I'm still thinking February reveal with maybe reveal date announced at The Game Awards as it sure seems like September isn't happening.
Nintendo will let Color Splash and a new wave of Nintendo Selects be the Wii U's holiday meanwhile there's enough 3DS stuff to be considered a normal holiday season. Super Mario Run and Pokemon Sun/Moon will be the centre of Nintendo's holiday plans.
September wasn't really ever on the cards since they announced a 3DS direct. I think at that point it was fairly obvious that they wanted to give one last push for the 3DS/were not ready to talk about the NX. If anything, Nintendo were gracious enough to have the 3DS direct on the 1st September to attenutate any frustration of a waiting throughout September for something about the NX.
That direct for me pretty much confirmed not to hope for anything until October. MAYBE an outside chance of the last week of September, but mostly October.
@dtjive I don't think October will happen. If they're not announcing in September (which seems very likely now with September nearing the end) then they won't do the first 2 weeks of October because Color Splash and then it's too late for a reveal this year.
Well, they did say they would talk about NX in 2016, haven't they? So I expect to hear something this civil year.
Or should I just stack it up the tons of Nintendo's broken promisses and delays?
This would not have been so bad if Wii U was still decently supported this year. Alas, I have nothing from Nintendo to look forward but to contemplate the void. And Nature abhors the void.
@WebHead What have they said exactly about it this year? Pretty much nothing. The only thing I recall was Nintendo saying they didn't want to talk about it at E3. Guess talking about not wanting to talk about it, makes their "talk about it" promise fulfilled?

1. Color Splash releases 7th October. My feeling is that they will push hard for preorders, but once it's released that'll be Nintendo done with both that game and the console. So that would still leave over 3 weeks of October to reveal the NX.
2. Why would anytime later than mid October = too late for a reveal?
@Samurai_Goroh The info back in April counts, even though the release month may no longer be accurate.
@dtjive I think they'd give a week of Color Splash sales. As for the following week (beginning 17th October) being too late, well it'll get buried by Sony stuff like PSVR releasing on the 18th so only Nintendo fans would care about the NX reveal which is not Nintendo's target audience.
Technically I suppose nothing is "too late". But whether it's smart to only leave yourself 5 months to explain and launch your console is definitely debatable. My hat is still in the delay to winter 2017 ring.
Not to be a negative ninny but if we don't hear something by the end of the week of the financial results release on october 27th I am going to assume that NX is gonna be delayed :/
@WebHead And not to add to the negativity but if the release is delayed, chances are when they do release it by Winter 2017, I would have spent my budget already on something from the competition. Voids needs filling and all, the Wii U is comatose since 2015.
I don't see PSVR getting in the way of the NX at all. Hell, that bloody thing is even announced and no-one seems to be talking or caring about it!
VR seems very niche at the moment. Yeah, I'm sure there will be some coverage of it at some point over that period, and Sony will try to market it but none of that will stop the NX from getting plenty of coverage too. Especially if it is a hybrid tablet-like device.
And look let's face it- there's always gonna be something somewhere that might take some of the spotlight off the NX. Google has their event early October, then VR, then apparently it'll all be about Pokemon and Super Mario Run. And then it's the holidays. And so on.
I don't think even Nintendo are that stupid to let this go on into the new year. I 100% believe the announcement will come before the end of October. Most likely the week after Color Splash.
