Also, is anyone else thinking that if the final product is like that then there will be a middle, battery middle piece for the controller. I know we've had mock ups before but they've had the middle piece the same length as the ends. Instead I'm expecting the middle bit to be narrow so the controller ends extend down like grip handles like on a normal style controller like the pro/ps4/xbox has
@shaneoh You're disregarding half of the sentence, of course ambiguity might appear when you remove part of the context.
That's not a partitive "or". That's the kind of "or" you use in statements such as "I'm redefining what it means to be a bookworm or a jock". It doesn't mean you're either one or the other, it means that the actant (single identity in this case) is affecting both elements of the coordinate element on equal measure.
Seriously, there's no misinterpreting that sentence. I've tried it in every way possible. The Japanese original would probably remove any possible doubt, but we work with what we have.
I'm disregarding nothing, with NDA's hanging over people's necks, he could be easily including both to give no weight to any side of the argument. It's a written sentence on what someone has said, it conveys no tone or rhythm in speech, if I were to speak it with the intent of being ambiguous, a minor raise in my voice, or the briefest of pauses, would change "a home console device or a hand-held device" into "a home console device*,* or a hand-held device." That small comma creates a world of difference. Without seeing the interview spoken for ourselves we have no real indication of how that sentence is meant to be interpreted, it could very well be exactly as written, or not. So we know nothing new.
The 2 problems I see with detachable controllers like this is...
1. If you use it mainly as a handheld surely there's a chance of weakening their grip on the tablet. I can already imagine them being wobbly on the sides.
2. How do you hold them comfortably? The analogue stick is too close to the buttons
@AlternateButtons I think that game-specific consoles are more of thing; Like the Zelda Wii U; Although that one hardly changed its appearance. There's that ugly Halo Xbox One. And there's a couple more for the Xbox One and PS4. PS4 comes in many colours actually, you can swap the face plates for different colours, just like the 3DS. That's a cheap alternative without risking too much sales. I know Microsoft also has a program where you can design and buy your own controller by mixing some colours around. Maybe that's an idea too for Nintendo to look into.

So, so glad you've given me your blessing to understand that there are many subtleties to language, which can greatly affect meaning and intent, as well as the difficulties involved in interpreting those subtleties. Of course it would be remiss of me not to extend my blessings for you to take any quote you read as gospel. Go for it buddy.
@dtjive I think I've seen mock-ups just like what you describe, but I don't believe such a thing would make it to the final product. Nintendo portables have always been rather squarish.
Then again, they all used to have one screen.
I've made an illustration of a previous existing mock up to help explain what I mean (also I believe this was the mock up that was suggested to be closest to the final thing?)
Essentially I envisage that the controller ends to be the same as many other mock ups, but other mock ups (including the original of this one) includes a middle piece that is the same length as the controller ends giving a weird square look to the controller. Instead i'm expecting for it to be shorter so the controller when detached from the tablet has a more pro controller feel/look. The illustration is still a crude one- but I'm not great with editing so did my best with paint. I'd still expect the middle piece to be a bit shorter than I've done it, and wider. I'd say more like if you turned that current middle piece on its side so there's more distance between the two controller ends if that makes sense?
Anyway, I haven't seen any mock-ups that do it like this but this is what I am expecting. The controller ends make the NX look like a 3DS when attached, but when detached the clip onto a small rectangular middle piece that gives it a more pro controller feel
@MarcelRguez
Yeah, we all have some degree of trouble admitting that people know more about something than we do. I know there are people out there smarter than me, more knowledgeable. Quite a lot actually. But I know when to defer to them because my knowledge is woefully insufficient, I do it too often for my liking. However I also know people bend words, intentionally or not, so that what is being heard, isn't what was being said. Do not presume to know about me.
Why don't we just acknowledge that some people see this quote as confirmation, others don't? This debate about interpreting the quote, while mildly interesting, is dominating the thread and may be off-putting to others.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Speaking of issues, I've just stumbled upon this thread by @ThePirateCaptain, and I thought it would be worthty of cross-reference here. More evidence supporting a mid-October reveal at the latest.
That one slipped through by the looks of it. I've changed the thread title for this thread to better direct people considering starting a new thread about pretty much the same topic. Hope that's OK with everyone.
It's an interesting spot by @ThePirateCaptain. My thoughts are, if the magazine knew when the NX was going to be revealed it would be daft to not shout about it on the front pages. Unless it's part of a NDA...
All this talk about a now October reveal just further make me skeptical of those people that kept claiming September.
Honestly it was never going to be a September reveal. Too much noise and the 3DS Direct killed those chances. October and November are the most likely. December is highly unlikely due to the holiday season

I would have like more participants, next time I hope more people will join in.
On topic, has anyone heard more about the retailer meetup other than "it's probably going to take place soon."? Like something of note?
Perhaps knowing the date in comparison to the wii U public reveal / retailer announcement and how much time was between them, we can do a few coin tosses on new dates we can bet on
Of course, reveal date is going to be 26th february.
There's some noise for an October reveal? Well I'll bet there will be noise for a November reveal, December reveal, Januar....AHA I told you it would revealed in X month

You are all wrong! The NX reveal isn't being revealed in any known month. Instead Nintendo is creating a whole new 13th month so they can have the limelight all to themselves!!
