@Ralizah Yeah, but now it's on Switch, so it's good. Cherish those third party releases you shall!
Yeh, exactly. Are you sure it's not a love letter to something from the 8/16 bit era? Cos most Switch releases are you know. That's why they're all 9/10. I mean, who doesn't love a love letter? You've kinda got to love them by definition, right?
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
If anyone wants to play Edith Finch for free and with better graphics, do the following:
Find an empty house to wander around.
Talk incessantly to yourself about what you imagine the family is like as you do so.
When you happen across key objects in the environment, imagine a creative way that this person might have died. Dollars to donuts the narrative you come up with has a more satisfying arc than the equivalent vignette in WRoEF.
The game doesn't really have a broader story to tell, or interesting themes to explore, so congratulations, you likely experienced a better version of what this game has to offer.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
Psalms 22:16 (1,000 yrs before Christ)
They pierced My hands and feet
Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)
He was pierced for our transgressions
Zachariah 12:10 (500 yrs before Christ)
They will look on Me whom they pierced

Game was praised to high heaven before it ever released on Switch though, which kind of throws a wrench into peddling that "people only say it's good because it's on Switch" narrative, which was heavily implied by you both.
If you actually played it and didn't like it, that's one thing, and I'd be interested to hear your opinions, but either way a lot of other people did. I dont have any opinions on it yet as I haven't played it yet, but when it was on PS4 it was touted as a phenomenal experience, before a Switch version was ever announced.
So I dont think its "Switch" that's suddenly making it a great game. PS4 players already said it was great. But being on Switch definitely makes great games even more appealing.
Little silly for a game to be praised with relative consensus on PS4 then downplay the same game as bad and only considered good because of Switch, and act like the only people who are interested are doing so out of desperation. That's insulting to the integrity of people's tastes, which you have no rightful place to condescendingly judge.
Not to mention, with all the games releasing on Switch I dont think anyone is "taking what they can get". If anything, people are having to turn down buying games because they can't keep up. I mean, I dont care if you like the game or not. But you both seem a little sour, like you got triggered or something.

@JaxonH Ignore me. I'm the resident grouch when it comes to walking sims and art games. I'm passionate about the hobby, and passion tends to lend itself to extremes of feeling.
I'm sure plenty of people will enjoy this... experience when they try it.
@Ralizah
It's not actually a genre I'm too familiar with. I liked Life Is Strange though. This one got lots of good reviews across the board on other platforms though, so I bought it. Figure it'll be good for next time I take my car to get serviced. Not big on the genre but, I dont mind one or two on the Switch to spice things up, add a little variety for when I'm in the mood.

@JaxonH Life is Strange doesn't belong in the same discussion as stuff like Gone Home, Edith Finch, Dear Esther, etc., imo. From what little I've played of it, I'd liken it more to recent adventure games like Telltale was putting out.
Either way, as you point out, Edith Finch was generally well-received (what critics think doesn't really matter to me, as they're generally narrow-minded about anything that's not an indie art game or a AAA title, but the audience score tends to be in the same very positive range), so, more likely than not, you'll probably enjoy it. Be sure to post your impressions when you do. It's always good to have an enthusiastic voice to counterbalance the local sourpuss.
@BruceCM It's not the worst thing ever. I just get irritated when something I consider to be mediocre gets praised to high heaven. And, hey, at least it's better than Abzu!
After Gone Home somehow became worthy of all its praise, I realized that I definitely am just not the kind of person for those games/"art" experiences. Same thing with Flower and Everyone's Gone to the Rapture. Hope one changes my mind one day lol

How about Journey or Gris? They're also considered more "art" than "game".
Switch Physical Collection - 1,536 games (as of December 14th, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
They darn well should be giving it away. Charging money for that borefest is a morally dubious affair to begin with.
Stop being so salty about games - you'll trigger Jaxon again
Fwiw, I have no opinion on Edith Finch yet as I know nothing of it other than a few hyperbolic headlines I've seen and Ralizah's opinion of it. My post about love letters was just generic banter on the theme of so-called over-inflated scores for indie ports on Switch.
I hope Edith is great and if the price ever comes down to my range for that genre I'll happily add it to the backlog if I see enough positive word of mouth.

I was never triggered by Ralizah's rant. It was your comment I calmly put on display for what it was, not his. And not for anything to do with liking the game or not.
You guys insulted anyone who might be interested as only being interested because they have no better choice, and implied the game was only considered "good" because it was on Switch.
Which was a really immature thing to say (and you guys are supposed to set the example). You can deflect, but it wasn't I who made condescending remarks and insulted the taste of others. That was all you and Octane. Note that I didn't take issue with Ralizah's rant, because bad opinions aren't something I take issue with.
Fanboyish salt I'll call out all day though (and that's how it came off, like a salty low blow jab). Feel free to criticize the game to your heart's content, just... please dont make a mockery of those interested, or of Switch owners in general. Those kinds of comments can stay in the PushSquare and NintendoLife comment sections. I dont mean to come across harsh. I'm not mad or anything. But it was inappropriate for sure.
