doesn't move a million units. I wish the hype was higher, but with any luck word of mouth could lead to it seeing sales drop off rather slowly.

@Galarian_Lassie The blood is optional in the ps4 version and there is a LOT of it, so I'm betting they turned the setting off.

Should have a copy of Collection of Mana in my hands after work tomorrow.

Very excited, I've never played a game in the series.

I'm sad I've not completed fire emblem and astral chain is being delivered tomorrow!

@Tangerine I haven't even completed Ys VIII, DQB2, or FE. Imagine how I feel!

Never played an Atlier game. Anyone know what it's like? The generic anime look is off-putting, but a quick trailer doesn't really convey what it's like once you get into it. Seems sterile/generic from the video.

@EvilLucario Well, there's a reason serious Mech games have all but vanished as a genre. Back in the Activision FASA era they were going full speed but not selling great. Microprose did great but forgotten things with MW, Starsiege was one-and-done, MS tried to dumb it down "for the masses" and it backfired, and then FASA was no more. That kind of complex/simulator even, these days "simulator-lite" doesn't click with your typical critic or typical player (especially not outside the PC realm.) Such is the fate of any mech sim.

@NEStalgia You're not alone. I still haven't even started Fire Emblem, Ys VIII, Onimushi, Valkyria Chronicles 4 or Crash 2 & 3 out of the trilogy ahead of the incoming deluge. Nor have I really gotten into SMM2 multiplayer much, or even gotten Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Dark Souls or Oninaka. Plus I'm still closing in on finishing Doom and Yoshi's and Night In the Woods...

I swear if anyone complains about the 'drought' next late winter/early spring.

@link3710 People will, remember early 2018. Fall/holiday 2017 had a crazy lineup and people were desperately begging for a Direct in January while Nintendo trolled everyone with flaming Chibi-Robo.

@link3710 Yep, my backlog is bigger than just the all stars I mentioned. Shining Resonance, FFXII....

But they'll complain. You know they'll complain of the drought. "Switch is over, it peaked in 2019 but they've already abandoned it because they knew PS5 was coming out. Nintendo needs a new powerful console to compete with PS5 or they're dooooooooooomeedddd!"

@Grumblevolcano Oh I know, believe me I know. Though even 2017 pales compared to this year in terms of quantity, if not quality. Sure 2017 had Odyssey, Skyrim, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Fire Emblem Warriors 2, and a few more, but I'm pretty sure that the 30 day period starting today alone has more quality games releasing in it than 2017 did from August to December.

That still won't be enough of course.
