@skywake They did state explicitly that they were targeting a March release due to the software not being ready, though. That doesn't mean there weren't production issues, but we've been told it's one of the reasons. I don't there's reason to doubt that, especially when they told investors the very same thing.

I don't doubt that. Having more time to get the software ready is surely a good thing. It means that the launch is going to be more solid than it otherwise would have been. But I don't think they're going to be sitting on piles of finished hardware waiting just for one or two games. More likely the date is being set where it is for multiple reasons.

@dtjive You have to ask yourself, do you really think that Nintendo would sacrifice a November launch to ensure all games were ready?
Yes, and you're forgetting third party titles.

1. If the NX is available to launch with Zelda and a handful of other first-party titles (that may vary in popularity), I think they would accept that. Nintendo have never demonstrated a history of ensuring their launch line-ups are the best they possibly can be. I believe that the software issue would only be true if Zelda wasn't ready for November. Given that: (a) they believed it was in December '15, (b) showed a lot of it off at E3 where it looked pretty finished; (c) admitted several months ago that it is in the final (localisation) stages then it seems pretty unlikely this is the case imo.

2. Since when have Nintendo cared about third parties?

I don't think (or hope) the NX will be mainly ports, I just think that's the nature of rumours and leaks. Ports and remasters are easy targets, because those games already exist, which makes it certainly plausible.

True, ports and sequels are much easier to predict. You could have predicted that the 3DS was getting remasters of N64 games or that it would have another New SMB and Mario Kart. Or that the Wii U got a version of Wii Sports, Pikmin and Smash Bros. But Kid Icarus? Splatoon? Mario Maker?.... not so much!

@MarcelRguez Think of it like Mario Kart and Smash. Those are easy to predict too, because it's pretty much guaranteed that they'll come to the NX. A sequel of Splatoon? Most definitely too. Diddy Kong Racing 2 has been rumoured for such a long time (despite that it may not even exist), but if you mention that game.. ''Well, DKR2 has been rumoured before, so it could be possible..'' It's another game that wouldn't sound too unbelievable, because we've heard ''rumours'' about it before. If I was making up a fake rumour? I'd include some ports, some sequels, a ''new Mario game'', some confirmed games and some odd ones like Diddy Kong Racing 2 or Beyond Good & Evil 2. There. Solid rumour; all the games are rumoured about before, so that gives my rumours certainly more credibility in the eyes of some people.

@dtjive TBH, the reason why we see a lot or rumours talking about ports is because those are easy to make up. If you're going to create a rumour, just predict a Wii U port, because ''that makes sense, doesn't it?''

Disagree. What makes rumouring a Wii U port anymore likely than rumouring a brand new 3D Mario or any other Mario title for that matter? If anything, they make more sense because you want to pile your new system with new games using your main IPs, and given Nintendo loves to bleed Mario dry it would just "make sense".

In any case, we've just seen Mario Maker ported to the 3DS which imo adds veracity to the claims of a Mario Maker NX and thus a couple of Wii U ports in the NX launch line up. Again, in general, the feel I'm getting is that a sufficient number of games are ready and there was some other reason for the delay. I'm not necessarily saying that it was to increase the hardware spec of the NX, but it makes more sense than the official word of Nintendo which doesn't imo fit with what we know about existing confirmed games or rumoured titles.

@dtjive Read post no.3,806. Just adding some ports to your rumour is just a safe prediction. Don't mean to say that they make more sense than a new Mario or a new Smash Bros.

@FragRed I could see Ubisoft having an exclusive for Nintendo but there is no way beyond good and evil 2 will be an exclusive unless Nintendo pays for it. I find that unlikely.

Hopefully squares third party support extends beyond Japanese exclusive eshop titles.

They can reveal it and we still think it doesn't look "good," but it could go on to sell like crazy. I wasn't a Wii guy, and if I watched the reveal of the Wii and had to predict how well it would do, I would've said it would tank. But the total opposite happened. So you never know.

I'm not sure about that for myself, I have a fairly decent track record for Nintendo stuff. I had little to no interest in the GameCube and I was pretty hyped about the idea of the DS and Wii. With the 3DS I thought it looked like decent hardware but I wasn't that sold on it until software started to come out. And the Wii U? I always liked the hardware, I was immediately sold on the GamePad concept. But before launch I was incredibly sceptical about the amount of software for it.

Of course as a Nintendo fan I'll buy into the hardware regardless. Put Zelda on it and I'll get it whether it's popular or not. Promise me higher end visuals for my favourite Nintendo IP and I'm there. But even so, the more hyped I've been about a platform? Generally the better it has gone for Nintendo. Very small sample size but. So far I'm curious about the NX concept....

Well, let's hope you continue to be right.

Looks like Nintendo's basically confirmed Spla2n, the winning team of a big Splatoon tournament gets the NX.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nah. What are the chances the NX will sport circle pads AND have buttons like the N3DS? That leak's most likely fake.

God first.

SLIGEACH_EIRE

It doesn't but Spla2n is a nailed on certainty for NX. We all know that surely.

SLIGEACH_EIRE

@Grumblevolcano Maybe because it's just a prize? I don't see how awarding an NX at a Splatoon tournament automatically means a Spla2n is confirmed for NX.
Well, that's not to say the game isn't already in development for NX (or maybe it isn't). If it is, then it's not because of a tournament, nor will a tournament confirm it's existence.

God first.

Splatoon 2 will be a thing regardless of this tournament. It was a big success, and they're not going to leave it at that.

Probably fake but still some sites are questioning whether this is the leaked final NX design.

I hope it's not.

1. That's a very odd shape to hold. My hands are not that shape
2. What on earth is the point of the second and third pictures?
3. Obvious copy/paste from the New 3DS. They even used the c-stick as buttons.....
